...I am from the north east of the US, Bucks Co PA, between Phila and NYC, and we say correcTly, not with a K...and it may be the Phila influence but we also tend to use pavement more often than not instead of sidewalk...North America is so diverse it can't be fit in one category...
move your mouth all you want, the two words sounds exactly the same, in a british accent, maybe. but with an northamerican accent, it's impossible to tell
@tsingyuan This is difficult for most non-native speakers. The words are: EAR, EAR, EAR " I hear with my ear". YEAR, YEAR, YEAR "This year I plan to accomplish all of my goals."
I just finished my latest set of videos. The new videos will all have captions to aid in learning the slight differences. Look for them in the fall. Good luck!

here the solution for who doesn't get it.
ear = "i" like in "is" and the r sound, i+r
year = ee + r

@cipihevent Thanks for helping. I love when viewers use their knowledge to help others. In American English, I would describe it as:
ear = "e" like in "see" and the r sound, e+r
year = Y+ ee + r
Year and ear BOTH rhyme with beer, fear, hear, dear, jeer.
