  • i've started a pacific page on bandcamp with the idea of documenting the things we did and offering them as free downloads.. I've posted Barnoon Hill (and the original super 8 vid I made) I've got good intentions about uploading more but never quite get time to do it.. it will happen one day.

  • @shriftspace That's brilliant! I'll have a look around for it and get a link out to everyone :]

  • lyrics are "what in the hell does it mean, jets firing down on the stream, lifeless you lie as you dream, I thought of this so much before, as though I see sense I'm not sure, sometime I'll learn how to search clear. Take a boat and sail once round the world, chart all the hates and the gains and start your life over again, the truth is much more than one time, the falling of trees cuts and winds and saves us the sea for the wise. "the decision was taken in order to protect British lives" dennis

  • lovely that people still respond to this.. its possibly the most enduring thing we did.. (apart from the nasty sounds from our little synth). The lyrics for this were written moments before recording so they kind of surprised me too which was nice. I love found sounds.. the short wave radio snippet provoked a moral dilemma in the studio .. was it a distress call .. was it bad taste to use it etc.. we found out much later that it was a kind of coded language used by the east german stasi!

  • @shriftspace Thanks for getting in contact, Dennis! It's great that you can tell us about the song...I'm still really moved by it. Out of all the creation bands, Pacific always stuck in my mind.

  • @shriftspace And maybe radio snippet works. The fact that it's coded possibly means that it doesn't matter what's being said, just how it makes you feel to hear it.

  • Wow, Doing it for the kids. That takes me back abit. There is a cd 'Inference' on Creation.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this. Been searching for this song for years... :-)

  • fantastic tune, just beautiful

  • One of my favourite ever songs! It always seems to remind me of a rainy schoolday evening... maybe a Tuesday, in the late 1980s.

  • A lost classic. I googled around for information on Pacific and found zilch. There's a contemporary electro folk band called Tunng who remind me a bit of Pacific. I did ask them if Pacific was an influence but they said not. I once played this song at a student indie night in Basingstoke. I note that it is all guys who seem to like this song...shame its not better remembered.

  • The quote included in the song "The decision was taken in order to preserve British lives" is indeed about the Falklands, It was a statement in defence of the sinking of the General Belgrano in a commons debate by Michael Heseltine I think. The British navy had set up a 200 mile exclusion zone around the Falklands and even though the Belgrano was outside this zone a british battleship torpedoed and sank it killing everyone on board. The most beautiful, mournful song most people will never hear

  • One of the most beautiful songs of the eighties, perhaps one of the most beautiful pop songs ever... I've been looking for information on this band for ages. Can anyone help?

    cheers!

  • I don't know much about them myself. I don't think many people do! I was hoping one of the members would get non youtube and see this and tell us a bit of history about it!

Apparently there was a video for 'Barnoon hill'

  • @chrislocal

creation records released their work on 12 inch single

and on 7 inch ep.all pop masterpieces

    from in those days fanzine

    back then

  • I bought doing it for the kids last year, being 17 it was pretty new to me, but I love it. Try and get your hands on their album!

  • There was a video for 'barnoon hill' - if i am correct. 'Inference', was the title of the LP. They always looked great, and special i think, and even more in the context of Creation records: like Love Corporation, they were different and slightly apart..

  • a video? wow! is it on youtube at all?

  • Isn't this about the Falklands? The phrase "the decision was taken in order to protect British lives" comes from a commons debate on the sinking of The Belgrano.

  • I'm not sure...I never knew the phrase was from the falklands. I just didn't think the first line had much to do with it because northern ireland was more street fighting.

Maybe it's just about war itself maybe, I'll change it about! haha

  • I've always thought he said "just falling down on this stream", meaning a sense of drowning but i could be wrong... :-)

  • It's quite hard to tell! I was trying to copy the the lyrics out by listening to it on my i pod, but some of the things he says are impossible to understand really.

I think the first line is clearer when the woman repeats it at the end.

  • Oh you wonderful person you.

I still wonder what happened to this lot, any idea? 2 glorious 12 inches, 1 flexi and then they were gone. Weren't they?
