  • I presume that the Tablet is a token authorizing operation of a given locomotive on a specific section of the Windmill Farm's tracks? I noticed the similarity in principle to International Business Machines' Token-Ring Network, which used sequential authorization for data transmission.

  • i know Stuart Cameron!!! hes a volunteer at the DMR!

  • Hi who do i see about helping out at the railway?

  • Ahh now that's the right sized loco for me :)

Might I ask is it possible to come and actually get up close to the trains e.g. help out ect?

  • They're all so cute! ^-^

  • i agree

  • thats a nice railway!

  • What is that hoop looking thing they hand to eachother? I have noticed it in a few other videos.

  • The 'hoop' is the handle for the token which must be possessed by the crew to enter any single line section. It prevents more than one engine being on that stretch of track and is there to stop a collision

  • I had heard of something like that. I appreciate the response as I was waiting a while for someone to enlighten me.

  • Believe u me... in NZ especially - A TABLET HAD TO BE GIVEN BACK into the station machine - before the next section station could RELEASE theirs (where two trains followed through one section) - thus when a mechaincal system for high sped transfers was faulty? MANY MANY HOURS WERE LOST - fruitlessly searching in trackside grass for LOST TABLETS...?

  • @ bobhyde1961 (nah sorry - never PREVENT accidents ... it was designed to simply CONTROL 'legal movements- to HELP stop collisions - (The TABLET - as a control method - NEVER prevented any collisions ? - that was the HUMAN'S JOB...? One often sadly neglected - and rail disasters were the result - & THERE HAVE BEEN MANY)

  • It's OFFICIAL title is that of TABLET. & before the CC automated signalling systems came to be the recognised standard.. for many NATIONAL Railways worldwide (including NZ) these were the ONLY way a train was authorised to enter a section (Note - authorised - IT DIDN'T STOP COLLISIONS - especailly those where RUNAWAYS (wagons even trains) ILLEGALLY ENTERED SECTIOONS - but in general was the ONLY WAY to control NORMAL train movements)

  • Great video

  • Beautiful video. Great job guys!

(I live only 8 miles from Windmill farm. I must pay a visit again some time soon).

    All success

  • Sehr schön! More please! Live Steam greetings from Germany.
