Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
Ableton are a business that needs to pay its staff and all other overheads and make a profit. They have to charge what they charge to stay in business. Maybe it would be cheaper if more people bought it instead of illegally downloading it!!!!!
That's odd, because Digidesign is also a company, and I can get an upgrade for my Pro-Tools a hell of a lot cheaper than an upgrade for my Live. The logic would be that an upgrade would be inexpensive since it's for people who have already purchased a previous version.
I can go back 15 years and remember. LOL! Hell, I can go back 20. I still have an old SQ1 in my closet. I think I paid like $1300 for that dinosaur. :D
does anyone know if this thing can conrol the beat repeat machine? Also would it make since to use this with a trigger finger or can this thing just replace it all together. Advice please =)
all midi controllers can control the beat repeat even your computer keyboard can.... the trigger finger is velocity sensitivity pads its a completely different thing but again it depends on what you are using the triggerfinger for
It's cool. Offhand I'd say 8.5 outta 10, but you can plus or minus one either way. a) I have a software controller (for another product), b) the Korg padKontrol which I think of as a drum pad (but...controls MIDI, can control effects) and c) a Yahama synthesizer.
Sitting at my desk I don't need anything else (except a friend who plays guitar and a woman who sings).
It looks very robust, but not an instrument, right? A software controller. With a good version of cool software.
?its an instrument in the same way a akai sample like the mpc is....its your imagination that restricts you....you could have clips that play notes in a scale grid or drum pads....these are buttons but in ableton you can set it up to trigger like drums....granted without velocity but then every controlelr has drum pads these days so if you want that you can go get somthing else :) for much cheaper.
i hear you about the woman that sings...i play guitar so i would probably need that too else
this is one of the best ableton-dedicated controllers ever made. not much knobs but you can change channels and you 16 knobs are assigned automatically to the track.
this plus a vestax vci (or vcm, dont remember now) 600 'd be the shit !!
anyways, with this one its more than enough for me
its the only ableton dedicated controller as far as i know.... why would you need the vestax? isnt that a dj controller? the only thing that has that ableton would use is the corssfader which this akai has
that vestax is an ableton dedicated controller too. The only problem with this one, is if you need to tweak knobs of 2 o 3 channels at the same time, both for eq'ing or effects
because there are a lot of cases in which you could need it, and since you will realize it "on the fly" its not possible to cover all macro controls.
Ex: lowering bass freqs on channel 1 while increasing bass in channel 2 and adjust a bit some effect to make a smooth transition, so you cant have macro controls. you need a separate knob for each taskt
Trust me there isn't a controller on earth with enough buttons so a little compromise is the way, every control on this is programmable with CC at least so you could just quickly midi learn the two controls to two pots of your choice then get on with it :D in my case i normally live mix through a mixing desk but i dont normally use ableton like a dj program i use it like a electronic puppet orchestra if that makes any sense so i guess i have a whole bunch of different problems haha
understood. oh and btw, do you have idea if once you quickmapped the knobs you need, and once you finish tweaking the knobs you needed, can go back to the default automap instead of fixed cc ?
not sure but i just tested it out with my novation sl zero and basically you just delete the controller after your done and it regains control over what it set to...it should work the same hopefully

@snakeandbake yea your right its not even close the launch pad however is..
in either case both apc40 and the launch pad pale in comparison to any of the monome/livid/audrinome's
swarm69 1 year ago
is this better than monodeck 2?
i don't think so...
