Being an old pilot and the only thing I ever flew with twin tails was an aircoupe I don't understand some of the pics. ? What cause the rudders to both move inboard at the same time? I've flown leading edge drops, flaps, zap flaps, speed brakes and others but still this was the question in my mind.
The Super Hornet brings affordable stealth, long range AESA radar (ability to track ground/air targets simultaneously), low maintenance requirements (improves sortie rate), helmet mounted sights (to guide AIM-9X sidewinders which have +60G maneuverability), and a good combat radius of nearly 1000km!! Oh yeah, it also looks good.
Upcoming upgrades include shoulder mounted conformal fuel tanks (CFT), and stealthy weapon pods (EWP).
@bromfieldjw im impressed, you certainly know your Super Hornet & you have a lot of respect for it..most people underestimate the Super Hornet but infact it is one of the best & most versatile fighters in service today, the other being the Dassault Rafale..sure the F-22 is the best air superiority fighter but its no where near as versatile as the Super Hornet or the Rafale.thanks for your excellent comment.
@f39eagle2 Thank you. I admire the F-18 Super Hornet because it is one of the few US military programs that has provided American tax payers with good value for the money.
Case in point, the F-35 JSF was great on paper 10 years ago as a "low cost F-22", but cost over runs and delays have pushed the per unit price tag the the range of $160 million per aircraft! This makes a good case to argue why the Department of Defense simply did not keep the F-22 Raptor production line open!!!
@f39eagle2 You only mention the Rafale and the Super Hornet.... what's wrong with the F-16? The Block 60 variant also has the AESA radar, low maintenance requirements (only one engine), helmet mounted sights (also with the AIM-9X), and the CFT's. How is it not just as capable? Or are you only referring to carrier-compatible aircraft?
@agilefalcon16 The F-16 is probably the best single engine jet fighter ever built.it is certainly very versatile & cheap to maintain.its also a very good strike fighter as proven by the Israeli Air Force.it was even more accurate than both the F-111 & the Sepecat Jaguar in a simulated bombing exercise in England during the cold war.(both these aircraft were dedicated strike bombers).yes i was referring to the Rafale & the Super Hornet as being the best carrier compatible aircraft.
@f39eagle2 Ah ok, I see what you meant now. But wow, didn't know that bit about the exercise between the F-111, the Jaguar, and the F-16. That is very interesting. Awesome video by the way. Really good song choice for it as well. The Super Hornet is truly a remarkable aircraft.
@JOHNNYROTTONish so? it landed on the carrier didn't it? and besides, did you see the AoA and sink rate? I'd say that was more the landing and less the plane
@nestea3963 Because despite our problems we are an intellegent, industrious nation who also prospers by helping other people around the world grow and prosper.
@Amar7605 Intelligent? No, just no. The guys at the top manipulating the population are intelligent, but not the average peon American. I'll be proven right when they either elect Romney or Obama thinking things will change if either of them are president.
@nestea3963 Because you are a total IDIOT, you will never know why we are successful (but never perfect) as a nation . You are totally consumed with the idea of who does and does not have money.
i luv f14 its the best plane in their age but now that plane its the best 4.5 gen multirole especially the F model its can do almost everithing an outmaneuver almost all the others planes in the world in a cheaper way soon navy would have F35C but i prefer the superhornet F prefered over the Eagles an the Falcons
Your all wrong the most beautiful and the most versatile fighter is The F-14 Tomcat, but dumb-ass politicians scrapped the funding. screw the f-18 superfag.
Nevertheless, this is one of the most beautiful fighters I know of and I'm sure it fulfills its purpose extremely well. Not that great for export, but fits into the US Air force, Marine and Navy perfectly. Glad to hear that the Growler will remain even after the F-35 Lightning II enters service, replacing the F-18's
@TheAustin007powers Please read the comment I replied to. They said "[the F/A-18] fits into the US Air Force...perfectly." Trust me on this, the U.S. Air Force does not operate F-18s! The Navy and Marines do operate it but the Air Force operates F-15s, F-16s, A-10s, F-22s and soon the F-35A as our attack/fighter aircraft. Please draw down and check your facts and the context I used in my previous post.
@TheAustin007powers Calm down princess! You're going to make your little face have a breakout if you get too stressed. Know what, you probably do know more about the F/A-18 than I do. Knowledge isn't just what "you" know, it's about what you can learn too. I've got access to pick the brains of some of the best aeronautical engineers who have worked on skunkwork projects and any other airframe you can think of. Do not get in a fight with a member of the U.S. Air Force, you'll just seem dumb.
@TheAustin007powers The USAF does not operate the F/A-18. In the 1980's the USAF had a competition between the YF-16 and the YF-17, the YF-16 won and the YF-17 was scrapped. Northrop Grumman and Mcdonald Douglas pick up the base design plans and recreated in, but changed some designs and added/removed features and created the F/A-18 to replace the A-7 and F-4.
@Spark02ify Either the Rafalé or the Gripen. Both of them being extremely versatile and have outperformed their rivals. I know both the Gripen and the Rafalé has beaten the Eurofighter and the F-16 in air-air, and Gripen has scored simulated kills on various exercises on amongst F-16, F-18A&C, F-15C, Mirage 2000, Harrier, MiG-29 and the Eurofighter without ever having been "killed" itself. The Gripen NG (E/F) will have basically the same equipment and performance as the Rafalé C & D.
" Super Hornet " !! the word "Super " says it all.its a Super Multi role fighter. Can do everything from dropping all types of bombs,Buddy refueling, to being one of the most agile Air to Air fighters, its a good hardened 4.5 gen fighter.its also super agile & Super reliable..It Has Super Strong landing gear & can take amazing punishment which is unmatched by other carrier fighters.
Being an old pilot and the only thing I ever flew with twin tails was an aircoupe I don't understand some of the pics. ? What cause the rudders to both move inboard at the same time? I've flown leading edge drops, flaps, zap flaps, speed brakes and others but still this was the question in my mind.
