MBZ has given us confusing model designations through the years. For example:
Some 280 series sedans actually used 4.5L V8 engines (referring to the approximate cubic inch displacement) rather than the 2.8L I-6 engines.
In the UK, the very first 300D sedans (1974-76) were actually badged as "240D 3.0," no doubt referring to the 3.0L I-5 diesel, which is just a 2.4L I-4 diesel with another cylinder added on. Here in the USA, the 300D was always known as such.
300d is 3.0 Turbo Diesel ? 2.5 is 250 Diesel
