I went to Cuba Dec of 2011. I LOVE THE PLACE! People there live in a simple life. People are very friendly. I told my co workers and friends, to visit Cuba someday. And i show them my pictures, and my video. And some of them are planning to visit Cuba this year.
Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican republic and all the other countries in the region are "free" and capitalistic yet they do not come close to Cuba in living standards, health care, education and more. Do they want Cuba to be like the other countries where people sleep on streets and on newspapers? Millions of Americans are homeless and this is suppose to be the best country in the world. lol get real.
@lorenzo1524 Lorenzo1524 ,do you even know what illiterate means ???? For your information I had lived in communist country for 27 years ,and another 25 in capitalistic ,so I know what both systems are and how they work ! Belive me ,there is no such a thing like perfection.Capitalistic system has it's ups,but also a lot of downs !!! Freedom in the USA doesn't mean that you can do whatewer you want ,only it lives you the choice of what do you want to do with your life .
@jagoda520 So you rather be told what to do and when. Well thats your choice, i invite you to go live un Cuba. Perfection does not exist. But the system has been proven not to work, and is far more imperfect than perfect. Capitalism does work, even tho i understand it has its problems.
How are you going to pay for school ,food, hospital, car ,rental or your own place ? If you are not strong enough ,don't even dream about coming to the USA ! In here you have to pay for absolutley everything by yourself ,no goverment help ! And if you can not handle it ,you will be on the street very quickly ,and this is the freedom in here my friend ! I wish you would be able to come here and taste the freedom ,but without friends nor family help ! Good luck my friend !!!! Be free !!!
@jagoda520 My brother i live here in USA, miami, FL. Be happy to pay high taxes, and insurance. Through history people have fought for freedom, and theres a reason to it. You were born here and i understand your point, i also know you dont know how that system works, and that it actually does not work. Its true you dont pay, however there are no vaccines or even most common things in a hospital. Your teachers will be 16 years old since there are not enough. And your own place will be falling.
"Extremism" Is Always Bad! The People always get hurt! From Governments, to Religion, to Repressing Freedoms, to a Bad Lifestyle with to much smoking eating & drinking, extremism = pain for the people! Then swing all the way to the far left with Fidel, you get the same thing, extremism = pain for the people! I hope Cuba finds the Center it Needs & Deserves. Cubans are Great People.
@Kifly95 Probably right where it is or a little lower on the scale. Cuba isn't great but it is one of Latin America's leaders in things like education, healthcare, human development, GDP per capita, and many other things. While it has social problems like many other countries Cuba isn't too bad off compared to a lot of caribbean, central american, and south american countries.
@Kifly95 I have been there and i have to say NO it isnt Fidels fault. If Fidel never happened , cuba would just be another haiti crying out for hand outs. They are poor but they just about manage, and they shouldnt be just managing but because of that damn Embargo their growth is restricted. I think it pretty amazing what they have achieved inspite of the Embargo and that's what scares the U.S. I have never seen such a friendly people with a zest for Sport ,education and music.
@Kifly95 i can imagine how much - I am seeing images of success in Afganistan with USParadise soldiers' slaghtered Aghan people and Iraq for instance, there was a success in 'Nam, Nicaragua, Panama etc.... uno grande success.... many many samples of success done by US... but frankly I would preffer this cubanian phlegmatism and relaxation ;)
@Kifly95 he didn't ruin it. It was horrible before. Go see other countries and then talk. Castro saved it and it's a miracle considering America trying to destroy it like all countries.
@AssyrianMuslim .... LOL.... "miracle" you say??? My grandma would fucking cut your balls off if she heard you for the single fact that she can't choose what to eat, what to buy, because her salary does not even DREAM of reaching the high prices set by the regime in Convertible pesos (another currency).. so you better stop talking about what you do not know and start looking at both sides of the story, specially what Cubans themselves say about THEIR own government.
@4yall Your grandma? You must be kidding. Millions of Americans are homeless and majority of Americans can't eat what they want because of low wages and high prices, so what's your point? We know Cuba isn't perfect but what's America's excuse when there are no sanctions nor blockade against it? With all the dirty things America does to Cuba, it has still produced best doctors in the world, free education etc. Cuba has high life rate than America. Sucks for u. Cut your own balls and eat them.
@Iraqisocialist I have at no point defended the "infallibility" of the American system, and I know it has it faults, in fact, I've grown convinced that it doesn't matter where you choose to live, as long as you choose the place where you can raise your children in the knowledge they will be able to prosper... as my parents did. I am completely prepared to move on somewhere else.. for I am not bound to any land.. I was born alone, and so I will die alone... I have two feet to move somewhere else
@Iraqisocialist SHAME on the government that, having given it my young age, said goodbye to my family by branding us as TRAITORS for the simple fact we had decided to move to the U.S. I am a full-blooded Cuban, and my heritage is strong, my grandparents and grear-grandparents, et cetera, have been part of the land and grown roots.. so why must we be treated this way when even my parents had, before our landmark trip, given their all for their country throuch actions and not through words???
rarely will you see a group of young boys playing out in the city streets on a nice day. Unless it is in a park or some sort of organized futbal/ soccer game between teams and futball/ soccer coaches. first of all, it may not be safe...due to gangs/crime/ smog, etc... second, you got video games. that is what life has come to in the USA.
it make me feel sad im 17 years old but i suffer as any other cuban becuse my grandfather allways is telling me stories about how beautiful used to be cuba and watching this video i feel so bad becouse i know how poor is my people in cuba and they dont try to change their lifes ... god bless cuba y que un dia muy pronto alguien aga algo por ella y ese dia i will comeback .... que este gran sufrimiento para los cubanos acabe
@persianqu33n Went on holiday to cuba last year ....cant wait to go back. Very safe people are very friendly, yes it is a poor country and there is some begging in Havana but dont let this put you off Cuba is an amazing country already planning our next holiday to Cuba next year.
Although the production capabilities of Cuba are very low compared to other countries, the quality of life there proves once again how big is the distance between capitalism and socialism. Its sad to think that, for example, many of you americans will laugh at this but the truth is that with socialism in the US(sosialism-communism,not socialdemocrasy) considering the productivity of work there...you would have everything for free without working more than 2-3 days a week...
Cuba seems like a amazing place to visit, like a place lost in time it must be so cool to be surrounded by all that music
My mum and dad have always spoken very highly of Cuba's healthcare system
in an ideal world if u had the time it looks like it would be such a cool place to stay for a while ,so u could really embrace the culture although cause i'm birtish asian
my spanish is not very good so i would probs get lost where communication is concerned :)
My gente..we can argue and talk and preach but the truth is: nobody cares but us. We dont need to be telling the "reality of Cuba" anymore because no one cares. We must unite our thoughts, strength and efforts towards ONLY one goal "change our situation" whichever path we choose to follow. Our people are suffering inside and outside the island. Stop bickering with clowns that feed from the passion of your words. Love to all my Cubans
I'm certain the Cuban government would welcome the U.S. to do business with their country. But the problem is when the U.S. can't do business on their terms with the country they wish to do business with, the U.S. must bully to achieve it's goals. This behavior is arrogant. If somebody want's something from you but they don't like your terms are you going allow then to force their conditions onto you? That's exactly what the U.S. does to nations such as Cuba when the U.S. cant get their way.
I have noted that if it was not for the Cuban lobby in Florida some semblance of normalize relations with Cuba could have happened by now. I think most Americans would support it and obiviously the business interests of this country would love to do business with Cuba. Amazing that in this time when we have normalize relations with Libya and are doing business big time with Vietnam that we let a small group of people hold normalizing relations with Cuba hostage to get their way.
The trade embargo against Cuba is absolutely INSANE - and I'm an American. From what I've learned the economic policies against Cuba are unjust and criminal. The country looks beautiful and the people are peaceful. Hopefully things will change soon.
SCREW YOU...Most every beautiful building in Cuba was built 50 years ago...Castro ruined it! The country is falling apart and has been since the USSR tit went bye bye.....They were a 30 year old sucking on moms tit....Do you still suck your moms tit? Cuba had a vibrate economy in the 50's...not perfect... but better than most in the world! Most of the 60 year old Cubans and younger know nothing but 50 years of revolutionary propaganda...its sad really.
Says you!...Nothing has kept Cuba from trading with the rest of the world...surely a small island can overcome trade sanctions with US.
I'd like to see sanctions lifted only in hopes it will open Cubans eyes to how truly disfunctional the system really is...why do you think Castro has been hiding behind the sanctions for so long? He's a master munipilater!
Castro only survived only because of USSR aid. Once it went away, so did the backward system he forces upon his people...
I don't disagree that many of our sanctions hasn't helped their situtation, but one of the main reasons we don't trade with Cuba is Castro....right?...the man that "liberated" a country only to remain dictaotor for 50 years. His policies and ideology is as much to blame as US.
If Castro thought only US could save his economy and if he really cared about his people wouldn't a decent man step aside and give his people a chance?
OK...then why blame USA? He chose his course, why should USA support him? You do know he allowed USSR to threaten us with Nukes...right? He was never a friend of USA and USED his propoganda and the USSR to gain aid!
Why do people keep saying USA wants to bully thie world? Again...left wing BS. Do we look out for our interest? Yes...so does every other fucking country!
Do you honestly think the USA will EVER SEE the money we've spent in Iraq or Afghan? NO!
Compete with US???They don';t have to compete with the us....they HAD much to offer the world and most countries we more than willing to trade with them.
Castro's Cuba had to buy 150 head of cattle from a rancher in Florida....why? They used to be a major exporter of meat. HE HAS RUINED THEIR INDUSTRIES!
That prick shut down 20,000 private CUBAN businesses in 1968. Do you think the people wanted that? Why would USA trade with a man like that?
Makes everything equal?...for who?....anyone that isn't a member of his party?
Do you think Castro lives like the rest of his people? Raul? He educated the poor...good for him! He also had too indoctrinate them so his fate wouldn't be like Batista.
Education can be extremely powerful! Taxi dirvers make more in one week than doctors....is that equal? He ships off doctors to poor country for 5$ a month and makes a $1000.
They had a strong and growing middle class in cuba pre castro.
Middle class is where you build a nation. In the 50's most nations were developing. US, France, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, on and on. The poor in CUBA are still fucking poor! now....everybody is poor!
It takes time to build a healthy middle class. Cuba had unions and could strike. Hell...the communist party supported Batista. The problem was he neglected the blacks, was corrupt as hell and allowed the mafia to gain too much influence.
Fuck you! I prefer not to live in poverty so that everyone is equal!
Where did I say ANYTHING to defend Batista? He was part black BTW...I was talking about the economy.
Castro has strived to create equality for all...I admire him for that.
What did he accomplish? He put teachers out in rural areas and educated his people....good for him! Again...that could have been done like it's done in most free nations...it didn't require a totalitarian dictatorship to accomplish this.
I didn't say that you dumb fucking loser. I gladly pay more taxes than you probably make in a year! Probably twice!
My point is in every fucking loser society that communism has brought to the world, EVERYONE LIVES IN FUCKING POVERTY. "Equal" in YOUR STUPID minds lead to an UPSIDE DOWN SYSTEM THAT WILL NOT WORK.
Only fucking LOSERS like you would suggest a system where the JANITOR should make the same as the ENGINEER.
BTW...I said fuck you because you called me a fucking nazi.
that because these countries are under economic sanctions its the government that lie behind the problem not the ideologies my country Haiti is capitalist to the core 5%of the countries population owns more then 50% of the nations wealth and land haitians pay for school we pay to rent books from the library ,hospital don't take people in unless they have means to pay, garbage pickup, things you expect the city to cover they pay for it out of their own pockets and we are the poorest nation here
what "countries" are under economic sanctions? Cuba? They have opportunites all over the world to trade. We should end the sanctions but it must be done in our terms...not Castro's.
Its one thing say governments should be involved in organizing their society, and another to assume the only way it can be done is by Fidelism.
In the USA, we pay taxes, insurance or fees for everything you mentioned. In Cuba, they pay the same things but in different ways...freedom is their largest cost
1/2 i was talking about communist nations that still exist now, not including china and Vietnam which became in practice capitalist nation. Castro is not Cuba all he did was remove a foreign power economic control over his nation and his people got punished for it not the regime which is still in power after 50 years. what are your terms and why aren't it put on other autocratic nations you openly trade with.
2/2 i always find it funny how the term freedom comes across but no American have been able to define it for me i have lived in many countries including the US, the way i live and the things i have done have been no different. i think you associate money as the definition and not the things that you are able to do freely out in the open
Freedom of thought without indoctrination...Freedom of Press...Freedom of expression...freedom to eat without relying on buearocrat...freedom to read what I want...freedom from having someone impose their definition of freedom on me...I'd like to be able to peacefully protest without worry of prison, blog freely if I so choose, without being followed.
I prefer not to RELY on a particular party for my freedom...only my constitution.
no...Castro removed private business and confiscated private property from Cubans. Sure...he stole US property but far more property were stolen from Cubans. CASTRO is just as much responsible for embargo as US.
What you Castro apologist seem to forget is Castro revolution was about restoring democracy which he lied to many of his followers, the US and the Cuban people.
He and his ideology was kept alive by USSR for 30 years. He recieved billions a year in aid and still in debt to them!
I suggest you read a little bit more about Cuba and understand what "freedom" is before you say such stupid things. They are among the most sensored/oppressed societies in the world.
What good is it to be educated when you're forced to read what they allow you to read?
What good is it to choose your "representative" when his or hers responsibility is to the "revolution?
What good is education when you can make more as a simple taxi driver than a doctor?
I want to go to Cuba ASAP. However I know lots of people who traveled or born in Cuba.
Cuban doctors are not market driven, its healthcare system is a lot better than most countries in the worlds, despite that hasnt the latest technology.
To read is quite open, however it is not perfect.
They are not among the most oppressed, leave that comment for the countries ruined by US troops.
You'll love Cuba....Hotels have lobster(somethings cubans cant eat although they live on island), internet(cubans can't use open internet, only cuban version). Nice med facilities that cubans can't use. You'll meet MANY Party insiders at hotels because they get the better jobs(which are waiters)...look around when you're there and notice few blacks working those jobs.
Castro didn't invent healthcare in Cuba...He simply stole cuba for his little revolutionary experiment which failed miserably
That comment makes you sound like a typical left wing class warfare loser(not saying you are a loser)
You make it sound like the pie of money is finite...it's not! In structured free societies you can have balance, but the rich will get richer because they have extra money to invest and risk. THAT BENEFITS EVERYONE! Investment brings new employment, provides extra money for taxes, for infastructure.
The only way to help poor is by providing growth and jobs...I believe in progressive taxes
sad...you have same stupid mentality that others that really pretend like you know shit, but really don't. Everything about USA is about money....blah blah blah You and commie Naomi Klein are meant for each other.
Forget about the billions of debt we forgive all over the world(not world bank)...the 100's of million we GIVE to Africa...
Our cooperations do have interest in other countries and our gov protects those interest...just like UK, France, China...on and on
Dear God....I've read a great deal about the revolution. BOTH SIDES! I ALSO READ THE FACTS. The UN provides a great deal of information about Cuban economy prior to revolution. The revolution was SUPPORTED BY MIDDLE CLASS and POOR!
Why do you think it was ssssooo easy for them to take Havanna? Every freedom loving person hated Batista! They had NO IDEA what Castro was planning....zero
"In 1958 that "impoverished Caribbean island" had a higher standard of living than Ireland and Austria, almost double Spain and Japan's per-capita income, more doctors and dentists per capita than Britain and lower infant mortality than France and Germany -- the 13th lowest in the world"
You don't do that without having a middle class...granted...the rural areas were impoverished. What country in the 50's didn't have poverty in the rural areas?
Most of the Cuban "whites" wouldn't suvive had it not been for US $'s from family in US.
The blacks aren't so lucky since most of them stayed in Cuba. I'm not saying Castro hasn't tried to do right by blacks in Cuba, but they held onto a system that is a proven failure.
First off....his system survived for 30 years thanks to aid from USSR and he's still indebt to them. Read about "special period" of the 90's. It was real special.
I guess it's USA fault....everything is USA fault. We should forget the 1000's he murdered and imprisoned. We should forget the 100's of millions he stole.
Why? because he brought freedom to cubans? LOL
free food...free cloths...free HC...free housing...we have that here...its called prison!
LOL...I was talking about our prisons...its called an analogy :)
A nazi would love to rape a nation of all it's resources, destroy the economy, give the people just enough to survive while taking the rest for themselves. military and the party.
By keeping everyone down, but providing them the basics(barely) the odds of revolt are slim
Nothing is free my friend...Productive/intelligent/creative/Educated Cubas are paying a huge price to live in that society.
Quit saying that typical left wing shit!...read up? I know a lot about Chilean economy...My point is INVESTMENT in Chile is what drives that economy. I SAID FORIEGN INVESTMENT!
Hell...we just promised to invest in Brazllian(Nationalized) oil industry of 10 billion. Why?...because we trust we'll get a return on money or at least get money back.
How/why should we trust someone that stole hundreds of millions from us and billions from his own people?
If you come to America you can open a business extremely easy, provided you have visa and some money.
USA has 27 million small business! Half of our workers work for small business. I'm a business owner. Cuba is JUST NOW starting to understand their mistakes because they have no choice.
You see...castro wasn't only against USA business...he was against all business and true liberty.
My friend....people work here all the time with work visas. There are thousands of foreigned owned businesses in the US. Hell...You can buy office buildings in USA from outside USA.
I know several people that aren't private citizens that OWN HOUSES in US and work. It's more difficult to get loans now for foreigners but it can be done.
Castro stole businesses and property(25 billion) from his own people. Why do you think 100's of thousands left?
In Miami...they don' t like people that support Castro's regime. To them simply going to Cuba is supporting his propoganda machine. Castro's cronies are brilliant at munipulating the media and tourist.
Think about how many lives were turned completely upside down by his power grab. For what? They are running out of toilet paper! They ration everything!
Tourist industry workers make more than any other profession unless you're in the GOV. What good does that free education get them?
I honestly don't care what international news says when it comes to many issues. You can spin and turn things around in many ways. You've done it here....so have I.
Where was news when France was buying oil from Saddam under the table against UN resolution? Where was it when Germany was teaching Saddam how to make chemicals for war? I know...I know...we supported Saddam during Iran war...we also supported Iran...I wonder why...think about it.
Why do people keep saying this shit to me and others that don't think Cuba is so wonderful? I've read in great detail about Cuba...BOTH SIDES!
Bottom line is Cuba pre Castro was a DEVELOPING NATION like most in the world and while it had MANY PROBLEMS, it could have been corrected with proper leadership. Not a corrupt dickhead that promised liberation, only to remain in power for 50 years.
This is where I disconnect with people that defend him. He did some good things, but at what cost?
You need to do more research and quit repeating the Castro lies.
Many of the companies Castro shut down were Cuban owned. Why do people think it's so bad to have USA ownership? Canada owns a hotel in Cuba...China is investing in Cuba. He could have bought out investments over time, he could have taxed, he could have gone after organized crime.
Castro liberated Cuba so there would be no competition or threats to his experiment.
Cuba and China also own hotels in Cuba with dual ownership.
Why didn't Castro simply invite other Casinos and hotels and partner with them? He didn't to steal! There were plenty of rooms for more competition. When I say through out mafia,I mean minimize influence.
Cuba revolution will eventually "sellout" just like China did, because they have to feed their people. The Cubans will benefit greatly from it in the long run.
They waiting about 25 years too long...thats what I'm saying.
The "High and The Mighty" rides again. Let's here where you come from and how perfect you and your people are. There is not much there to ruin that the Commies have not ruined already.
Why always the are people that want, that the people thinking like them, for obligation, yes the people speack, about Fidel but,the reality is they love him, they only want some change, but they don,t care the politic, because they are happy with something, and not happy with otherthing, but this occur in all world.but the don't want to change, the thing that they have until now, only that, its going to better their economy.
And by the way Cuba is NOTHING thanks to the tyrannical rule of your friend Fidel who rules by fear and repression and who has executed and imprisonned thousands.

rarely will you see a group of young boys playing out in the city streets on a nice day. Unless it is in a park or some sort of organized futbal/ soccer game between teams and futball/ soccer coaches. first of all, it may not be safe...due to gangs/crime/ smog, etc... second, you got video games. that is what life has come to in the USA.

Love to all my Cubans
cubancohiba23 2 years ago
I'm certain the Cuban government would welcome the U.S. to do business with their country. But the problem is when the U.S. can't do business on their terms with the country they wish to do business with, the U.S. must bully to achieve it's goals. This behavior is arrogant. If somebody want's something from you but they don't like your terms are you going allow then to force their conditions onto you? That's exactly what the U.S. does to nations such as Cuba when the U.S. cant get their way.
SeeMeFlow 2 years ago 2
I have noted that if it was not for the Cuban lobby in Florida some semblance of normalize relations with Cuba could have happened by now. I think most Americans would support it and obiviously the business interests of this country would love to do business with Cuba. Amazing that in this time when we have normalize relations with Libya and are doing business big time with Vietnam that we let a small group of people hold normalizing relations with Cuba hostage to get their way.

PLUS HE WAS A DICTATOR!

that because these countries are under economic sanctions its the government that lie behind the problem not the ideologies my country Haiti is capitalist to the core 5%of the countries population owns more then 50% of the nations wealth and land haitians pay for school we pay to rent books from the library ,hospital don't take people in unless they have means to pay, garbage pickup, things you expect the city to cover they pay for it out of their own pockets and we are the poorest nation here
negkreyol21 2 years ago
what "countries" are under economic sanctions?
JESS6TY 2 years ago
1/2 i was talking about communist nations that still exist now, not including china and Vietnam which became in practice capitalist nation. Castro is not Cuba all he did was remove a foreign power economic control over his nation and his people got punished for it not the regime which is still in power after 50 years. what are your terms and why aren't it put on other autocratic nations you openly trade with.
negkreyol21 2 years ago
2/2 i always find it funny how the term freedom comes across but no American have been able to define it for me i have lived in many countries including the US, the way i live and the things i have done have been no different. i think you associate money as the definition and not the things that you are able to do freely out in the open
negkreyol21 2 years ago
There are many definitions of freedom.
JESS6TY 2 years ago
no...Castro removed private business and confiscated private property from Cubans.
JESS6TY 2 years ago
In Cuba people has more freedom than USA.
They have more consultations and higher education.
The goverment doesnt means "Castro", the goverment is the people.
People choose their representants, and the "president" is choosed by CV.
They are things to improve, indeed, but is not only sanctions, Cuba is at risk of an invasion.
ramtes1971 2 years ago
I suggest you read a little bit more about Cuba and understand what "freedom" is before you say such stupid things. They are among the most sensored/oppressed societies in the world.
What good is it to be educated when you're forced to read what they allow you to read?
What good is it to choose your "representative" when his or hers responsibility is to the "revolution?
What good is education when you can make more as a simple taxi driver than a doctor?
Good luck with your research.
