Dude what makes Russian tanks overall the best in the world is not just the thickness of their armor. T-90 commonly equiped with 850 HP diesel engine, however there are 1200HP turbine versions as well and they've been dubbed "flying tanks" - so fast and agile that leopard and rest could only dream of - google it please before you state facts. Heavier doesnt mean neccessarily better - cuts dosn agility and speed. T-34 was best in WW2 because it was cheap, quick to manufacture and still good enoug
Leopard 2A6 normally has 1500hp, there are versions with 1800hp. It reaches 45mph on cross-road. T-90 doesn't reach that even on road. Leo is a lot heavier and faster, has the best gun in the world and best protection. If a war would start and Germany would invade Russia, a few Leos would quickly clear any russian defenses from ranges of 4 km while absorbing any damage they can't dodge.
In 1941 the fast and heavy German tanks weren't able to "clear russian defence", and will not be able to now. And you forgot that T-90 much cheaper that Leopard so Russia can make a HUGE number of tanks.
Tiger appeared in september 1942. It was rushed in production, so many problems weren't solved. Also it was very heavy for it's period, a Tiger I was heavier than your heaviest tank ever made, including T-90 ;) It was however as fast as KV-1 and IS-2 but had superior suspensions.
That's where you make a mistake, Leo2a6 is a cheap tank too, so you see, this time the germans made the perfect tank, easy to produce, easy to maintenance and formidable on battlefield. 16 countries in world owns Leos.
May be A26 is a cheap by Western standards, but T-series tanks much cheaper.
P.S. Our heaviest tank was Object-279. This prototype can withstand the shock wave of nuclear explosion, but it was too high cost for mass-production.
Unless it's right in the middle of the explosion, in which case your prototype would be obliterated instantly. At a distance most MBTs can withstand the shockwave and survive if they have NBC protection, which most tanks have these days.
As i said, unless it's right in the middle of the explosion. Look, the reactions produced in a nuclear explosion are at atomic levels, particles collapse, any material is reduced to nothing more than atoms. The shockwave is produced as a result of these reactions, that's an entirely different matter.
I know that no one material does not stand up to the temperature at the epicenter of a nuclear explosion. But armor of this tank withstand much greater loads than conventional MBT's armor.
Tiger and Panther had many design NOT production problems. Production problems they had ofcourse as well but mainly design ones. Their weights, mobility, manufacturing time, size etc. Cost of a leopard 2a6 is average $4 508 353 USD, while cost of average T-90 is $1,371,000 USD. 3 T-90 could be produced and it will be still cheaper than Leo. In terms of quantity your Leo will not stand 3:1 ratio in a huge field engagement that would have been to much.
And one other thing to add. T-90 is in temporary production. In 2009 new T-95 will be fielded in Russian army and that would be a nightmare for Pentagon armor specialists. Armed with 135 or 152mm smoothbore guns, with totally superior fire control system, low profile, high mobility. Completelly new approach.
That may be as it is, but keep in mind the germans already have developed the 140mm smoothbore gun in response to the russian 152mm. So the T-95 will become inferior on it's first day of production, compared to the next Leopard. Germans always were a few steps ahead concerning military technology.
140mm have a less powerfull capabilities than 152mm - and you know 140mm and 152mm guns are used by howitzers/artilerries commonly. Having developed that gun doesnt mean its ready to be used on a tank. The Russian one is... coupled with new APFSDS rounds, ATGM missiles, milimetric wavelenght radar as a part of sensor suite of fire control system, active protection systems, jamming... dude there are so many 1sts on Russian side that you wont be able to count it on your two hands :)

Who cares here about what Canada bought. Canada bought used tanks,not new. You pay 50000 Euro /per 2000 miles/per tank only to replace some small wheels that wear out every 2000 miles because the tank is too heavy. Again nobody ever plans to sell this tank to Canada,so go drive your Leopard.

In a state of war again some enemy you don't need only quality. You need affordability and speed of manufacturing together with accessible materials. This is Russian phylosophy that proven itself effective in WW2 against very good german Tigers and Panthers that were the best of its class - but they were slow to move, slow to manufacture and heavy material demanding - even gas. Thats why Russian T-34 ruled the fields of eastern front.

Dude what makes Russian tanks overall the best in the world is not just the thickness of their armor. T-90 commonly equiped with 850 HP diesel engine, however there are 1200HP turbine versions as well and they've been dubbed "flying tanks" - so fast and agile that leopard and rest could only dream of - google it please before you state facts. Heavier doesnt mean neccessarily better - cuts dosn agility and speed. T-34 was best in WW2 because it was cheap, quick to manufacture and still good enoug

Leopard 2A6 normally has 1500hp, there are versions with 1800hp. It reaches 45mph on cross-road. T-90 doesn't reach that even on road. Leo is a lot heavier and faster, has the best gun in the world and best protection. If a war would start and Germany would invade Russia, a few Leos would quickly clear any russian defenses from ranges of 4 km while absorbing any damage they can't dodge.

Tiger appeared in september 1942. It was rushed in production, so many problems weren't solved. Also it was very heavy for it's period, a Tiger I was heavier than your heaviest tank ever made, including T-90 ;) It was however as fast as KV-1 and IS-2 but had superior suspensions.
That's where you make a mistake, Leo2a6 is a cheap tank too, so you see, this time the germans made the perfect tank, easy to produce, easy to maintenance and formidable on battlefield. 16 countries in world owns Leos.

May be A26 is a cheap by Western standards, but T-series tanks much cheaper.
P.S. Our heaviest tank was Object-279. This prototype can withstand the shock wave of nuclear explosion, but it was too high cost for mass-production.

Unless it's right in the middle of the explosion, in which case your prototype would be obliterated instantly. At a distance most MBTs can withstand the shockwave and survive if they have NBC protection, which most tanks have these days.

Look, the reactions produced in a nuclear explosion are at atomic levels, particles collapse, any material is reduced to nothing more than atoms. The shockwave is produced as a result of these reactions, that's an entirely different matter.

Tiger and Panther had many design NOT production problems. Production problems they had ofcourse as well but mainly design ones. Their weights, mobility, manufacturing time, size etc. Cost of a leopard 2a6 is average $4 508 353 USD, while cost of average T-90 is $1,371,000 USD. 3 T-90 could be produced and it will be still cheaper than Leo. In terms of quantity your Leo will not stand 3:1 ratio in a huge field engagement that would have been to much.

And one other thing to add. T-90 is in temporary production. In 2009 new T-95 will be fielded in Russian army and that would be a nightmare for Pentagon armor specialists. Armed with 135 or 152mm smoothbore guns, with totally superior fire control system, low profile, high mobility. Completelly new approach.

That may be as it is, but keep in mind the germans already have developed the 140mm smoothbore gun in response to the russian 152mm. So the T-95 will become inferior on it's first day of production, compared to the next Leopard. Germans always were a few steps ahead concerning military technology.

140mm have a less powerfull capabilities than 152mm - and you know 140mm and 152mm guns are used by howitzers/artilerries commonly. Having developed that gun doesnt mean its ready to be used on a tank. The Russian one is... coupled with new APFSDS rounds, ATGM missiles, milimetric wavelenght radar as a part of sensor suite of fire control system, active protection systems, jamming... dude there are so many 1sts on Russian side that you wont be able to count it on your two hands :)
