  • Why's it all about England? Pubs are suffering right across the UK. 'England' is mentioned over and over, but the only time 'Britain' is mentioned is when Nigel Farage says 'is Britain going to win the Ashes'(!!!) It's a silly mistake to make, but it just reinforces the perception that UKIP, like the Conservatives, are only really interested in England, and English votes, and that they don't see the rest of the UK as being as important.

  • just as the african americans gained there rights in the fiftys through sustained boycot of all racist bisnesses so will the smoker regain there rights in the now boycot the pubs starve them of funding maby when the last few pubs have gone to the wall we might get some common bloody sence and a fair hand all we want is a seperate room away from the whinging anti smokeing zelots honestly who wants to hang around them whiny intolerant %*££ ends

  • pub are crap since the smoking ban, what happened to the thousands who were

going to flock back to pubs when the ban came.i will stick to tesco for my beer and have a fag in the house ,saves standing in the rain.they can close all the pubs for me now. dont care.

  • Turn our pubs into Cannabis Cafe's.

Get the weed out of the dealers hands, get the weed out of our kids hands, get the pubs open and let's all have a smoke and do something creative.

  • Excellent video. I would be inclined to join UKIP if their other policies were as good as this one. But its the capitalist free market (Cheap booze in supermarkets, and a recession) that is destroying pubs and damaging communities I can't see UKIP wanting to cross swords with Tesco or Asda on a lucrative profit area like cheap booze. Pubs closing eats away at our society and culture for the benefit of no one but the supermarket shareholders. Its time we told them to F---Off.

  • If the Chamberlains (leftists) had their way, there would be no pubs because they wouldn't want to offend the Muslims.

  • @MrJanesaddiction Pubs are not just about cheap booze but if you want to drink alone then that's your prerogative...............

  • Maybe if these pubs stop charging such ridiculous ripoff prices for their beer, they would get more customers!

  • yeah pup prices in australia have increased thanks to the fatcat assholes with there smoking ban and also the decline in pub bands due to noise complaint act yeah pub life in australia is changing like the uk . bloody cappuccino machines now instead of beer tabs what a fucking joke and the price of beer no thanks to the fucking bureaucrat wankers

  • yeah our pubs in australia are changing carpet every where now and coffee machines instead of beer taps kids games arias no more live bands no more smoking if you drunk they kick ya out you only have to look drunk and ya gone and the price of beer has gone up $5 A schooner $8 a point now that's going to far now you bureaucrats assholes. ya do gooders and bloody leave our pubs alone and start to worry about the fucking immigration problem we;re facing at the moment wankers.

  • You think it'll happen to someone else and then one day it happens to you. Get behind this important campaign.

The Dragon is now another statistic. RIP.

All donations from video to local childrens cancer charity, a closing gesture...click on user name.

  • Behind the 'statistics' is a lot of pain. There are many people who give up on running or starting a business at a time when we need to grow the economy. A big thank you to the arseholes in Westminster and Brussels for this state of affairs.

  • Dont you think in the old days, people were alot more social. Always talking, not shy etc...

I would love to see the early 20th century.

  • You've just made me feel very old!

But yes, before facebook people actually met in real life and talked!

  • Alcohol definitely helps with cogent political thinking. Hell, legalise cannbais and heroin-flavoured crisps, we might solve everything.

  • yeah, there's these things called restaurants?

and of course channel 4 would never provide a biased view of anything.............

  • allow smoking in pubs then install extremely fucking large extractor fans.

This will evaporate everyones pint forcing them to buy more (££) while pleasing both smokers and non smokers.

    sort£d

  • Great Video,

Now I need to vent. I am not from the UK but from the USA but I definately support what you are doing.

Now the vent part. I live in Indiana and there is a band on smoking statewide even in our local bars. This to me is government control. I think that smokers and non smoker should have their own choice basically a place for each. Here places where the band is in effect are showing decreased attendance. We go to the bars to talk, relax, watch tv Government get out!

  • Hope your Tea Parties go well!

  • Well done Nigel and UKIP. The great British pub has been the heart of our society and culture of at least a 1000 years. This gov have tried their damned best to erase our British Culture and its time to stop them!

We have just 2 chances left to preserve our democracy from the unaccountable and fascist EU. Vote UKIP in June and at the next general election!

  • We are fast approaching the sixty fifth anniversary of D-day, when we remember the sacrifices of our fore fathers in their war to win us our freedom.

Will we be comemorating that freedom by surrendering it without a fight to an EU obsessed regime of nanny state dictators?

Freedom of choice was won for us at high cost, and now we see it stripped away to suit the selfish demands of anti smoking freaks.

  • HEAR, HEAR!!!! At least some of you Brits have your heads on straight!!!lol Now, as in our country, you have to turn upon the BEAST that confronts you freedoms and common sense ideals, THAT BEAST IS CALLED GOVERNMENT!!!! All the support in the world for you Nigel, and for your brothers in the conservative movement, We Yanks like your attitude, now you just have to recruit Dan Hannan, and go take over parliment! lol. P.S. My best friend is a descendant of Guy Fawkes!!!! lol

  • Pubs dont close coz of smoking bans - thats a lie disseminated by the PR-agencies working for the tobacco mafia.

  • We're all ears - why are pubs closing?

Please also tell us about the 'fake charity' mafia.

  • Dont worry EVITPOF is an antismoker working on behalf of NRT producers therefore has a vested interest in keeping smoking bans. He/she doesnt care about pub closures.

  • false accusation - can you back up your allegation?

But I can can call you an agent of the Tobacco mafia.

  • Problem is, anti-smoker or not, it's irrelevant.

Immediately after the smoking ban (1 of only 2 good things this govt. has done in the last 12 years) came into force, there was a huge surge in pub customers.

There a lots of reasons people don't go to pubs anymore; way too expensive because of tax, and way too unfriendly because of arrogant and violent fuckwits that the courts allow to roam freely. Add to that crappily average food, and that's about it!

  • "there was a huge surge in pub customers"

Think I must have missed the surge...was it good?

  • well I didnt see such a big surge and neither did all the boardded up pubs around!!

  • after some adjustment time one can observe an increase in revenue after a smoking ban.

Must be all the non smokers that been nauseated by the foul smell of cold tobacco smoke that now enjoy a pint...

  • Are you a teetotal vegetarian with halitosis?

  • no just a idiosyncrasy toward propaganda

lies spread by PR agents in the service of the tobacco mafia

  • It's people like you that make me want to start smoking and drink like a fish......

  • go ahead - make my day!

2 quarts of malt + 40 fags a day would be fine by me - just do it at home e. g. out of sight.

  • @EVITPOF Tabacco mafia?? What do they do? organized smoking?

  • WOW! You guys have the same problem we do! Government killng the private sector!!lol And they wonder why we are revisiting the Tea Party!!!!lol Long Live LIBERTY!!!! May conservative thinkers and speakers like Mr. Farage continue to throw bombs, and enlighten the people of Britain. Long may our friendship endure!

  • HERE! HERE!

  • Comment removed

  • We're all ears - why are pubs closing?

coz adults drink at home (high prices)

and kids drink in the streets.

Please also tell us about the 'fake charity' mafia.

No idea - you tell me please.

  • Here Here sir

  • Vote UKIP June the 4th 2009 !!!!

  • Too sensible Nigel, that is what this Country is lacking at the moment.

I will go back to the pubs when commensense is restored, so will many others.

No-one was ever banned from investing their own money into smoke-free venues were they?

mandyv freedom2choose info fighing for choice and TRUTH

  • More whinging businesses! Give the baby a bottle. If it can't make it work pack up shop and give some friendless loaner less of a chance to avoid spending time with his family. Might have some benefits for youth antisocial behavior.

  • 'Loners' would probably want to avoid company, unless they are out 'loaning' money? :-) , and the 'youth' you talk about can always get pissed out of their heads on supermarket booze.

  • Did Nigel say .." The Germans overturned the ban" ?

Excuse me Im off to do a bit of research on that !

    Vote UKIP !!

  • The German courts overturned the ban ruling that it was unconstitutional.

  • Quite right.

    Power to your elbow Nigel.

  • Here, Here!

Roll back the smoking bans, and let the PEOPLE "decide" where they will trade!

  • For a non-smoker with a history of smoking-induced respiratory illness, requiring time off sick, the smoking ban has been a liberating act. Anyone can now frequent pubs without incurring physical harm from the nicotine-addict. Pubs shouldn't allow smoking any more than they should allow radioactive waste. Tax-reductions should've been part of the smoking ban given that the industry is no longer such a supplier of NHS patients. Fat chance with our worst ever plunderer at the helm of the State.

  • Yes, pubs are a business, but I think the video makes a good case that this business is now too heavily taxed and regulated to be viable in many places. 80p a pint in tax is crazy! I had noticed that there seem to be an awful lot of boarded-up pubs around here recently. I think UKIP have a point on this one.

  • 'Discuss the England football team' ? 'Is Britain going to win the Ashes'? That'd be the "British" cricket team then would it, Nigel? You've been spending too much time in Brussels me old cock.

But jackets and ties should definitely be compulsory in pubs. Nice coat by the way. Loved you in 'Minder'.

  • Well It's really the English and Welsh Cricket Team and I can't say that I'm all that fussed that he called it the British Cricket team. I think you are nick picking here, Nigel is just keeping things simple.

  • Or Simples!

  • Pubs are also responsible for many illegal business dealings. I have never been in a local pub that has refused to serve a drunk person or those that arrive every day on opening without fail. Pubs have also closed because of second homeowners. I had warmed to UKIP over the financial crisis but this I find appalling. Pubs are a business and they must respond to a new market. If they can't or won't they will fail. We need a better class of business owners in the UK.

  • Do you run or ever have run a business?

  • I agree, fuck the newsagents while we're at it too! I hear they keep serving the same people day after day illegally providing them with cigarettes. And I've even heard of Mcdonalds serving fat people! Shame on the lot of em!

  • Lol!

McDonalds serving fat people, Newsagents serving people who can read, where will it end?!!

Let's get the Politicians to ban everything.

  • "We need a better class of business owners in the UK"

We need a better class of comment......

  • Well done Nigel. UKIP is lucky to have you.

  • One of my locals is just hanging on by the skin of its teeth, before the smoking ban it was thriving!

Keep up the good work Nigel before even more pubs dissapear.

  • Save our pubs from the corruption of Liebour and the EU!

  • Another piece that shows that UKIP is not a one issue party. Nigel Farage once again shows us how great an orator he is on common sense resolutions to this countries problems.

  • I fear its to late!!

  • Thank you Nigel for highlighting this issue, the issue which is behind smoking bans must also be brought to the attention of the general public and that is the corruption of scientific data, which has been used to purport a significant danger from second hand smoke where non exist.

It is about time some in the hospitality industry sued these merchants of deception.

  • As always Farage talking sense.

  • Common sense at last from a politician. Well done UKIP for mentioning and wanting to act on one of the main reasons our pubs are in decline - the smoking ban.

There's nothing wrong with choice to ensure that everyone is catered for comfortably and safely.

  • Thank God a politician actually has the balls to say out loud that it's the Smoking Ban that is causing 95% of the problems.

    It needs amending now!

  • Great video

    Pub closures 2005- 102

    Pub closures 2006- 204

    Pub closures July 2007- 4000+

Its refreshing to see a political party admit they notice the elephant in the room when considering pub closures.

Good point about pubs being people's parliaments. Has anyone considered the advantages to HMG of 'removing' these venues? Why have us sharing ideas and opinions, when we could be at home receiving them from the media?

  • How refreshing to hear a politician actually defending the pubs and quoting the main reason why they,re in so much trouble. The smoking ban needs amending sooner rather than later.

  • Well Done Nigel. Amend the smoking ban and allow a sensible approach ( seperate indoor smoking rooms)which allows smokers and non-smokers choice.

  • Finaly a party that has given this issue a thought and has common sence. Im definitly voting the uk independance party when im old enough :)

  • When are you 18? Next opportunity is June 4th 2009. Vote UKIP.

  • tax the supermarkets. get over it Nigel!

  • Cheers Nigel, common sense from a politician, a rare thing in this NuLabour dominated mess of a country. My vote is for UKIP and the restoration of choice.

  • Fcuk pubs, I'm a smoker, they did bugger all for us, I've spent tens of thousands in pubs and those pubs showed no loyalty whatsoever.

  • why is there a war on pubs?

  • Yes, a pub is like the parliament, mostly dominated by males ! Time more women should enter parliament and pubs.

  • Sarah, I can't vote in Britain but you can. Vote for the liberal democrats since they are most female friendly, all other parties are like our Republicans, they are sexist.

  • The Lib-Dhims are most wishy-washy bunch of non-entities ever to have miraculously gotten elected anywhere in the UK. The country would literally be history before the end of their first term. But at least they're "female friendly". Just look at Sarah Teather MP. Very nice person. If I ever needed to con anyone then she'd make a great choice. All the other Lib-Dhims aside, of course. Pathetic.

  • Looking at your profile, you seem to be nothing more than a radical feminist lefty who delights in spitting out hatred against aspects of western culture which you perceive as being "chauvinist" or "arrogant" .

Kindly take you hate-mongering elsewhere please.
