Amazing work. I emailed you a few months ago and I am still hopefully waiting for you to tour the UK. Alot of people would enjoy seeing you play :) My favourite thing about you is your love for the music you cover. It would take someone with a genuine passion for music to move out of the country they were born in to be able to listen to it and play it legally.
When he'll be in the topline up there with Apocalyptica or the String Quartet they'll remember him and realize how stupid they were for not recognizing the talent behind this man, his project and his music.
For now, I believe I speak for everyone posting here when I say we're all clapping :)
It was even more amazing than the Unforgiven arrangement (and that one was incredible).
I first heard Michael Shulman in the train station @ Union Sq. amazingly awesome. I had to go but I didn't want to. I bought a CD which sadly didn't have this song on it. It's all good though. I think you could very easily earn a spot in a metal band or something, but I don't think that's your style. You're good enough solo. Rock on.
The sound of that song is so good in your violin, you play it really well! Have you recorded an album? I tried to see a webpage of you but I had problems to enter. So I don't have any inforation :(
Make a cd...seriously you could sell this type of music to movies...probably already been done but it sounds good...Not this song particularly but like arabian song and the Stand By me
ok well im trying to play the song by litening to your cover, and ive gotten most of it but u know when u mean to switch 1 note down but u play like 5 notes in between before playing the note u actually wanted to play. how do u do that, do u know wot i mean by that?its hard to explain. but could u tell me how u do that
This is good! You know where I can get more stuff like this? I've heard a couple of Bon Jovi Violin covers, but can't remember where. Would you cover It's My Life? Even Smells like Teen Spirit.
Oh and I was wondering...do you know how I can improve my improvisation skills? I have been practicing, but everything I Come up with sounds absolutely boring and horrible! Thank you so much for reading this! I really appreciate it and I agree, this video should have ALOT more views.
One of the good ways to improvise is to play along with your favorite songs and try different ways of playing them. Record the result and listen to what you like best in your playing - then keep improving the preferable aspects.
Hello! I was wondering if you had this written down or if you did this completely by ear...I wanted to know how to play this and what special effects you used to create this sound. Please message me and let me know, I am desperate to achieve this same sound and I have been working so hard, but I am recieving poor results, if you have any advice for me...I would greatly appreciate it!
I picked it up by ear completely, and I hardly know the song so I followed my memory without trying to actually play exactly the way the actual song melodies were written.
It takes time to get the sound you want. But if you keep working at it eventually it will happen.
There is nothing "special" about the effects. Take any guitar multi-effects pedal and modify the sound to your liking.
There is no easy solution. It is a personal choice for everyone.
man you rock!!\m/ ///(-_-)\\\ \m/ how did you learned to play?how many years you been playing? i am 18 and i just started few months ago...i wish i could express that pasion some day too:)
I've been playing for a while. Been in school as a kid, but am mostly self-taught since 18 years of age. It's been a long and tedious road... sometimes.
I know this is alot to ask, but cant you make like a little tutorial on improvising solos or something? I can play the song now, but I cant do the awesome solos that you do!! :D
Hmmm.... one way to go about it is to put on the original song and try and play with the recording. Take it 1 part at a time... figure it out, then move on to the next one.
The strings require a certain amount of tension in order to generate a good pitch.
The distance from the nut to the bridge on this electric violin is 7 mm shorter than it supposed to be, which means the strings don't have the right amount of tension and are unable to produce a correct pitch at all. There's not one note on any of these videos that has a good pitch (considering I usually have a perfect pitch on any violin that is not defective).
the paganini strad was shorter too :) I dont know what "intonation" problems you are talking about. this perfectly in tune, for a live recording this sounds great.

It takes time to develop your own style.
I play in my own unique way which I developed well over the years.
Most importantly - you have to follow your own intuition as to what sounds good to you and how your fingers can relate to that.
There is no "recipe" as I basically self-taught myself and in the process was able to put my ideas into musical reality.
This is just how I hear and feel the music.

it also depends on the quality of the backing track.
