Anyone who comments here in favor of Hill or Irvine has obviously never led a race and encountered about-to-be-lapped traffic that refuses to get out of the way. Completely unprofessional.
Você chegou a assistir alguma vez F1?
lol, I would have been so fucking proud for pissing off Senna, I mean, COME ON, it was Ayrton fucking Senna da Silva, and Irvine got him so fucking angry, he may be the biggest troll in the history of Formula 1.
He must have a lot of histories to tell to his grandkids: "you know, I remember the day I pissed off the greatest F1 driver ever, he punched me, I fell off the table claiming insurance, shit was hysterical".

Senna one of the most unfair racers of all time. He wanted everything HIS way. What a rude egomaniac. Senna did all kinds of dangerous and unfair things to other drivers that tried to overtake him. @longde "Piquet was a totally clean driver inside the track". Except when he was punching and kicking other drivers on it. At least Senna had the good grace to keep his girly bitchfights to the briefing room. ;-)
@longde Please. One thing is to be aggressive and other unfair. The must unfair driver of all the F1 in the all history every body knows who is. And Irvine by far was not a star in F1.
I don´t understand why was Senna pissed at Irvine and why he wasn´t pissed at Hill. Hill held him up quite badly, much worse than Irvine - and he was a lap down as well. Eddie was racing Hill for position - he first let Senna go and then he felt Senna is slow and unlaped himself because he didn´t want to lose contact with Hill. Really double standards there by Senna, sadly.
I think had it been a dry race then Irvine should get a ban for this, the rule is you can't unlap yourself to the lead cars, however as it had rained this sort of wipes out the performance benefits from the Williams and McLaren, makes it a level playing field and as well as that they're on different tyres so in my opinion Irvine had every right to unlap himself.
He cost Senna a few seconds and Hill but it was still in my opinion a legal move, great job from Irvine on his debut I believe.
in my opinion, when your on the track everyone goes at their own pace, qualifying reflects that, but, when you pass a slower driver, they can get a tow from you and drive at your pace, maybe irvine just realised that he could go as quick at the front two cars with the tyre choice he had on at the time, frustrating for senna being being an extra car length away from hill.
I agree with Senna. Irvine was LAPPED. He's acting completely out of line. If he's so fast, why was he lapped? He was behaving like a jack-ass and was dangerous to everyone else. If Senna and Damon were slow here, it's because they had to avoid a collision. Once passed they passed Irvine, he faded quickly into the background.
Senna couldn't get lap Hill because they were on different tyres...Plus Hill probably wanted to slow down Senna so Prost would catch him. Senna was blundering about interfering with Irvine's race with Damon so Eddie just went past him and attacked Hill...entirely justified really. I'm just surprised Eddie didn't punch him back when Senna hit him...Senna wouldn't strike you as being the toughest nut.
so senna punched him so that next time he must remember to pit for slicks! but irvine really had a serious atitude problem he was way too cocky, i,m suprised he only got punched once
Irvine couldn't pit for slicks because team-mate Barrichello was in the pit before him, so Irvine couldn't pit right then because it would waste time. as It turned out, Barrichello finished 5th and Irvine 6th.
Nice maneuver from Irvine, he looked inspired, lol.
But what was interesting to see was that Brundle's incident (the loose wheel) happened right in front of the incoming trio of Hill-Senna-Irvine; you can see the loose wheel on the right side of the track on Hill's rear onboard camera. But you only notice it after you watch Brundle's replay later on the video.
i'm so glad senna punched irvine. he'll only be remembered for that anyhow the loser.. blue flags are blue flags he was only trying to piss senna off because he hated senna, irvine lost the f3 title to senna and as a result of that only got into f1 much later than senna did as a direct consequence of senna getting the 82 williams test instead of him
How utterly stupid can you be? Irvine and Senna had never competed in the same race until that race. Irvine competed first in Formula Ford 1983, at that time Senna was in Formula 3. 1984 Senna was in Formula 1, but Irvine didn't move up to Formula 3 until 1988...what I hate is stupid people, unfortunately the world is overpopulated by those pests.
first you make a utterly stupid comment and then you say "Oh, i'll have to check but fuck you anyway!!" LOL loser! anyone that knows about motor racing knows these 2 never raced against eachother at lower levels. your just a plastic senna fan
you are right i made a mistake they never raced and thats that, i put it in writing so it can be next to your comment, at least i admit it, got mixed up with martin brundel
@Absinthyside You seem to know what you are talking about. I know nothing about F1, so can you describe to me what exactly is happening in this incident in layman's terms?
The problem was that Irvine was racing Hill and for whatever reason, Senna couldn't be bothered to overtake him. That's why Irvine unlapped himself. It was disrespectful but gutsy at the same time. No other driver would have the balls to do something like this, especially not in today's Formula 1 world.
hahaha...Go Eddie...Class man...F1 needs more loonies like him.
Why are people calling him a moron here....he was just racing like a racing driver should. get stuck in. he wasn't out for a sunday drive....it was his job.
lol, Eddie is da man!! Just imagine how pissed Senna was seeing Eddie passing him, "Excuse me?! Irvine, a backmarker and a rookie no less, dare pass me, the race leader and 3-time champion on top of that??!! WTF??!!" HAHAHAHA

Irvine was a back marker and he did something very stupid overtaking Senna, who was putting one lap on him. I just don´t know how Irvine wasn´t black flagged and banned from formula 1 with a such dangerous driving. And this episode finished with Senna punching Irvine´s head in the end of the race...
Yes he was a backmarker but he had pace.....and sponsors pay the dollars....why wouuld he keep his car up there if it could complete....ALSO HE IS A RACER.....Senna was a dirty racer and took many people out he should have shut his mouth as people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones!!!!
Yes, but Senna was vulgar and coward: he punched Irvine but not Hill. And Schumacher (who never punched anyone) was the worst enemy of brazilian and british fans and media (remember how were viewd the non violent conflicts against Hill and Coulthard) because of being simply the best.
Plus, as you have hopefully noticed, he has "overtaken" Senna (and subsequently Hill) just because Hill and Senna slowed down due to Brundle's wheel failure!!! Irvine should NEVER have entered Formula 1 - he was a true DISGRACE to the sport (nearly like Schumacher - coincidentally a teammate in a team coincidentally a DISGRACE itself!!!). I love this season, because Ferrari drivers actually race each other!
Unbelievably stupid behavior of a BLUE-FLAGGED backmarker exploiting the TEMPORARY advantage of different tyres and RECKLESSLY interfering with the REAL drivers. Stupid Irvine - the troublemaker... :((((
Irvine was not in the wrong, they didn't have blue flags in those days. Senna didn't look like he was going to overtake Hill, Irv was racing Hill so he unlapped himself to race Hill. Senna was out of order for smacking Irv in the face after the race, it's a pity there aren't more drivers with a don't give a damn attitude like Irv's. He later got race bans for turning up to a disciplinary FIA meeting in Jeans! Nice one Eddie!!
and just while im here, its actually been said that the reason senna didnt bother his arse about lapping hill was because he wanted to help his future williams team mate from being beaten by a rookie. and for the record, irvine and senna buried the hatchet during preseason testing in 94.
yup, i would do the same, he was as fast as senna and hill, a driver should leave the road clear if they are slower, but in this case he did what he did eheh, good driving irvine ;)
Montoya was like Irvine. Montoya wasn't in F1 when Irvine started.
In that respect, I don't think he did "whatever he wants, regardless".. I think it was more a case of being hungry for the win, and willing to take chances that other drivers would have been more cautious with.
Like Irvine, Montoya calmed down a good deal.
I don't see how Irvine could be called a prick any more or any less than dozens of other F1 drivers, past and present.
Didn't achieve anything? Irvine was within 2 points of winning the championship in 1999. Under today's system, he would have won it. Both drivers have won races. I'd hardly call that not achieving anything.
On top of that, all Eddie had to do was finish ahead of Mika to be champ or scuhey finish in front of Mika. Schuey had pole at Suzuka and mysteriously developed wheel spin off the line and kept going backwards. Wheelspin my arse, as much as i like schuey, i will always believe that he came second on purpose so that he could be Ferrari's next champ, not Irv.
Irvine is and have always been an idiot. Senna was one lap ahead and all he should do is to know what a blue flag means and so, took that fucking car out of their ways...
Read your F1 rulebook mate - its a "fucking" race. Irvinr was trying to 'race' other drivers. The blue flag rule wasn't clarified until after Senna had died in any case. Even besides that, Senna had overtaken Irvine (so that would be Irvine abiding with any current blue flag rule). That Irvine managed to re-take Senna was just Senna's bad luck or poor judgement.
Considering Senna was a lap faster then Irvine AND Hill, and as you can see Hill drove in a manner which prevented Senna from passing therefore Senna was unable to drive as fast as he could which is why Irvine got back in front. When you have LAPPED! someone, you wouldnt consider them TRYING to repass you while you are LAPPING the next guy. Irvine said to senna "well I passed you because you were going too slow" where senna replied "I was too slow? I LAPPED YOU!" followed by the punch. ;)
Where in the 1993 Championship Rules said that you can not pass the leaders ??? he is regaining his lap. In Suzuka instead of being one lap down after he passed , Irvine was 1:35.... down. This is a huge difference.
What do you mean by "The blue flag rule wasn't clarified until after Senna had died"?!? The Blue flag rule exists since Senna wasn't even a world champion.

Senna is the best of all times, no doubt. Irvine and Hill was unprofessionals, they should get out of the senna's way.

What people forget is that Hill and Irvine were a lap down (or nearly) in this race, they were racing each other and Senna was trying to lap them.
Irvine initially let Senna through, but then when Senna couldnt pass Hill, Irvine unlapped himself again.
In an interview Irvine said he was "laughing his head off in the car" when he repassed Senna and then almost got by Hill twice hahahaha.
Thats why Senna punched him after the race lol.

RenatoPegoretti 2 years ago
OpenWheelCrashes 2 years ago
Senna couldn't get lap Hill because they were on different tyres...Plus Hill probably wanted to slow down Senna so Prost would catch him. Senna was blundering about interfering with Irvine's race with Damon so Eddie just went past him and attacked Hill...entirely justified really. I'm just surprised Eddie didn't punch him back when Senna hit him...Senna wouldn't strike you as being the toughest nut.

so senna punched him so that next time he must remember to pit for slicks! but irvine really had a serious atitude problem he was way too cocky, i,m suprised he only got punched once
kouzouka 3 years ago 28
Irvine couldn't pit for slicks because team-mate Barrichello was in the pit before him, so Irvine couldn't pit right then because it would waste time. as It turned out, Barrichello finished 5th and Irvine 6th.

@kouzouka Dont be so boring - Eddie Ervine was always a character. Just what the sport needed.

But you only notice it after you watch Brundle's replay later on the video.

i'm so glad senna punched irvine. he'll only be remembered for that anyhow the loser.. blue flags are blue flags he was only trying to piss senna off because he hated senna, irvine lost the f3 title to senna and as a result of that only got into f1 much later than senna did as a direct consequence of senna getting the 82 williams test instead of him
kouzouka 3 years ago
How utterly stupid can you be? Irvine and Senna had never competed in the same race until that race. Irvine competed first in Formula Ford 1983, at that time Senna was in Formula 3. 1984 Senna was in Formula 1, but Irvine didn't move up to Formula 3 until 1988...what I hate is stupid people, unfortunately the world is overpopulated by those pests.

Irvine was a back marker and he did something very stupid overtaking Senna, who was putting one lap on him. I just don´t know how Irvine wasn´t black flagged and banned from formula 1 with a such dangerous driving. And this episode finished with Senna punching Irvine´s head in the end of the race...
sennorsennor 4 years ago
Yes he was a backmarker but he had pace.....and sponsors pay the dollars....why wouuld he keep his car up there if it could complete....ALSO HE IS A RACER.....Senna was a dirty racer and took many people out he should have shut his mouth as people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones!!!!
RORYALGATE 4 years ago
Because Senna is leading the race, and Hill is holding him up, it's not for a position! listen to the first seconds of the video
Sakkelien 4 years ago
Yes, but Senna was vulgar and coward: he punched Irvine but not Hill. And Schumacher (who never punched anyone) was the worst enemy of brazilian and british fans and media (remember how were viewd the non violent conflicts against Hill and Coulthard) because of being simply the best.
JMRRF 3 years ago
A highly contentious comment, but backed up by the record books.
deeb1978 3 years ago
Plus, as you have hopefully noticed, he has "overtaken" Senna (and subsequently Hill) just because Hill and Senna slowed down due to Brundle's wheel failure!!! Irvine should NEVER have entered Formula 1 - he was a true DISGRACE to the sport (nearly like Schumacher - coincidentally a teammate in a team coincidentally a DISGRACE itself!!!). I love this season, because Ferrari drivers actually race each other!
jakubkrcma 4 years ago
Unbelievably stupid behavior of a BLUE-FLAGGED backmarker exploiting the TEMPORARY advantage of different tyres and RECKLESSLY interfering with the REAL drivers. Stupid Irvine - the troublemaker... :((((

WLF46 5 years ago
Irvine was not in the wrong, they didn't have blue flags in those days. Senna didn't look like he was going to overtake Hill, Irv was racing Hill so he unlapped himself to race Hill. Senna was out of order for smacking Irv in the face after the race, it's a pity there aren't more drivers with a don't give a damn attitude like Irv's. He later got race bans for turning up to a disciplinary FIA meeting in Jeans! Nice one Eddie!!

and just while im here, its actually been said that the reason senna didnt bother his arse about lapping hill was because he wanted to help his future williams team mate from being beaten by a rookie. and for the record, irvine and senna buried the hatchet during preseason testing in 94.
donathandorko 5 years ago
yup, i would do the same, he was as fast as senna and hill, a driver should leave the road clear if they are slower, but in this case he did what he did eheh, good driving irvine ;)

Irvine is just a prick.
But that's why I like him, he is like Montoya, he will do whatever he wants, regardless of the circumstances
SennaAlonso 5 years ago
Montoya was like Irvine. Montoya wasn't in F1 when Irvine started.
In that respect, I don't think he did "whatever he wants, regardless".. I think it was more a case of being hungry for the win, and willing to take chances that other drivers would have been more cautious with.
Like Irvine, Montoya calmed down a good deal.
I don't see how Irvine could be called a prick any more or any less than dozens of other F1 drivers, past and present.
Setanta747 5 years ago
Yeah thats why they both didn't achieve anything and both arent in F1 anymore. Enough said. =)
koruki 5 years ago
Didn't achieve anything? Irvine was within 2 points of winning the championship in 1999. Under today's system, he would have won it. Both drivers have won races. I'd hardly call that not achieving anything.
'Nuff said.
Setanta747 5 years ago 2
On top of that, all Eddie had to do was finish ahead of Mika to be champ or scuhey finish in front of Mika. Schuey had pole at Suzuka and mysteriously developed wheel spin off the line and kept going backwards. Wheelspin my arse, as much as i like schuey, i will always believe that he came second on purpose so that he could be Ferrari's next champ, not Irv.
GazzaAyrton 4 years ago
the crazy irvine...
digitalmp3player 5 years ago
Irvine is and have always been an idiot. Senna was one lap ahead and all he should do is to know what a blue flag means and so, took that fucking car out of their ways...
silentman2006 5 years ago
Read your F1 rulebook mate - its a "fucking" race. Irvinr was trying to 'race' other drivers. The blue flag rule wasn't clarified until after Senna had died in any case. Even besides that, Senna had overtaken Irvine (so that would be Irvine abiding with any current blue flag rule). That Irvine managed to re-take Senna was just Senna's bad luck or poor judgement.
Setanta747 5 years ago
Considering Senna was a lap faster then Irvine AND Hill, and as you can see Hill drove in a manner which prevented Senna from passing therefore Senna was unable to drive as fast as he could which is why Irvine got back in front. When you have LAPPED! someone, you wouldnt consider them TRYING to repass you while you are LAPPING the next guy. Irvine said to senna "well I passed you because you were going too slow" where senna replied "I was too slow? I LAPPED YOU!" followed by the punch. ;)
koruki 5 years ago 3
As I said - down to Senna's bad luck or poor judgement.
Setanta747 5 years ago
Where in the 1993 Championship Rules said that you can not pass the leaders ??? he is regaining his lap. In Suzuka instead of being one lap down after he passed , Irvine was 1:35.... down. This is a huge difference.

Setanta747 4 years ago
What do you mean by "The blue flag rule wasn't clarified until after Senna had died"?!? The Blue flag rule exists since Senna wasn't even a world champion.
LouieGee 4 years ago 2
doubt it. if that was the case, arnoux and grouillard (sp?) would have got more disqualifications
paolorossifan2006 3 years ago
There is no room for "doubts" here. If you really knew something about F1 you would know that. A blue flag is a blue flag since the 80's.
Senna was so pissed off with Irvine just because that, he was the leader and a moron like Irvine could've ruined his race.
LouieGee 3 years ago 6
silentman2006 5 years ago
