1971 was the year Labatts' (and all the others) customer base got an increase when the legal drinking age in Canada was lowered to 18 from 21. This ad was probably produced when the minimum drinking age was still 21, and going by that, it would make the youngest of them only three or so years away from their Canada Pension/Social Security.
Very good....I love the theme of the era....can somebody out there in internet land find me the Labbatt's pilsner commercial from the 50's with Harpo Marx? Please...thank you....
@meekrob And you want to know what?.......at approx 23:45 central time on May the 18th.....I'm presently drunk on Labatt's blue.....I'm starting to prefer it over Bud....because Bud give me Bud butt.....and Blue has no preservatives....which prevents bud butt....diahreah.....yaay!
Life seemed so much more fun in those days. Today, people are so busy that they carry their cell phones, Blackberries and laptops (perhaps with portable printers) everywhere - even to a get-together with friends. Back they, people let their 9-to-5s be 9-to-5s, not 24/7s.
I absolutely love the superimposed air balloon at 0:27!

This aireal shot was filmed in Toronto heading north toward Canada's Wonderland. The TO skyline has changed a lot in 40 years.

Great seeing old commercials. The funny thing is that those actors and actresses are senior citizens now.
