Forgive me for being a total fanboy, but this book is quite good. I wish the author had used some of the more "modern" function names like first and rest instead of car and cdr, but this book is still the best on programming I've ever read.
@oboeplayer83 I personally think car and cdr are more usefull. Sure, they do the same thing as first and rest, but if you get used to car and cdr then you can do crazier stuff like cadr, cdaddr, or cadaddaadadddddar* :P
* Ok, you can't really do that :P, but still, at least you'll know what you're facing
dude, i liked scheme very much (a bit of mit-sicp) ... but i'm flattened by this video i'll be a patron of commonlisp (eventhough its standard isn't upgraded) .... the funniest programming video ever .. all stars
I'm definitely getting the book after reading the free chapter. Also, I'm wondering if the author has any suggestions for clojure specific books I can read as well.
"track stocks, draw charts or balance weasels on a rake" three of the most common computational tasks. well, maybe not chart drawing or stock tracking but weasel balancing is right up there...
"Every programmer should learn a little Lisp! It will give you insights into programming you can't get anywhere else. Seriously... give Lisp a shot. You won't regret it!" substitute Lisp for LSD ;)
Bought the ebook edition that I'm reading on my kindle. Fantastic so far, and with this cool videoclip, Land of Lisp risks to be the cooler programming book ever!
Your video convinced me. I bought the book and eBook combo!
I've been a professional programmer for about 15 years, and of course I had to do a little bit of Scheme in college (as was the fashion in those days!), but I sure wouldn't say "I know Lisp". Your book was just too much fun to pass up. Woo!
Yes, angelwhite, the book should start shipping in a week or two (though as I'm only the author I don't have detailed info on the distribution process)
@drcode100 I bought the book from the nostarch site. Three friends and I are going to go through it over winter break. And, no joke, it is entirely because of this video, which was amusing enough to make Ruby Weekly, which I read and posted to my Facebook, which intrigued my friends enough to suggest we learn Lisp (I was actually rooting for Clojure, but its books are still immature, and they really liked the game focus of Land of Lisp). Anyway, the song and video are brilliant!
@calrogman Just going out on a limb here, but the video shows many warning signs that indicate he might be using Lisp. Lisp use should not be taken lightly, since it is often a gateway to harder languages, like Haskell.
Lisp is one helluva drug.

I'm totally buying this book, drcode100!
It has the two characteristics I've been searching for:
(1) teaches LISP
(2) teaches LISP while doing games
Now... if you only offered a high bitrate version of this tune... :))

Such a catchy tune! I might have to give this Lisp thing a try. I'm a new Rubyist, but you can never know enough languages.
