Wow I am surprised by this!!! After hearing some of her shocking previous Lucia's, I ha written her off in this role. But some her sostenuto on top notes was stunning, and all her top notes are glorious in this!!! Brava!!! She's no Sutherland, but don't forget lots of great lyric sops have tackled bel canto roles: Tebaldi had Violetta, Freni had Elvira and Norina, Scotto had Lucia, Violetta and Amina. I think Netrebko can have Lucia!

I think this performance overall is alright, nothing special about it. However, I must say I much prefer Netrebko to Dessay and Damrau when it comes to the final high note. I don't much like the latter two when it comes to high notes in Lucia. Massis probably has the best high notes of the latest Met Lucias, though.
