  • Have you got the life boat sketch?

"it's no good you'll have to eat me!"

    "eer with a gammy leg?!!"

  • This was a parody of the movie "Sons & Lovers" starring Dean Stockwell as the son--it was made in 1960. They used to show it when I was a kid on the classic movie channel. I had the biggest crush on Stockwell, so when I first saw this sketch on PBS at around the same time, I thought it was a hoot! And it's still a riot!

  • This is one of my FAVORITE skits. This was priceless! "I've had more gala luncheons than your had hot meals!"

  • Very funny sketch. I especially liked the Barnsley bit, I'm from there. XD

  • Oh Ken, be careful! You know what he's like after a few novels!

  • pure genius.

terry jones reminds me of gordon brown too. i think its the dress.

  • Hampstead wasn't good enough fer ya, was it? Ya had ta go poncin' of to Barnsley!!

  • A wonderful inversion of the british class system! Sheer Python brilliance!

  • "There's more to life than culture!"

    Possibly my favorite python sketch.

    ha, this sketch is awesome

  • They've terned bloody DH Lawrence on it's 'ed--woonderful...nowt wrong wi' gala loonceheons...joost loovely.

  • Wasn't DH Lawrence a Nottinghamshire lad? Thought this was a parody of the northern kitchen sink writers of the 50s but could be wrong.....What the booldy'ells a tungsten carbide drill.....masterpiece..! .

  • Yes, he was. But if you check Sons and Lovers you'll get my meaning.

  • This is one of my all time comedic bits!!

  • Laight: No doubt indeed. "It could express a vital theme of our age." ;)

  • @NGS712 Type in "Just the Words" into google. It'll quote every Monty python skit.

  • I wish I had a script of this sketch. ;)

THERE'S NOTHIN' WRONG WITH GALA LUNCHEONS LAD!

  • whey aye man goerdie man!

    WORKIN' CLASS RULES!!!

  • That's not Georgie, that's Yorkshire, surely.

  • rather it would seem relatively alien or they would be envious. It is my favourite of their sketches (although Four Yorkshiremen is great too).

  • By ek that were bloody champion.

  • The argument clinic and the philosopher football match are great too.

  • This Python sketch is very under-rated, I suspect because the concept, despite being such a neat role reversal that hits the nail on the head, is actually very subtly done- after all, the playwright father who mingles with film stars is still dressed like a labourer whereas the labourer is dressed in more middle class clothing. I also suspect that, although most people could laugh at 'upper class twits', people who mingled with film stars were not something they would laugh at-

  • toongsten carbide drills!?

  • I can clearly see reversing in that scetch. In the real life mid-class fathers used to work as coalminers and sons wanted to become actors. If Monty Python's comedy had was a painting, it would had been painted by Picaso.

  • a seh dont bi rippin barnsley a wa bon thear an al die thear

  • "There is NOTHING wrong with gala luncheons!"

  • You know what he's like after a few novels

  • Perfect. Absolutely perfect...

  • first-rate comic delivery

  • yeeeeerrrr TIT!!!

    It's his writer's cramp!!!!

HAHAHAHA I LOVE IT...why are they so good?!?!

  • One of their very best - a brilliant parody of Sons and Lovers - "poncin' off to Barnsley with your coal-minin' friends"! Hilarious!

  • "Poncing off to Barnsley"...all-time classic!!

  • "One day you'll realise there's more to life then culture! There's dirt and smoke!"

    I love this sketch :)

  • My favourite sketch <3
