  • i just bought one

  • At least you don't have to have a boot disk for this, unlike some other Ensoniq synthesizers.

  • @douro20 the boot disks were usually for the sequencers.

  • Another nice demo. I loved my SQ-80. You could create exact replicas of sounds from Arps, Moogs, and the like. I recreated many famous sounds on mine, including the lead sound from Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang, which was originally made on an Arp 2600. Those Ensoniq synths are bad ass.

  • hah wow I have this. I wonder how much I can get for it I even have the soundcart too!!!

  • i saw somebody selling a ensoniq esq-1 for $450 including bose speakers, keyboardstand, footpedal, and voice 80 volume 1 cartridge .is that a good deal or is it expensive??what do you think?

  • are you playing two different ensoniq esq"s ?.i saw the cartridge on the left side when you was playing then i saw the cartridge on the right side when you was playing

  • paid 150 for my last one and made this....

    esq1998

  • I truly love this synth...Epic sounds!

  • Great demo. I've been using ESQ1's since 1987.

The "Poorman's PPG" comment is very accurate as the ESQ is a digital analogue hybrid like the PPG - Digital waveforms going through an analogue Filter and Amp. The sonic character of the ESQ sits somewhere between my Prophet 08 and Waldorf Q. Mine is v3.53 so has hidden waves. Very flexible and out-Matrixes a Matrix 6 IMHO. Can sound very DX at times too. The Air Choir sold me. Have to demo mine some time

  • i have an sq80 and man its sick..[its a souped-up version of the esq1]

  • Does it have midi, in,out, thru?

  • @DieselProductions11 in and out, no through.

  • @stevoper59 ...I thought the same thing!

  • This Synthi is wonderful, but i am looking for it over 3 years, but cannot find it....too expensive.

  • @jopachelbel expensive? On ebay Germany you will get one for 250 euros.

  • @jopachelbel Why not try the Sq8l vsti plugin? I believe its very, very close to the real deal and free.

  • @maccagrabme Wow I just downloaded that and it is probably the best retro synth vsti ever! Thanks for making it known!

  • I had the opportunity to pick up one of these at my local guitar center for $150 but it had one broken key and no cartridge. Guess i could've gotten it fixed...

  • What's the polyphony?

  • @The7thINFANTRY 8 voice polyphonic

  • @AnalogAudio1 thats pretty much for the 86s:O:O thats pretty sick:O

  • @The7thINFANTRY 8 voices, but with 3 oscillators per voice, that makes 24 oscillators in total.

  • I've got the module version (ESQm) - great sounding, even today. Not an all-rounder, but a nice utility player.

  • nice video! love the sound of those patches. esq 1 is the only piece of equipment that I really regretted selling, and so now have an esq1 and a sq80 with the disk drive storage
