I think Santa Claus should have been the one guest exempt from the dress code. The tuxedo is not a good look for him. He should have been allowed wear his proper Santa attire.
"I like this clinky glass" hahahhahaha, I'll admit, that made me chuckle...It was a nice speech, but there was no outright apology, I noticed....would have been a perfect time for it...theres a lot of history between the two countries, but hopefully, we can finally escape from the grip of history :)
the queen says british.. so that involves wales and scotland and northern ireland? no, its just england that caused relations to be fucked up, im proud to be british, but im by far so not proud to be english.
all the dublin people had to be kept out of her sight ,(ugly feckers) but when she came to the real capital "CORK"she roamed freely amongst the elite of the country.
That was visit was a disgrace!!! After all the years of conflict with the British and we just greet the queen with open arms. This shows that even if our country is in trouble economy wise we still turn to a country that has taken part of our freedom and country... And anyone who wants to challenge or critize my knowledge of irish history by all means do but bare in mind i know my irish history inside and out... The queens visit will show a whole new uprising from the I.R.A and to the garda and
@hobant1@rt7ify How can you compare the Queen of England and the commonwealth to some random southern boy? lol The Queen has been Head of State longer than he has been alive! You should remember, yes, obama is charming etc... but so are a lot of people. The Queen is unique.
well, i dont really know how to express my feelings. She was heartfelt. Our freedom fighters got us freedom and wanted peace, we got that. im republican to the vore and think Ireland should be united but unfortunately it wont happen. Let us protect our own and move forward. Its time to forget the trouble, but never forget our fallen heroes. I think we can all coincide, remember and move forward. we cant live in the past.
I have to admit that I was one of the many cynics at the beginning of the visit, but like every other fellow cynic that I've spoken to since, I admit that I was wrong. Watching her visit to Cork I confess to feeling emotional. I had the same baggage as most people my age, but it evaporated. Respect to the Queen for focussing the world's media on Ireland's selling points. And well done to everyone involved. I have never felt more proud to be Irish. And more importantly, from Cork!
we will never for get our falling comrades my they RIP<3 but i think we should stand together & stop the hate & killing i think the time has come for forgiveness. GOD BLESS OUR FALLING HERO,S OF THE OLD IRA MY THEY BEREMEMBERED 4EVER<3.
What a historical time to be alive.. I'm glad it's this queen that made this visit and huge gesture of reconciliation. I don't think it would have been so powerful had it been Charles or William. I think Both The Queen and The President handled this perfectly.. Lets look forward now.
Did anyone see Michael Hogan (grandnephew of M. Hogan who was killed in Croke Park) on RTE??? someone who was brought up with that weight of history and still welcomed the British head of state says it all about how far we have come.
These extreme Republicans have being shown up this week with some of their blinkered and poisoned views. Cleansing of British Imperialism at the Garden of Remembrance?? Why don't you clean the streets and help this nation get on its feet.
wow what a beautiful speech!!!!!!!!!!!! england has been good to many of us irish with work let no one forget that .....god the queens speech was beautiful xx
She paid her respects to irish freedom fighters. What more could she possibly do? . Im irish. And i certainly see her in a different light. Afterall its goverments that makes decisions. Not monarchys
Not a bad speech but if England are to ever apologize for the horrors that the done to the Irish people that would have been the perfect time... I'm kinda annoyed we didn't get one...
I do not have TV... So, I came to, if I can dare say "Good Old youtube". The only thing I have to say is, when the lady started to talk about the part of the Irish Island, up north, I though she was going to say... At a certain time (this is me using blunt words), "Here, have it back."
The day IRELAND grew up! it is interesting reading the Irish times and reading people's opinions on the "Visit of the Queen" I respect both sides. As an Irishman I have never been so proud of my country as I was when Ireland welcomed Queen Eilzabeth onto Irish soil. We showed the WORLD that we as a nation have forgiven and we want to move on together. A few thugs in Celtic shirts will not be allowed the tarnish that. Well done to all involved Gardai, Army and everyone else who aided this event.
Brilliant with Heaney there-'Be advised my passports green, no glass of ours was ever raised to toast the queen!' bet he didnt see this day arriving! as a republican i was unexpectantly 'humbled' in a way and very proud of the Queen paying respect to our patriot dead!
@bullLEGEND234 one step at a time surely.YES they invaded us and yes there's been YEARS of conflict, death, sadness BUT this was a big gesture in fairness to visit the garden of rememberance, open her address in irish and admit wrong was done.Rome wasn't built in a day.Nobody is,or should, forget the past however its also important to build on the present to prevent future loss of life and upset to todays people and people of the future in Ireland
@teee2 Well said, Ireland's reunification is inevitable. Everyone thought during the Cold War Germany would remain Divided. With the help of all Irishman and those British Liberals who support a united Ireland, within the next 20 years with hard work and unity of both islands, will be an alliance within the E.U. as the separate nations of the U.K. (England Scotland Wales) and the Republic of Ireland (including the North)
Thought it was a big mistake but now I respect her so much and I can see that she didn't want all Englands and Irelands past to happen and that we can move on and leave the past in the past but still remember the ones who were affected in the conflicts between these two countries.
Lizzy definitely won me over and she brought such an amazing buzz to our country. Thanks Liz! :D
By far the best thing in that whole speech was "I like this clanky glass"... It really raised my opinion of her for some reason! Hopefully the visit makes things better!
Sickens the stomach people are losing there homes and trying to feed there families!!I am not one of these people, but its a disgrace to see this!!Look at these people who look so smug!!There traitors and a disgrace to Ireland!!She should only be allowed when British forces are no longer in the North and she apologise's for wrong doings.Cannot we do the same after if this happend i would welcome her but not now!Every person i have spoken too does not want her here.
@billyrayandsophie they are now our counties they are belong to those who now live there. if the people of the six counties are happy with the way things are then that is their right to keep the status quo. You are one who dictates and insists on the north becoming part of the south. Well if this was to be forced on the people of the north. Those forcing the union would be no better that those ofthe past who pilliged and plundered. We live in a new age. MOVE ON.
Father Griffin was shot in the head by the british a mile outside barna in Co.Galway, sorry makes this better??? A lot of people dont no these stories and this is only one.
@jadl16 what about all the innocent people killed by the IRA including in Omagh! both sides are responsible MOVE ON. If you want to live in the past you will be left behind
