@elfwae237 one of these instruments may have gut strings and depending on the climate of the venue it maybe necesary to do a fine tuning before doing comprehensive pieces.
My college quartet played this piece, and it seems to me that this quartet lacks a bit of passion...they are often times not moving together and (not that I can say this for sure) eye contact seems lacking. I say this becuase it just seems like they are burried in their music a lot...also, the cellist's intonation at 2:31 wasn't very good...I play the cello, and can say that with practice those high notes are not that difficult to perfect. Good overall though.
I love the feel of this chamber group. Meld together very well. Intonation on some of the high notes were alittle weak with the cellist other then that, great recording!!
more than featuring melodies from the USA, where Dvorâk composed this chamber work at Spilville,Iowa, he turns back to his homeland, the Czech republic, although there are some airs and melodies from the land where he was staying, this movement is ear pleasant and rather appealing due to its beauty
It's always fun to see different people's interpreations of music, especially chaber music.
My quartet and I play this a little slower than what was printed on the score and it helped us to sink into and appreciate the harmonies more than when we strictly obeyed the speed limits. Might be an idea to try to bring out even more expression.
I hate being judgemental (not really), but I wasn't very impressed. The whole thing just seems too...stiff. It's not expressive enough. Everyone appears somewhat timid as well.
@AulicExclusiva Yes, asking you to show your credentials is stupid... lol. Good luck at your next audition.
Since you obviously lack experience, allow me to educate you. When you go to school to study music, you attend things called masterclasses. Here, you learn that the MOST important thing about critiquing a performance is to find something you enjoyed about an ensemble's performance, prior to giving negatives.
Anyone can find faults, but it takes a real musician to offer encouragement.
this is so beautful. i onced danced in a ballet set to this and it has always been one of my favorate pieces of music since. thank you so much for posting this. x
Gorgeous dynamic range, effulgent rich performance, Bravi, evoking subtle bivouacs in our prairies, after the stampeding bisons, among the paladins and mavericks, the wigwams and wampum. Dvorak was the Albert Bierstadt of music. So beautiful, Thanks. STEVE, Yonkers New York USA

The intonation of the cello sounded fine to me at 2:31.
Perhaps later in that phrase..

i think its at like 3:05 where she's really off, its a shame cause its mostly her in that area too..
xmikeyyc 2 years ago
OK, that I can hear, it's a little offputting I agree.

@borskyviolin
oh! she's using a carbon-fiber cello!
i heard ppl say that it doesnt sound good, but from the recording, it sounds fine
xmikeyyc 2 years ago
Yeah, her tone sounds good enough. I think in general I still prefer wood instruments though.
borskyviolin 2 years ago
Yeah I didn't mean right at 2:31, but parts in that phrase were off. specifically at 3:05 is where shes off.
Hinder1092 1 year ago
2:31 sounds fine to me too.

I would recommend that before you criticize anyone's work, that you put up your own video of yourself in a quartet performing this movement.
I, unlike yourself, have.

good for you. But I have to agree with violamaestro

That does not matter, put your money where you big mouth is.

I do agree with you on on your point.
