Not sure where I was during this, I know I was in the Hall during earlier bands. This is the Rock Against Racism Show @ the Great Hall @ Coffman student union @ the U of M. They got on very late and only were allowed to play three songs (incompetent students running the show). Not much more show to post. I'm certain the voices @ the beginning telling John are the tapers. I know them.
I remember taking 2 of my band members to see them for the first time and they both stood there in front of the stage with their mouths wide open...staring. What a great live band!
Maybe it's just me, but these guys should have gotten more fame than the Smashing Pumpkins. They, thru no fault of their own, fell into a label abyss, while the Smashing Pumpkins found huge success with a similar sound.
I like Red Edmund's cover of Walt Mink's Miss Happiness. The singers are VERY similar. And, oddly enough the vocal sound quality on both artists versions are kind of crappy. But I think Red Edmund's guitarist is really good and his falsetto is brilliant (on their album). Walt Mink is a rare gem though. So great.
I knew John could rip on guitar but his playing in the quiet verse was amazing when following his vocal melody in octaves. Too bad Candice wasn't around to record with Aretha. Such a soul sister on the low end. Love her.
I LIVED for Walt Mink as a high schooler! I knew it was out of control when even called me their #1 fan. But how fantastic were they?!? Yes! this is an amazing clip, please post more.
You knwo what they said about the Velvet Underground? The Walt Mink version is like this: only like 2,000 people ever heard "Listen, Little Man," but every one of them picked up the guitar...the original line-up of this band was something like God.
holy crap

They are like an actually good version of Smashing Pumpkins.
edcvyhbnjolkn 5 years ago
the thing is the 2 bands formed about the same and are both influenced by Hendrix ,I'd say more Walt Mink has more of a defined sound.
