@PitchBlackGuitarMan somewhere between 1976 and 1983. They were musical guests on SCTV, Canadian Saturday Night Live essentially. That's when the show ran.
Good to see the Cate Bros still rocking. I used to see them play at high school talent shows at Springdale AR in the late 1950s and later watched Levon at the Rockwood Club in Fayetteville. Brings back lots of great memories.
Sad to hear Levon's golden voice reduced to almost nothing these days, but so great that he still plays such soulful music, loves doing it still, and can still rock those drums like its 1969!
Ally: saw your dad playing with Earl and Them last night in KC. Great show! Good to see him playing with that band. Beatles: If I'm not mistaken I think Earl's still playing that same old tele.
@thoostorm4 I didn't mean it as humor at all. I find the song a little disturbing. He goes to jail (10 to 21) for having sex with a girl who "was only sweet sixteen but she looked a lot older." Unless I've misunderstood the lyrics: "Well she showed me to the backdoor and she told me what it was for," then I stand by my original comment. Isn't it a little strange how nonchalantly this topic is sung about?
@Anisozygoptera I see where you got that - but there's a long tradition in blues of the "back door man" - a guy who is for whatever reason not supposed to be there (usually messing with another man's wife). Also, in GA the age of consent is 16, so he wasn't sent up for statutory. "Fornication" was illegal in GA regardless, so maybe that's it. The sense I get from the lyric, though, is that the sheriff was mad enough to find any pretext to get him thrown in jail.
Wow, what an archive video. Not too many of these jewels around especially with double drumming with Levon and nephew Terry Cagle. Earl and Ernie Cate are legends with Ron Eoff on bass.
Yes, it's Levy. From what I remember of this episode, he sort of tries to get an interview with Levon all night with similar results. (The whole show was constructed around this fictitious, really low-rent TV network).
