heheheheheee LOVE MONTY PYTHON WHICH WE HAD STUFF LIKE THIS NOWADAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :'( too sad im so out of my time....i shoulda be born 40 years ago! :L thanks for uploading these!!
oh and btw....WHO THE HELL CAN DISLIKE THESE VIDEOS?????
This was a parody of the movie "Sons & Lovers" starring Dean Stockwell as the son--it was made in 1960. They used to show it when I was a kid on the classic movie channel. I had the biggest crush on Stockwell, so when I first saw this sketch on PBS at around the same time, I thought it was a hoot! And it's still a riot!
I have to say that quitting is more realistic, but it does screw you from getting your job back if you should need it later. Lets face it with the economy a lot of us are probably working jobs we don't want to :) br/br/I wish I had a job cleaning snake tubs, or rat tubs for that matter! I'd take minimum wage!
Wasn't DH Lawrence a Nottinghamshire lad? Thought this was a parody of the northern kitchen sink writers of the 50s but could be wrong.....What the booldy'ells a tungsten carbide drill.....masterpiece..! .
This Python sketch is very under-rated, I suspect because the concept, despite being such a neat role reversal that hits the nail on the head, is actually very subtly done- after all, the playwright father who mingles with film stars is still dressed like a labourer whereas the labourer is dressed in more middle class clothing. I also suspect that, although most people could laugh at 'upper class twits', people who mingled with film stars were not something they would laugh at-
I can clearly see reversing in that scetch. In the real life mid-class fathers used to work as coalminers and sons wanted to become actors. If Monty Python's comedy had was a painting, it would had been painted by Picaso.
Ahead of their time, who would have known life would imitate art in the years to follow? LOL
