@pilkingtonphil I love David Simon, but Tony Kushner is a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright. Even if he is self-absorbed, he backs that shit up. "Angels in America" is fantastic.
@tremontirocks Haven't seen it... but I'll bet its 'gay' themed - because that's all that guy seems to care about... himself and his identity or whatever. Met 'artists' like that before... yawn... write a diary or something...
@pilkingtonphil All artists are writing about themselves. You're gonna yawn at a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright? You sound retarded when you write shit like that.
@tremontirocks Well, maybe I think that the Pulitzer Prize is pretentious nonsense and only people who have a herd mentality and can't make independent, critical distinctions between good and bad screenwriting/playwriting are fooled by distinctions of the sort. Maybe I think there's often a political/cultural agenda behind how prizes like that are handed out. Maybe. Or maybe I'm just - how did you put it so cleverly? - retarded...
@tremontirocks And no, all artists do not 'write about themselves'. That's an idiotic thing to say. Read Lady Chatterly's Lover the other day. Excellent. Not written about Lawrence, I should think. What about Molly Bloom's famous monologue in Ulysses? Was that written about Joyce? Hell, what about The Wire? Were all those characters just repetitions of Simon's own personality? Don't think so...
Only talentless self-obsessed, narcissistic hacks write about themselves all the time.
@pilkingtonphil You're calling Tony Kushner, very widely considered to be one of the country's finest living playwrights, a "talentless, self-obsessed, narcissistic hack." Retarded by definition.
@tremontirocks That's right. Other people have different opinions to you... on art, of all things. My God! This must be something of a shock. As for being 'widely renowned' I don't invest much value in the opinions of the masses - and awful lot of people watch Fox News, that doesn't make it anymore true. No, I don't feel that overwhelming pressure to agree with the so-called 'elite', often self-interested, opinions of others - I hope that's okay with you...
@pilkingtonphil No, it's not OK, you butt-nugget. I crusade against idiocy. "Angels in America" is a gorgeous, wonderful play, and Kushner is brilliant. There are facts in life. Those are two of them.
@tremontirocks You 'crusade against idiocy' and you call me a 'butt nugget'. Have you ever tried weeding your own backyard you elitist fool? You, like all narcissistic, self-obsessed cannot stand when people disagree with you - which only makes me want to disagree with you all the more.
Angels in America from what I've read looks like a stupid concept that is lauded as much for its quasi-political themes as it is as a story - ditto for Munich.
@pilkingtonphil I called you a "butt nuggett" because it's hilarious, just like if I called you "a walking pint of cock snot," which is more disgusting but equally hilarious. I'm not elitist. You're confusing elitism with accurate observation. Tony Kushner could write your face off. "Angels in America" is a classic.
@tremontirocks Well, there's something else we disagree on, then. I think 'butt nuggett' [sic] and 'cock snot' are childish and stupid - you think they're clever and funny. Tony Kushner is a walking cliche - but then, if you think the words 'butt nuggett' [sic] are funny... well... I'm not saying anything, I'm just saying... I'll keep my aesthetic judgments as they stand. I'll check out more Kushner when I start getting 'Lolz' out of 'butt nuggett' [sic].
It's obvious that they, other than Simon, did not know what they were talking about when talking about Omar. That Angels guy was just happy he had a gay robber and that girl didn't know anything. They think that he was using some profound knowledge of homosexuality and gangsters to write, but he debunked that when he said he was writing in bars on cocktail napkins. I think he was trying to say, take it 4 what it is sometimes, but pay attention to the metaphors of the fall of society.
David Simon and Tony Kushner are both brilliant, but of course we all found this video looking for stuff about The Wire
