My dad was U.S. Navy Armed Guard, he served on the SS Bayou Chico, SS Lafayette, SS Egbert Benson,SS John W. Powell and the SS Chadd Ford from 1942-1946 in the European theater and the Asiatic theater.
They were too slow even to catch "KMS Tirptiz", but "USS Washington" indeed could have pounched Tirptiz good if 1 vs 1, bu certainly not "HMS Duke Of York"

Fuck, HMS "Duke of York" & USS "Washington" were far enough to destroy the "Tirpitz"!!! Why they didn't do it???
