I was convinced the guy was a real volunteer right up until he went along with the slo-mo gag. Which explains how David got away with having him feel in the bucket. I can see the main purpose of this effect is to be funny, but if it were me, I'd have kept the guy's status as a stooge hidden.

This one's pretty obvious. There is definitely a duck in the container from the beginning, The one the fat guy is holding. Look at the angle Copperfield is tipping it creating a blind spot for the duck to get hidden. As for the slow motion trick there is some kind of separation between the fake duck and the real one. Maybe you already figured this out, so just fuck this explanation of you did.

When he puts the duck inside the box, there's a little pouch or pocket or something attached to that lid where David puts the duck in. notice how it's the first thing he removes when he reveals the vanish - and also how he removes it not horizontally but a little more angled towards him. the duck is right behind it. the table he places it on most likely has a hole or something in it where the duck rest. it's a lot thicker than it seems.

it's a bad diagram but the bottom rotates. so when he places the fake duck on one side, he rotates the base so that the other side is revealed - with the real duck inside. this probably takes a bit of time and misdirection - which is why you'll notice that in EVERY performance of copperfield, his "assistant" always does the slo-mo walk thing. it's a comic misdirection that allows time for david to rotate the base,voila

awww it's no fun when you see what they did. You can see the mirror and when the camera shows the "audience guy" run it is drawing your attention away so you don't remember the way the duck goes in, that way it goes out the other separate side. I still don't know what happens to make it disappear though.

Its very simple! In the bucket are two champers. You can see a reflextion in the bucket, theres a mirror wall, so it looks like you can see the whole bucket!

I saw him in Germany and it was a great show! I love it :-)

You are indeed right about the bucket how that is. I thought the same thing. but the volunteer isn't a volunteer. I went to his show yesterday where they showed this trick. The guy also acted walking away in slow motion and turned around and put his thumbs up. So he's probably in the whole thing.... Only sometimes its random.

@brittyandemi3 Really? a magician will have alot of assistants, I know, i worked for a famous magician today, you may know him, mindfreak? (Clue) We are sworn to secrecy, liable for it for a certain period, anytime after the contract, its ultimately up to the helper/assistant to give away secrets. Though there is alot of respect in the community, so we don't ruin it, just remeber it's an illusion. For the most part, there is alot of people involved in many illusions, not just the magician.

@BlackChoco1000 it's no secret that david uses actors. since this is a pretty simple routine, he probably picked the guy randomly before the show and told him what to do. magicians do that a lot, especially with kids. they don't wanna grab a random kid and have them cry on stage.

@Misterslin The duck dies. Notice the thickness of the top portion of the box when compared to the other sides, noitce the needed force to clasp the lid down. Ever seen the movie The Prestige, how magicians use mulitple birds for an act invovling just one, same principle.
