So is it offensive because Rachel is supposed to be a catholic school-girl and Finn a priest or is Rachel supposed to be a jewish school-girl and Finn a catholic priest (although i dont know why) whit the offensive part being them two rubbing in their new found faith as "a better choice", suggesting their peers lack it and have something to repent about? The later is what i first thought but now that i see Rachels weirdly short, hiked up skirt...
@gigi1bokus yeah its basically offensive because its a song about being born again and rachel and finn are doing it as a school girl and a priest, which is supposed to be the offensive part, i dont think the particular faiths are the focus of the offensiveness
@klarebear7211 I didnt mean their particular faiths would be the offensive part; i meant if Rachel and Finn were saying "i am born again so i have more faith than you" or implying to their lisseners that they dont have any compared to themselfs. But yeah it could just be the priest and the catholic shool-girl gimick.
@ikom35 for every song they do they get the rights to do whatever they want it, its not like they club the writers of the song over the head and steal the rights while theyre unconscious
@trendstterrose It's more visual. What happened in the episode, when Sam joined the club, Rachel and Finn decided to have him feel welcome by losing a duet competition in the club by doing an offensive performance, in which they intentionally dressed as a Catholic school and a Priest singing a love to one another.
No, she wasn't a nun, she was a Catholic School Girl, and he played the role of a priest. The song is about "loosing your virginity" which is very offensive when mixing the school girl and the priest. Just pointing that out there.. lol
@backpackify11 its offensive cuz theyre singing about making love and "becoming one. . . . " tht sorta thing. and finns a priest and rachels a catholic school girl.
@Backpackify11 she was dressed as a nun or a school girl n finn was dressed as a priest, its sort of a love song. so the costumes and the prayer motion was offensive, i tot it was epic n funny.
I think it's funny how they threw the competition by doing this,LOL! KEEP IN MIND THEY WERE THROWING THE DUETS COMPETION (BUT THEY STILL SOND GOOD), so they intended on offending people. I don't mean to be offensive but I though the choice of costumes and the song they sung were both hilarious!!! I LOVE GLEE!
@Alckor2711 i think that bcoz they were wearing an appropriate costume to performance with this song. Rachel is Christian schoolgirl n Finn wore monk t-shirt. n the lyrics is about love that conflict with Religion.
The song has religious overtones and is a love song and Rachel/Finn dressed up as a Priest and either nun or a school girl so it's obviously totally inappropriate for them to be singing such content to one another. The actual song wasn't inappropriate - it's the costumes and the prayer motions they kept making during it. I thought it was hilarious.
they actually sounded amazing!!! and it was so funny the acting and when they said: what?? we are... shock, we are show, i hope this doesnt cost us the competition!!! haha and when the lost, the way they look each other and when finn says: WE DID IT, BABY!!!
vou ser sincero como nunca eu vi todas as versões dessa música e nada c compara a essa dupla incrível a voz deles surpreende d+ adorei. particularmente seria um sonho conhecer o pessoal d
It's offensive because this song is about a man and woman being in love with each other and you love making and what not. The part that's offensive is the costumes they chose Finn was a priest and Rachel a nun. In the Catholic church (at least in the U.S.A.) both are suppose to be celibate and are not even allowed to marry. So you can imagine the repercussions of the two singing a love song to each other.
You know TheSNSDJjang, i'm happy you ask this question, because i don't understand too ^^ So it's because they are dressed like a nun and a priest?? (sorry if m'y sentences are strange, i only learn english..)
Sorry for asking AGAIN but what's so offensive about this? XD The girl/man thing wasn't it i read somewhere that this song is about God so i really don;t know what to believe...can someone givem e detailed explanation of what's going on XD what's so offensive Mercedes can't believe and Quinn wants to punch ?
The Mariah Carey version of this song is terrible stop complementing it "I'm born agay-ee-ay-ay-yeah-ee-ay-yee-oh-way-yeah-ohhh-hoo, agay-ee-ayy-ee-ay-en!"
Bitch just sing the damn song, you do not have to warble like that after the end of every sentence!
Glee fails at trying to intentionally make a bad cover of a song, (e.g. With you I'm Born again, and Run Joey Run). But they always succeed at making a bad song sound awesome (e.g. Friday)
@everyonewatching: You believe that the costumes are offensive? Well, the song is TOO! The song says is tellin you what to do, so you have to do it!! GIVE ME SWEETNESS! Not hatred!
i love this song, but out of context ONLY!! This is the most offensive thing i've seen in a very long time....I know that Glee takes a very liberal approach on many things but this was over the line...
@cpsoccer99 Finn is dressed up as a Priest (he is wearing a stole on his collar.) And Rachel is dressed like a young girl who would be preparing to enter a nunnery or something along those lines. Either way, both have pledged to stay chaste and devoted themselves to God. Neither are supposed to be having sexual intercourse, therefore their portrayal of the song is offensive to religious people, namely Roman Catholic's.
@Frog869 finn is dressed as a priest and rachels a school girl(or possibly a nun, pretty sure its like a catholic school girl though) and this is a song about having sex..so its offensive..but i find it hillarious and im even catholic :)
OHHHHHH I get it!!!! I'm so slow cause I was thinking to myself Finn is a priest or father and Rachel is like a school girl... I don't get it. And I'm such an idiot cause I had it all put together and... I swear I'm so stupid!!!!!! XD
@bettyemo12 because they dressed up as a priest and nun and sung this song to each other...that's why the others thought it was offensive...i really love this song and being sung by glee makes it all the more better :D
they sing it very well :), minus the performance of course haha... i basically laughed loud while watching it.. but if you listen to it with your eyes closed, it's wonderful

then they made it bady offensive lol
