@jrg305 actually most chicks prefer a guys natural scent. Just find some deodorant that compliments your natural smell and you are good for 95% of occasions. HOWEVER if you are doing something where you are dressing up and you are going all out with the cufflinks and the nice suit you should probably put on some cologne. So like for weddings, nice dinners with your GIRLFRIEND etc. My personal rule is that until a girl is my GIRLFRIEND I don't use cologne around her, otherwise you seem try hard.
There is a bit of hypocrisy in fashion. Things that are out of style are considered no good, but then we constantly see old trends being brought back. I personally don't choose to pioneer bringing back old styles because I can hardly manage the new ones.
naah. Aaron, i have more than 50 colognes. But whenever I wear dated colognes, I get compliments. I think this is a debatable issue. Modern colognes and aquatics are good summer options, but I figure they are wimpy. Try the following colognes: kouros by ysl, giorgio for men, quorum, azzaro pour homme (cant miss that), rive gauche pour homme by ysl, halston z 14 etc. They smell MASCULINE. Like colognes with balls if you will.
I spray once on chest, 1 on neck, and 1 on back of the neck. and this is enough. if more than that, even myself would get really irritated from smelling it too much which is a bad sign!
I disagree! You must be subtle. For most colognes one squirt (or dab) to the inside of one wrist, rub onto the other wrist touch your wrist below your belly button, touch on either side of your neck. Alternately you may spray into the air, and walk through the spray. That's enough. If I know you are wearing cologne you have too much on.
Remember that your olfactory nerves become desensitized after awhile, and just because you cant smell a scent doesn't mean the people around you can't.
I've been watching all your videos and just came to this one, its great to see how much more relaxed you have gotten in front of the camera. This video seems like you are doing an infomercial or trying to impress a client, the newer ones have humor and normal every day speech and are much more geared to your everyday viewer. Good stuff.
One piece of advice that I remember picking up from neurobiology is that, unless you are a gay man, you should take a female friend along to help you pick out a cologne. Men's cologne are designed to smell attractive to women so they are the best judges of men's scents. And vice versa for women when they shop for perfumes.
Hi Aaron, great clip! I have a quick question. Is it OK to spray the cologne on the shirt? As per your recommendation that we spray it about 1 foot from the neck, the cologne will inevitably land on both the skin and the shirt. Will this damage the shirt? Stain it?

it isn't hard to make your own cologne. I do, and it really does distinguish you if you do it right. you really just need a couple of scented oils, neutral spirits, and over-the-counter glycerine
This guy knows fashion, but he doesn't know cologne. Picking a cologne is all about picking according to your skin type. Oily, dry or mixed skin types consume cologne at different rates. Find out ur skin type, then search for the right cologne.
DO NOT ASK ADVICE FROM MACY's ATTENDANTS. They will point you to something generic and that smells not so great. If you can, go to Neiman Marcus. find the one you love with their help and buy it elsewhere if its out of ur range there.
@rvbosano Hi, start watching videos by tswetcoff . He is a cologne guru and has a great channel with almost 160 videos on colognes. You might get a good idea about brands to choose etc.
I enjoy your posts. Re: handshakes: TOO MANY guys either are limp wristed, grab the fingers or squueze like you are comming over to date his wife. Geesh, learn how to give a good handshake guys!
some colognes only need a squirt, not even. Like burberry london, its a nice strong scent, especially for this time of year, only needs a squirt, some colognes smells good if you spray it in the air and walk into it. I find in general colognes should be strong enough that someone should smell it if their close to you 'in your bubble' people will still smell you walking by.
Dolce and Gabbana, "the one" for men, smells amazing. I get tons of complements on it and classy girls (the kind you want attention from) can tell the difference between a $60, 1.7 oz bottle of cologne and a $3 bottle of shitty body spray.
I have a problem with this i used to bath in cologne but went from 10 squirts to 4 almost wanted to do 5...will have to work till i get to 3. if you stuck to one cologne i thought that would be a good way of someone identifying you with that scent like a trademark.
Hey Mr. Marino...... I'm definitely eating up all the advice you have on the different fashion tips. Question for you, what is the best way to apply cologne that doesn't have a spray? Using your finger to apply on your neck and cheek leaves the appearance that you don't have enough on, but anything more may be too much and also can leave a stain on your clothes. Any suggestions on how much and the proper way to apply??? Thanks
apply a few dabs to your neck and then a bit more on your wrists. This will disperse the fragrance over a larger area and won't over power. I would just put the bottle up to your wrist and slide it upside down about 2 inches. This should do the trick
I prefer a guy's natural scent...but that's as another guy into guys :)

I like Bay Rum - people look around, thinking they smell cookies. haha
Oh, and if you're using any kind of cologne, stick to unscented deodorant - or the 2 smells will be battling each other.

Aaron, do u recommend having at least 2 different colognes, one for day time use and one for night time? what cologne are u wearing?

I recomend having 2 colognes. I don't do the one for day and one for night. But I do like to mix it up every couple of days or so.

Sorry for the confusion! You can spray once on the neck and on your wrists. Don't lose too much sleep over this. Just don't overpower.
AlphaMconsulting 2 years ago
Aaron, you said for colognes that do not have spray cap to apply on the wrist and neck.
I'm a little confused for spray cap though. You said 1 ft on the core of the neck and then one to the right and left. As in the neck or shoulders?
What about spraying one on the neck and each on the wrist?
Thanks and great tips so far.

Yes they can. Just because you may not pay attention or notice, doesn't mean that the person standing next to you can't.
