It really is worth noting that Alucard from Castlevania is, as a character tremendously inspired by D. There are the obvious things (Both of them are unearthly-beautiful, plus the various supernatural powers), but there are similarities in SOtN that are neat covert shoutouts too (the Jewel of Open being a blue gem on a necklace, for example, or Alucard's English VA talking the way D does, even accounting for the sub-par English VA'ing).
@Luigi84289 They aren't movies, but you can buy the novels that the character first appeared in, in English, off of Amazon.com
There's a TON of them though (15+), but the writing is pretty good! The plot of Bloodlust (the second Vampire Hunter D movie) is taken from book 3; "Demon Deathchase".
@Luigi84289 And I was sleep-deprived when i wrote my response - I wasn't trying to correct you, just wanted to point out the existence of the novels since you seemed interested in the character.
That was very euphoric, its too bad animes aren't this good anymore. Well samurai champloo and others were amazing but its just something about animes like D or ninja scroll etc that isn't in anime anymore
Love this Film so much!!, Hey guys did you know the girl who did the voice of Doris is allso dose " THE GREAT LAHARL" from the Disgaea saga... just saying^^
Probably mentioned already but Christopher Bee in the credits was a parody of Christopher Lee, one of the guys who played Dracula in film. The first was Bela Lugosi and his name was also parodied.
And I wouldn't say the Alucard/Sonia thing was ripped from this as the whole "relationship with a monster" thing has been a cliche used for centuries.
I also forget to mention, The original Vampire Hunter D took place in volume one in the storyline as Bloodlust took place in volume 3. I wish they made another one based on volume 2.
I guess I can understand where you're going at. I do agree about the similarity, but Castlevania didn't convert to anime completely. It was just Rondo of Blood (aka Dracula X) Symphony of the Night which was the next installment had its artwork done my Ayami Kojima. Titles for the game boy and other hand held systems are mainly anime except the Dracula X remake for the psp and the latest one for ds (forgot the name) Of course I always wonder what D would look like if Kojima drew him.
One of the Classics and I forgot all about this song. Thanx for the memories. These were the Days when Anime Music wasn't all poppy and sound the same (even tho i still like it) but this is or has more feeling.
My Fav Classic Anime's and Sndtracks (imo of course)
1. Fist of the North Star
2. Venus Wars
3. Ninja Scroll
4. Windaria (i always cry watching that)
5. Vampire Hunter D
These are old school Classic anime's, man the memories and Music they had.
now, i have never really liked this sort of thing. to be honest manga just aint my thing...but this is a great piece of music, well done, it's great...rlly good bit of music there....
dude if you think vampire hunter D is an adaption of a manga, then your dead wrong, Vampire hunter D is actually an adaptation of a novel, which is found in the manga section of most book stores, oh and Just to let you know there is a Vampire hunter D manga, but the manga is an adaptation of the novel as well.
You can tell the movie had a spaghetti western vibe to it. From the young woman being threatened by the villain, to the mysterious hero riding in on a horse, to the lady falling in love with the hero, and the hero saving the day in the end. Even the end scene has D riding off into the sunset after his task was completed. I love it and the music is perfect. To those interested, I think it's simple "Theme of D."

it's not castlevania.. this anime is called vampire hunter D (there is also vampire hunter D: bloodlust but in my opinion it isn't that great as this..) but still i warmly recommend watching this =)
Always a classic-- even if the animation is a bit dated. To be honest, this is one of the few anime where I like the English dub better than the original Japanese-- especially at the end where they got rid of Dan's ear-splitting "D-chaaaaaaaaan!!!!" Aaargh, it is a razor in my ear drums!

these old 80's animes remind me of my childhood in Honduras.
a far more innocent time when I wasn't exposed to evil.....

I love this part in the movie, I love the music and the images of D just riding off into the sunset.
Whenever I'm depressed I feel like riding off into the sunset myself. VAMPIRE HUNTER D ROCKS!!!!

i love this part too, its near the best ending of a movie i ever seen!

Yeah I mean it's unlike other movie endings we have. This is one of those endings where the main character makes his off stage exit.

the crappyness of the animation of this is better than the crap in bloodlust, it gives it a unique and very kick ass atmospheric ending

VHD came out 3 years before Castlevania, so you can't really say VHD copied Castlevania
....also Doris sounds like she's calling a pig in this video
