Yeah I noticed some hair care products that are used for moisture made my hair worse. Coarse and dry. A lot of products sold are geared for White because their hair gets very oily. They use a lot of stuff that eliminates the extra natural oils in their hair. Our hair which can be naturally dry, can't use it. Our hair begs for moisture. 7, water is good. Opens the cuticles for washing but then need something Ph balanced to close them back up to retain the moisture. Makes sense.
18 dollars & it only goes up to 7:-( girl where are you shopping its only £1 - £8 on Ebay :-D keep up the journey sista I am too transitioning I'm 6 months post.
No wonder! My hair hated shea moisture Black sopa balance. It was really stick and hard to comb my hair out. I never do it again. I go to giveaway anyone..
actually the ph of hair products has to be around 4 to 7 so what you said about only 4.5 and 5.5 is incorrect if you don't believe me, please watch kimmaytube ph series
@christyblow If you watch the end of the video you would have noted that I reference kimmaytube - in the future Before commenting you need to watch the entire video.
@bossgal3 No offense but kimmaytube only knows what works for her hair and just passes on the information to others to get a better feel about what people could use to see what's better for their hair. Not everyone's hair is the same, especially because it also varies by age as well. Children need more acidic hair products because their body chemistry is going into overdrive in terms of ph balances, hence the reason why not all products will do your hair good over a lengthy amount of time.
WOW!!! Very interesting. "SHOCKED" about a few of these items! I've never seen a p h balance strip test for hair product..thanks for sharing. I'll have to purchase me a roll.
WOW! im not suprised by the Shea Moisture Mist , or the Jane Carter Solution . My hair seemed to be so dry after using them. So much for organic. thank you for taking the time out and informing the rest of us . : )
i'm going to start testing my products for ph too...i've been natural 6 months and i'm still battling with dry, frizzy hair...i'm not giving up no way, it's all part of the process i've becoming truly acquainted with my hair..and it's actually kind of fun learning and testing different things out on my hair. I think ph is the jackpot because of what i experienced tonight with my hair :)
thanks so much for this, i recently got shea butter products except that one, i hope the others are ok. thanks so much but like you i need to start checking. ONE
wow I.m suprised the products that they say is all natural are not ph balanced. That's why I thimk twice befor buying any of them. I'm really chocked.
Very nice. One recommendation: try to get strips with a pH chart from 0-14 so you know exactly what the pH is. I had tested the aphogee keratin and green tea rec, and it has the pH of 3 and so does the aphogee 2 step protein treatment. The pro vitamin leave-in has a pH of 5. But I'm not sure if a pH of 3 is acceptable. I'm still trying to find that out. When I used these products I had no issue. Lower than 3 will fry the hair... Hope this helps:)
Its amazing what crap they sell, saying its PH BALANCED.when i got my Ph papers i tested everything and we have to ,because our hair is fragile and needs the correct amounts
I think if you add some Aloe Juice to the last three it may bring the PH down. Try it and get back to me I dont have the strips but I have some Chemistry knowledge.
Hey Mocha!!! Great video..I'm going to test several of my products this weekend. Good Information!!! LULAS. I'll hit you up this weekend. Been busy, busy, busy...will update yah!!!
@KinkyNappyHappy Girl do a video when you test and post a response to this video.......I cant wait to see the results! If you around tonight, lets chat......;-)
@LaReinaMcMeanie I never did either, but after further reading and researching it make sense. It also help you from becoming a product junkie.....lol ;-)
Wow! Now I have to take the Shea Moisture out of my collection too! And I brought the entire collection. I am so glad you did this review, great tester! I am going to go get me one too!. Thanks
@myskyy08 Hi, thanks for your comment....Perhaps you can dilute it with Aloe or vegetable glycerin to bring it down...Just suggestion....I am not a scientist....LOL
I love this video so much I am doing an experiment of my own. Also the actual hair does not have a pH. The pH comes from the natural sebum from the scalp which is 5. I hate to interject again but dont get rid of them to quick. 7 is neutral. Water has a ph of 7 the actual scale goes up to 14 so your perm could have been way more and probably definately was way more. Your strips are just limited
@emoja30 Hi, thanks for further clarity. I am not a scientist, nor do I plan to study pH balance on a regular. ;-) I think at this point in my Journey I can not afford to change the structure of my hair, given that products with high pH will do that. I advise everyone here to conduct their own research and decide what works for their hair. My hair goal is to seal in moisture and close the cuticles, in which pH balance products will do that. I really appreciate your comment. ;-)
this is interesting.. im going to pick up the strips tomorrow to test out all of my products lol

you don't have to throw out your products that are not ph balanced, just balance them yourself by adding something acidic.

Other than that where did you get your strips I wanna buy some. And it's cool that you checked the Aphogee b/c I use that on my hair. :)

Do your strips go up to 14? Some strips go up to 7. I'm sure your relaxer was much higher than 7.

i thought the better match for natural hair is between 4.5-6.
water has a pH of 7.
trudoll 11 months ago
@trudoll Pure (Processed) water is pH 7. Acidic water (natural rain water) has a pH 5.5 balance.
