Have you used the photos out the Ian Allan book....STREETS OF GLASGOW? You may care about Canada but you certainly don't care about "publisher copyright"
Canada?-crap country and the worst people there are expat Scots!-emigrated there with my wife and weans and got scammed, kicked aboot and generally abused by my ain folk!-aw two faced whingers who deserve kickin out of Scotland!-Culturally?-theres nae culture in Canada-it's all other folks!-left in disgust after braking my back trying to make a home there-biggest lie in the world-"Canadians are among the friendliest people on earth"-my arse!-they'd roll their mothers over for a dollar!
How quaint these words are: 'You're a stupid festering cunt'. Well, well. I've lived abroad for more than 30 years but have never felt the need to insult the country of my birth. I just don't get it, is it you who's become superior? You might want to edit the info about this video. Could make people think you've got some kind of complex about your homeland. It's kind of embarrassing actually, but I quite liked the images ...
Mr McAllister, You are a prime example of a particular generation of small minded wee Scots men who emigrated to Canada but took their massive inferiority complex with them. As a proud Scot with dual Canadian citizenship I can say that while Canada is a nice country, the idea of it being culturally (Guffaw!) and intellectually superior to any other country is laughable. I have many corpulent nieces and nephews in Canada who make the Beverly Hillbillys look urbane! Stop living in the past Sir
Canada is a vastly superior country compared to Scotland. Culturally, intellectually it is a country that does not stand next to the Tartan wingnuts of Scotland.
i stay in cumbernauld village near glasgow was brought up in glasgow.there is a good dvd on amazon called glasgow trams and trolleybuses 45minutes long charting the whole history from horse trams to trolleybuses in glasgow really great live footage it,s only a couple of quid.
While my new home, Canada, is vastly superior to Scotland in so many ways (culturally, intellectually, aesthetically, and with regards to civility) I still reserve a special place in my heart for my old home and native land.
What a load of rubbish! how can you say that Canada has more cultured & be more intellegent & superior to Scotland?..When was the last time you set foot on this soil?..You can't judge a City or Country by watching 40 year old films on YouTube..Scotland nowadays is a clean, modern & multi-cultural country
I travel to Scotland frequently where my mother and my two brothers and their families live.
Through the lens of someone (myself) who has lived in Canada since 1968 and visited Scotland every second year (at the very minimum!) I can assure you that through five decades Canada has been and remains a superior country in terms of it culture and educational achievements.
@freddiequeen Oh in education, Scotland is way out infront. Antibiotics and general anaesthetics both discovered in Scotland. Television and John Logie Baird. Tarmacadam. The Wealth of Nations...the way the world runs today is down to the Scots. Lord Kelvin and his gas equations...Kelvin temperature scale is named after him. And the unit of power, the Watt is named after James Watt and his steam engine. Now, Canada has given us what?
Having lived in each of Canada's three largest cities - Montréal, Toronto, and now Vancouver - I can measurably compare them to Glasgow and Edinburgh and draw the easy conclusion that there is no comparison.
I'm sorry. Please do not be upset by this. Most would agree.
I am offering up videos on Youtube (more to come!!) that document the history of Scotland, especially Glasgow, and the life I lived there as a child and into my early adult years.
Canada ..name me a Wallace,Bruce,we in Scotland ,FACT with this small country have the most inventers in the world ..(canada ,ha ha wake up its time to go to work)..
Is this an example of the vastly superior educational and cultural attainments you've enjoyed since relocating to Canada? If so, then please stay there and stop fouling Youtube with your warped and abusive postings.
Glasgow should have trams again. They are just wonderful. And in the same green, white and orange. I am sure there are companies around to rebuild old ones and make modern ones. I'd love that. Thanks for the video. Great stuff. Love from Zurich, Switzerland.
Class video mate. Glasgow, when it was truly great. Before its transport system was poisoned by the car hating maniacs who reduced Jamiaca st from 5 lanes to 1, introduced 'bus gates' to Hope st no less, and who have conducted a mission to gridlock and pollute our city and to then blame 'motorists' for the jams.
nice music and nostalgic look back, i enjoyed that, even though it was before i was born i imagine my parents and grandparents at that time, as they would have been, and look at the buildings as many remain in situ, and the hustle and bustle.
someone sent amac1000,the author of Great Glasgow transit, an insulting profane message under my I D, Amac 1000 knows i would never do this, I have an idea who the culprit is and i am sure You tube administration will confirm it is Rabidsenhses, see my admonition of his rude letter to Amac1000, 4 months ago
A wonderful and sad compilation of days gone by. If only Glasgow was like that now. Instead, thanks to the Scottish Parliament it's become the dumping ground of the third World. When you travel around Glasgow it's like being in a foreign country. Our ancestors must be turning in their graves.
Fantastic Brought Back some great childhood memories of Summer Hols spent in Glasgow Just set me wondering & thinking Does anybody Know what ever became of the Savoy Chain of Café/Restaurants which ere scattered across Glasgow City Centre in the Late 60's Mid 70's ?
the Trams were sacrificed, to placate the Motorcar, but the percentage of Glaswegians with cars are exactly the same as they were in 1962, 20 percent of the population ,where is the progress in that, and Glasgow will soon follow London in Barring cars from the city centre, also the trolley buses were scrapped all over the UK, was this Arab Persuasion
Glasgow's people have never forgiven the Corporation for scrapping these great old ladies built in Glasgow with Glasgow Brains and brawn, now the city is polluted with diesel fumes and the lung cancer rate is the highest in Europe, mr crossley if you send me your email i will send you an icon of a Glasgow Tram route on the Saltmarket 1948 era, with a number two, white car,Provanmill to Polmadie, and a blue number ten Rutherglen to Kelvinside, free of charge
A wonderful, evocative and sad compilation. How useful the reserved track tram routes would be today. And nice to see shots of The Subway, too. Thanks for the posting.
Beautiful video and sad ending

I have to agree with amac1000:
Canada is a vastly superior country compared to Scotland. Culturally, intellectually it is a country that does not stand next to the Tartan wingnuts of Scotland.
Be fair and reasonable, dear gentlemen.

@amac1000
Hi there amac
in response to your comments above, Canada maybe superior in education but I can't agree with you on culture and achievements.
The way of life in Canada may be healthier and i believe this has clouded your judgement my honest friend.

We were so much better off socially in 1960 that it's not even funny. We had a real civilized society then; a society not based on goods and money.
G-d help the young people of today. Our lives have not been easy, and their lives will be worse - a lot worse.
