Read the book "At all Costs" by Sam Moses. It's an exciting read about the mission to get a convoy through to resupply Malta and the sacrifice of men and ships it took to do it. Faith, Hope and Charity were known to the ground crew as Blood Sweat and Tears.
Faith, Hope and Charity, 3 out of date planes stood alone against the onslaught of enemy planes to defend Malta untill supplies arrived by sea and reinforcements by air, they defended successfully and only Charity fell. that was a true miracle
Without the stand of Malta Erwin Rommel would have received enough supplies to conquer North Africa and reach the Suez Canal the jugular vein of the British Empire.
Yes indeed a great many brave Maltese men fought and died in defence of their home. God bless them and those mebers of the Commonwealth who fought bravely too.
Can anybody tell me why on so many channels/ sites that involve Malta GC and Britain some stupid Italian wants to trash the affinity between us. Many British have family in Malta that must be obvious to any silly wop after the fact that the British were in Malta for 200 years and I need say no more. They have Lampedusa now they want Malta, well they tried 67 years ago and failed badly so to every wop that thinks Malta wants you I say PISS OFF.
So many people these days are still fascists at heart...they can even look at Hitler's regime and not see evil that was worth fighting and dying in defiance of. Well done Malta; I love this movie and I love my British heritage.
Many members of the Royal Air Force died defending Malta in WW 2 - Many are buried in Kalkara Naval Cemetery - May they rest in peace They are Remembered!!!!
Malta was besieged not once, but twice, and both times she resisted bravely. Salute.

@farmerned6 : Totally agree ! And one of the gripping parts of the film, based on the true incoming of the "Ohio".
