Why do we cut our hair the way we do? Dress the way we do, talk the way we do?
It would seem that our mind is sort of a lump of clay in that what we do with it ensures how it grows and what it becomes. IMO, modeling or any kind of cosmological spiritual system builds a reference arena of tools within your mind fit to respond to any experiences you might have. But think about how long you've been on the road your on and what it has molded you to be; it would seem that years of study & practice..
I think maybe your teacher is trying to teach you this: You want structure and the whole way is that it's the end of the structure/dream. This is all he's ultimately trying to show you. That's all there is to this, dropping thought, going into perception, then into KNOWLEDGE (GNOSIS). Attention is a force. it's always going on. You couldn't need to "practice" it. Let go its image structures and it wakes up, just as you let go your dream structures in the night and wake up.
For instance, it's 6 am and I'm high right now. that's a verbal fact but my attention is spiriting around amongst visions both inner and outer. Floors, shoes, "papery" things (called thoughts). Diaphanous. ineluctable modality of the visible. So, forget about it all, even the etheric land wall clock known as the structure of what you're beleive studying, and you'll see one form building is as gorfed as the next. GHOST

Try Noam Chomsky or Mahatma Ghandi, they both gave me plenty of purpose in life.
