He's not being contradictory, he is being evasive because Gohmert is trying to put words into his mouth. That's how you'd respond too if you weren't an idiot. Also, what relevance does his knowledge of legal action in Norway have to do with this questioning. And how is he supposed to fully answer the question and not be evasive when every time he starts to answer the question in a way that Gohmert does not like, he interrupts him and uses misdirection to make him look hypocritical.

One lady was shouting in one vid haw haw how does it feel to be a minority now? She was happy about the hate crime bill as if it was for revenge and making those she felt made her a minority a minority. She had a correct perspective of the effect the bill does have. We cannot correct the past by making new victims of peopel today that may be in groups of peopel that may have been bias in the past or even today. Should make laws to demand equality for ALL people. NO hate allowed. Period.

Vet, while you're correct that the hate crimes bill does not cover veterans (nor does any state hate crimes law), it most certainly does cover Christians.

As for "no hate allowed", the bill covers ALL crimes motivated by bias against race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and gender identity. About 1 in 5 race-related hate crimes are anti-white, for example.

They have picketed all over the country funerals and churches contrary to their beliefs and hold signs everywhere saying godhates fags. They won on appeal a suit against them They happen to be attornies and know teh first amendment well. Westboro picketing funerals isn't committing a hate crime, they're exercising their right to freedom of speech, as execrable as their speech may be. Were they to beat up a gay person, on the other hand, they most certainly would be charged with a hate crime.

I do not recollect impying in any way that Christians are exempt from being accountable for physical harm done due to hate of certain classes. As for the Ft Hood shooter, why in the world do you think he would be charged with a hate crime? His actions were clearly not motivated by a bias against any particular group - he shot people completely indiscriminately.

And Kamau Kambon did not commit a crime any more than the Westboro Baptist Church did, so how would he be charged?

My official take is ( on the issue of inequality of the bill) it is an oxymoron prupose of law to create NEW victims of inequality in ide to protect person of PAST inequality problems. Also it ignores other groups who are hated. Like Christains and military persons, veterans. I personally am for promoting equality laws to start anew in proomoting equality for ALL. Obama wants to MAKE UP FOR THE PAST but in so doing he is creating new victims of inequality.

Eric Holder made no sense. One the one hand he said that "torture" is dependent on whether there wasn an "intent" to harm the, mentally or physically, the person being tortured. So the Rep points out that those doing the waterboarding were knew that they weren't doing permanent harm, so it it torture? Holder has to hold then line that it was, so then, when backed into a corner, he said that it's dependent on the "trier of facts" determination of whether or not there was harm.
