I know reliability and comfort are huge factors in building a cafe racer. But what are you going to do with the whopping 50 horse power and blistering 98mph that this rocket ship is capable of?
So all I have to do to build a cafe racer is pull the baffles and install some $11 clubmans? and here I am wasting my time building rearsets on the lathe, fitting clip-ons and fabricating fiberglass tail sections from scratch. And a shaft drive vertically opposed 500 that weighs 476.2 pounds must be a ROCKET out of the hole.
I have recently made a few changes to the bike. I have installed 11'' heavy duty shocks from a harley in the rear, #82 primary main jets, turned the pilot jets 2.75 turns out and added dunlop 404 tires. In the near future it will have clip ons, bar end mirrors, rebuilt front forks with 20wt fork oil and pre-load spacers.
I have a CB750F 82 and it has shocks on back, and I like them. The Pro link suspension is fine, but I think 2 nice performance shocks show off more than the empty Pro Link look. Just my view. The
GL has a larger gas tank. I like both the GL and the CX The CX and the CX are cool!
I like your bike. I am looking for a CX500/GL500 to cafe it myself. Love those bikes, an afordable twin Ducati. Nice .....any advise on getting one???
I would just read about them a lot on cx 500 forums. Maybe you will find that you want a gl rathe than a cx because the gl's have the pro-link rear suspension?
That is the mac 2 into 1 exhaust, but all of the fiber glass stuffing was taken out of the muffler, but the baffle is still in place. I just lowered the clamps on the forks and put the rear shocks on the lowest setting.
nope, there is a single screw holding in the baffle, so I took the screw out and tried to yank the baffle out, but I did not have much luck. Then I forgot to put the screw back in, so later in the week I took a ride that led me 3 hours away from my house, and half way to my destination my bike suddenly became frighteningly loud! the baffle and the fiberglass shot out the muffler and I only put the baffle back in.

I agree

very nice sound. is that just a stock 2-1 mac exhaust and did you use a lowering kit or just lower the forks from the clamps?

very cool! did you cut the muffler in half to get the fiberglass stuffing out?
