  • Lisp is one helluva drug.

  • Good to see someone thinking so deep and sharing it so easily with the world.

  • Also the jokes about Haskell were too much

  • Bought the book at Fry's a week ago. only lisp book there and it stuck out like a sore thumb

  • ok i'll read the book :)

  • I have an AI class, and I learned today that we'll be using Lisp. At first I was all :\ after watching this I'm all :O ... :D

  • I was looking for a speech impediment video

  • (defun praise(who) (prin1 "This is one of the most awesome programming-themed song and video. Being an apprentice lisper, I appreciate how it stresses the *coolness* and *otherworldly-quality* of lisp.") (prin1 (concatenate 'string "Long live the " who)))

    (praise "authors")

  • there are 11 scheme programmers around

  • @tsueberm I think the other one is Java programmer.

  • Needs more cowbell

  • i am so lost to what this is....

  • This is the best music video I have ever seen. Not being sarcastic. And I just ordered a book on amazon.

  • ( + this-video 1)

  • I love people with a lisp. There adorable!

  • My brother has a lisp when he talks

  • (-::-)

  • What is name of the green extra terrestrial?

  • @MrJankoPanko

    Henry

  • That's really cool! LOL rulez!

  • Forgive me for being a total fanboy, but this book is quite good. I wish the author had used some of the more "modern" function names like first and rest instead of car and cdr, but this book is still the best on programming I've ever read.

  • @oboeplayer83 I personally think car and cdr are more usefull. Sure, they do the same thing as first and rest, but if you get used to car and cdr then you can do crazier stuff like cadr, cdaddr, or cadaddaadadddddar* :P

    * Ok, you can't really do that :P, but still, at least you'll know what you're facing

  • dude, i liked scheme very much (a bit of mit-sicp) ... but i'm flattened by this video i'll be a patron of commonlisp (eventhough its standard isn't upgraded) .... the funniest programming video ever .. all stars

  • "There is nothing.... Cooler than a macro!" LMAO

  • This video makes me wanna play Dwarf Fortress....

  • Pretty Funny with creative !

  • @codemaster101101 Ha ha, it seem that all you need is a little push

  • :D I'm ordering this book right away.

  • Makes me feel gay, but then again I Lisp, so...

  • I'm definitely getting the book after reading the free chapter. Also, I'm wondering if the author has any suggestions for clojure specific books I can read as well.

  • "track stocks, draw charts or balance weasels on a rake" three of the most common computational tasks. well, maybe not chart drawing or stock tracking but weasel balancing is right up there...

  • I was expecting a funny Gay Land of the Lost parody. Disappointed.

  • "Every programmer should learn a little Lisp! It will give you insights into programming you can't get anywhere else. Seriously... give Lisp a shot. You won't regret it!" substitute Lisp for LSD ;)

  • What the what did I just watch? :-D

  • Fantastic video for an incredible fun book!

  • I'm enjoying the book quite a bit!

  • well, i've been learning a bit of scheme recently, and this looks awesome. in for one :D

  • I'm loving the e-book version so far. I'm having loads of fun! I think I'm gonna try learning Clojure after this. Can't wait for my dead trees copy!

  • What the hell.

  • ok guess I'll be looking for this book now. you twisted my arm

  • (== (this video)(very funny))

  • @erikopnemer

    aren't you forgetting something?

    (eq? '(this video) '(very funny))

  • he got tired of java and learned lisp.. what the f...

  • Bought the ebook edition that I'm reading on my kindle. Fantastic so far, and with this cool videoclip, Land of Lisp risks to be the cooler programming book ever!

  • Your video convinced me. I bought the book and eBook combo!

I've been a professional programmer for about 15 years, and of course I had to do a little bit of Scheme in college (as was the fashion in those days!), but I sure wouldn't say "I know Lisp". Your book was just too much fun to pass up. Woo!

I can't wait to balance weasels on a rake.

  • I'm totally buying this book, drcode100!

It has the two characteristics I've been searching for:

    (1) teaches LISP

    (2) teaches LISP while doing games

Now... if you only offered a high bitrate version of this tune... :))

  • Yes, angelwhite, the book should start shipping in a week or two (though as I'm only the author I don't have detailed info on the distribution process)

  • @drcode100 I bought the book from the nostarch site. Three friends and I are going to go through it over winter break. And, no joke, it is entirely because of this video, which was amusing enough to make Ruby Weekly, which I read and posted to my Facebook, which intrigued my friends enough to suggest we learn Lisp (I was actually rooting for Clojure, but its books are still immature, and they really liked the game focus of Land of Lisp). Anyway, the song and video are brilliant!

  • When is the written book coming out? Before December?

  • Such a catchy tune! I might have to give this Lisp thing a try. I'm a new Rubyist, but you can never know enough languages.

  • Hah, that's excellent. Good use of the "play him off, keyboard cat" meme there, too (-:

  • Holy crap, what psychotropics were you taking when you made this video and can I have some?

  • @calrogman Just going out on a limb here, but the video shows many warning signs that indicate he might be using Lisp. Lisp use should not be taken lightly, since it is often a gateway to harder languages, like Haskell.

  • (defun video_comment (Lisp_song) (cond ((still_playing (Lisp_song)) (I_hate_lisp (Lisp_song))) (T (end_comment(NiL))) ))

  • Typo: "They might luck funny" should be "They might look funny"

  • @puzlisto Thanks puzlisto- Don't know how I missed that....

  • (X)_(X)

  • cool it

  • I can't express in English how epic is this video, but if I spoke a Lisp dialect, I would.

  • Awesome

  • Loved it!

  • Totally awesome! Made my day!

  • hahaha

  • lulz! epic song!

  • omfg epic
