@UseUrHead503 I agree... up to a point. Stalin in announcing his first Five Year Plan was almost clairvoyant. I believe the speech was given in 27 or 28 after he had "consolidated" power. The plan called for massive industrialization, and that it be placed far east of Moscow. Cities like Magnitogorsk popped up like mushrooms. This greatly assisted the USSR in defeating Hitler. An Information Based economy depends on just that. The Soviet model worked ok for a small number of projects identified in the last 5 year plan, but its flaws began to show. When USSR became a 1st world country after WWII the people had better living(mostly mediocre living..not rich..not poor) and the NKVD/KGB stopped being abductors. And this video is showing the good aspects of the Soviet Union, its reality, but they rarely show the atrocities they committed in WWII.

He persecuted many of the USSRs greatest minds and turned many people against the state. Khrushchev was a better leader, had much more respect for people, and focused well on improving quality of life, particularly cultural pursuits and civil rights. He also achieved a lot on the international stage in getting NATO Jupiters out of Turkey and Italy, as well as new allies.

The Sovjets were making spaceships just to 'beat the Americans' and sped huge amounts of money on it while lost of Russian people were poor and starving. Thats what i call a bad government. I think the US tried to beat the USSR and not the other way around. While the USSR focused on practical problems, the US went for national prestige. Hence, the US sent men to the Moon while USSR focused on building a space station for research. The USSR also built a Space Shuttle, but since it was not economically viable, they went back to the Soyuz. You are correct w.r.t. entrepeneurs.

Everyone in communism was satisfied, we all had TVs, cars, and phones. It wasn't that bad. @UseUrHead503 I agree... up to a point. Stalin in announcing his first Five Year Plan was almost clairvoyant. I believe the speech was given in 27 or 28 after he had "consolidated" power. The plan called for massive industrialization, and that it be placed far east of Moscow. Cities like Magnitogorsk popped up like mushrooms. This greatly assisted the USSR in defeating Hitler. But the human price was huge. I'm not sure if it was Communism or Stalinism that can take credit. (cont)

@UseUrHead503 The problems arise when economies enter the next stage and become 'post industrial'. Information based economies and what is commonly identified as "communism" is a bad fit. An Information Based economy depends on just that. The Soviet model worked ok for a small number of projects identified in the last 5 year plan, but its flaws began to show. Information must be allowed to flow freely. This problem is starting to show up in China. It too will likely hit a wall. (cont)

China is gaining strength because it is the industrial power now, but that is past history in the post industrial world. Corruption is rampant, and the free exchange of ideas is discouraged. Google began with a bunch of brilliant kids meeting in a garage. I would remind posters that Communism is an economic system, not a political one. They were both masters of Propaganda; but it's easier to control people who believe they are free than by force. And that country had survived... but probably not for long with the insurmountable debt, greed, and general unrest. When USSR became a 1st world country after WWII the people had better living(mostly mediocre living..not rich..not poor) and the NKVD/KGB stopped being abductors. Lenin never saw the Soviet Union he wanted and Stalin is doing what he could to stop Nazism from spreading across the USSR. And this video is showing the good aspects of the Soviet Union, its reality, but they rarely show the atrocities they committed in WWII.

Lenin and Stalin pushed Socialism forward, Kruscev opened the doors to the bourgeois reaction. The reason was that the productive forces were not enough developed worldwide. He persecuted many of the USSRs greatest minds and turned many people against the state. Khrushchev was a better leader, had much more respect for people, and focused well on improving quality of life, particularly cultural pursuits and civil rights. He also achieved a lot on the international stage in getting NATO Jupiters out of Turkey and Italy, as well as new allies.

I think the US tried to beat the USSR and not the other way around. While the USSR focused on practical problems, the US went for national prestige. Hence, the US sent men to the Moon while USSR focused on building a space station for research. The USSR also built a Space Shuttle, but since it was not economically viable, they went back to the Soyuz. You are correct w.r.t. entrepeneurs.

I live in Australia. In my opinion, Russia (and the entire Unites Socialist Republic) was a great country for building itself up, not like America who relies almost solely on the stockmarket...

The problem with all video material from a country like the USSR, is that the only ones with the ability to film video material, also have a desire to depict only the positive side.
This doesn't show how millions were tortured and killed under Stalin. Nor does it show people starving to death in the 20s, when basic infrastructure had collapsed and nobody did anything to it. It doesn't show systematic oppression of religious or other groups...
Thank God the USSR is no more!

This movie was filmed when everything in ussr was good or can you explain why didn't i see all killed native americans in spider-man 3 the movie??? or why Transformer or any disney movies dont show us about bombing japan towns?

When you want to show-off to the world your country, or to your citiziens, you want rightly to show just the good side. And remember... since 1953 USSR is no more totalitarian, just oppressive :).

So when u make a video of the US be sure to include how you killed off 80% of the native population and how u were lynching your Negros for 100 years. Thank god u don't know what u are talking about!

To many people believe in propaganda. Probably you never had your family taken away to Siberia, just because they have bought some land few years before. Soviet Union never benefited the regular people. Classless? With the top elite getting fat on your hard work, and everyone in communist party being superior to you... Hardly.

Does my previous comment contain any communism remarks? I wasn't referring to communism therefore. But to be frank, some statements, that Karl Marx makes in his research are very questionable.. Also, considering, that Soviet Union, or any other country never achieved the communism, how could we state, that it is even slightly possible? People like to think about utopias, but maybe we should rather think about something, that works?

All these systems are one and the same in their ideal. The Cold War was fought not over the ideals that were the same, but for economic purposes. For overindulgence and luxury at the expense of others. That is what the Cold War stood for, and what America stands for.
