In the Army National Guard at Camp Edwards I saw a squadron of F16's take off with full afterburners from about 300 yards away all while a general came and gave us a speech. It was soooo loud it was over whelming. You could barely breath. It was the most awesome thing I've ever experienced. It was nasty
@TheFr3sh1 Simple and easy as pie: Have you noticed those little "rockets" mounted onto the wing tips? They are smoke generators burning a low viscosity oil upon activation to create a huge amount of dense smoke. Such devices are used to do skywriting or also skytyping!
I LOVE the f-16, I know its a multirole aircraft these days to keep it in service but its clearly a high tech thoroughbred jet fighter based around the concept of the mig-21 "fishbed", one look says it all, a fixed wing splitting the high speed gains of a delta and the low speed and extra maneuverability of a wider wing without taking the f-14 swing wing route, single engine is truly the mark of a pure breed fighter, slim, graceful, small, manoeuvrable, only bomb carrying need two engines
@PangeaSpreads Haha that's true, but I find the Tomcat's swing-wing design a beauty? I mean, you just say "going Mach 1" to your wingman and you rock those wings all the way to the back :D And those twin 'gines make a RACKET, but I'm sure we all love it. The Falcon/Viper is a pretty bird tough, I just prefer the Tomcat (TOP GUN, anyone? :D )
@PangeaSpreads The F-16 was designed from the start as a multi-role aircraft. It was a cheap piece of crap to throw at the Soviets. The concept is that heavier F-15's use more fuel and need another engine to have more power during dogfights; you can drop the same bomb with a single engine using less fuel. Thus we have the F-16, a fly-by-wire jet with 1 engine, meaning if you lose the engine, you can't manipulate the flight controls and thus crash. "High tech."
@JLAMontoya If you consider 38.46 million us dollars a cheap piece of crap, ask the Israelis, thats what they paid back in 2001 and the Israeli airforce is of the best in the world and they bought 52, like I say small nimble and cheaper than the bigger, thirstier, more maintenance required twin engine fighters. The theory is- if you get two f-16 over one twin engine f-15, if either of the f-15 engines has issue your fucked but if one f-16 engine fails, u still have another f-16
@JLAMontoya..and to that end, if in war time, parts, fuel and weapons become scarce due to losses and factory attacks etc, a light single engine multirole will be much more appealing and easier to keep airborne and "chuck" together with available parts than a big twin engine bird which by design requires twice the replacement parts for twice the amount of engines, 30 f-16's need 30 engine service parts but 30 f-18 need 60!! amount of engine parts and that much more service time
@PangeaSpreads It's 38 million for the newest F-16's, yes. In comparison with most other fighter jets, that's cheap. At the time of it's creation, the F-16 was in the 20 mil+. The Israeli's bought 52 because they need 52 cheap jets. They can't afford F-35's or 22's. We don't upgrade our 16's because they're going to be replaced entirely by 35's (maybe in 20 years at this rate). The F-15 can fly with 1 engine just fine. You'd rather have a 15 engine fail, since a 16 failure means a crash.
@PangeaSpreads I'd also like to point out that a 15 pilot can manipulate his flight controls manually; a fly-by-wire 16 can't. If the F-15 loses both engines, he may be able to glide to relative safety. When a 16 engine fails, it's going down. You get 3 seconds from the hydraulic pressure accumulators to move your flight controls (to steer away from houses and shit); after that, it's rigor mortis all the way into the ground. That's one reason why, as an F-16 mechanic, I say it's a piece of crap.
@JLAMontoya I'm surprised by your distaste for the f-16, and fly-by makes pilot training so much quicker and cheaper vs a non-fly-by, so over-all and combined with the fact a f-16 is not dramatically out classed by an f-15, initial buying costs, running costs, fuel, training, maintenance times, losses vs replacement etc+ you can roughly get three f-16 for one f-15, so why not get NINE easy maintain capable f-16's instead of just three thirsty double the needed parts and costly f-15s?
@PangeaSpreads yea but you double redundent and and all that true enough fly by wire cool but is the strike eagle flyby wire too they landed onewith one somw time ago yea you fly goes shit stright dumbersterdivein
@Bandicoot803 you are right cameras never lie however this was not done with a camera this is an example of composite animation just like these videos the look very realistic and dynamic they are not its just an animation. here are some more well known examples of composite animation :
@SupremeLevelEnt This is not fake dude, fighter jets have something called afterburners which is like a massive boost and consumes a lot more fuel. It is something pilots really only use on a high-g dogfight and taking off.
@7722993 Thats WAAAAAAYYYYY too slow for the wings to burn off! A space shuttle can do it with ease, it is partially covered in a reinforced carbon-carbon shield. These orbiters travel at a speed of 17'400 mph when re-entering the earth's atmosphere at an angle of 40° causing the wings to literally glow red-hot!
@7722993 what your seeing coming off the wings would be the smoke systems. they got engaged on take off which means that it may look like it burnt but never even generated enough friction.
At the beginning of the video- That P-51 in the foreground is the one that crashed at Duxford after a midair with a Skyraider. The pilot bailed out and survived.
Dont get me wrong, the modern planes are beautiful (Raptor, Typhoon etc) but the two I'd REALLY want to own.... are the F15 and F16!! Fuuuuuuuuuuu that was the golden age of fighters for sure!! Oh!!! And a Mig 15 Foxbat so that I can tear the bra off any girl who cares to get into the co-pilots seat with that mad speed ;)
Obviously the morons that are calling this fake have never seen, with their own eyes, what a F-16, or most any of the modern fighter-aircraft are capable of. Even knowing what they are capable of, and seeing these craft in flight, it is still amazing and 'almost' unbelievable what they are capable of. What the REAL limit to what these planes can do is not do to the limits of the plane... but to the physical limitations of the human body of the pilot.
@Pringles352 Regardless, the F-16 was one of those planes that changed everything. Before, DoD thought that the way to go was bigger, heavier planes (like the Tomcat and Eagle). The Falcon showed that a lightweight fighter was just as capable of performing the same actions of a heavier aircraft. The Falcon also was the first fighter to utilize Fly-By-Wire (digital control of elevators, flaps, etc.) and it showed that it was actually better than analog controls.
@theozfox22 i must admit i dont know much about the american development of their planes. you clearly have a better knowledge of this area.. :) im more into british development
@Pringles352 Preferences are preferences. Still, the F-16 did influence the development of many aircraft, American and European alike. (Eurofighter Typhoon, for example)
I'ts genuine. That is why the f-16 is still considered to hold it's own against any other fighter today in the right hands. Impressive considering it was designed in the 70's, and produced in the 80's. I must say, that is a damn good pilot! He took it in and out of a high speed stall like it was child's play.
Afterburner, or wing-tip rockets? I've seen Hercules (C130) cargo planes take off with rocket assist. I couldn't believe how fast that big old horse lifted off.
@Toddinfantry Oh, I see. I should have known there's not enough structural strength on the wing tips. The cargo plane I watched take off had rockets mounted right on the fuselage, behind the wings. It was quite a show, the plane taxied about 300 feet, ignited those rockets, and lifted off immediately. They use them for emergencies when they have to take off from a tiny airstrip.
I don't know which is the most beatiful painting scheme. This one or the new one, whole in orange. I need to find this decal sheet in 1/72 scale. Thanks for the great video!
Wow! I love the P-51 Mustang in the shot at the start. Could you imagine that big bad F-16 Falcon rising to meet any WWII foe?! I bet that would have been something! :D Lovely!
@tonyt73 Can't remember the name of the movie, it might be Final Countdown, where a modern aircraft carrier ends up near Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack. Been along time since I saw it.
@tonyt73 I just saw something special: When you pause the video at 0:05 you can see the handwriting saying "Big Beautiful Doll" on the right side of theP-51 Mustang's engine.
Gees, I uploaded the the video three years ago and never noticed it!
@Bandicoot803 :-/ Unfortunately... "Big Beatifull Doll" was crashed and completely destroyed (10 july 2011) after mid air collision with Douglas AD-4NA Skyrider on "Flying Legends" Air Show - Duxford Imperial War Museum. Pillot survive - after jump on parachute. Skyrider lose part of the wing but luckily landed. Check thi on youtube. Sorry for my bad English.
Nice Video!!!

I don't think it was on afterburner on takeoff. If it was, there would have been a massive flame at the back.

Nice video. I like the sound of fighterjets. (volume > up) Favorited.

Afterburner, or wing-tip rockets? I've seen Hercules (C130) cargo planes take off with rocket assist. I couldn't believe how fast that big old horse lifted off.
cypresscoach 8 months ago
@cypresscoach Wingtips have smoke makers for show. Set on wingtips so when aircraft does rolls in creates nice corkscrew pattern.
Toddinfantry 8 months ago

Toddinfantry 8 months ago
