you know, i think retiring early saved his voice. he sounded better here than in 1974. and i heard that in 1991 and 1992 (age 71!) he was hitting glorious C#5's in typical Corelli-sounding style! Pity he didn't sing Verdi's Otello...
Agreed, and Corelli said so himself. Late in his life, he told an interviewer that after he retired, "the bloom returned" to his voice. Also that he should have sung Otello:) --

His voice is in amazing shape for a dramatic tenor of 60 years old! Solid technique! and Birgit is 63! Spectacular singing we will never see again!

Even here in the 80s his voice was still in splendid shape! Love this man, my favorite tenor for obvious reasons.
