  • anyone evernotice whenever theres a supposedly "rare" song theres somehow a picture of jerry smoking weed

  • Marley WAS shot...and he went back and finished the show with a gunshot wound! That is dedication, dedication to us, the people, as well as freedom and music! If we all had just an ounce of his dedication to what we believed in, the world would be even more of an amazing place!

  • puff puff pass

  • cool thanks for sharing that.

    mike b - Grateful Dread

  • Wanna know why they're playing Stir it up? Cause they're jammin'

  • I remember reading about this. They started playing it as a gag but nobody knew the lyrics so they aborted.

  • be good family

  • EVERYTHING MATTERS AND HAVE A GREATFULDAY

  • Those 11 dislikes just lit the joint for us guys!!

  • holy crap i didnt know this existed! thank you!!

  • Bitch bitch hate hate hate bitch hate. What the fuck is the matter with people? If you can't understand the message of both the author and the band then go listen to something else. Don't stop to take a dump here. It stinks the place up.

  • 11 people have neat & orderly bedrooms and lives and hate amazing covers their more than likely to straight laced.

  • What is the matter with you, AirSandFire?! Talk about shitty... Jesus Christ.

  • @freezerburningman he said 'just kidding' in the end. Its not like he was trying to be negative and disrepectful, he was joking.

  • @JSkaterLind

People have routinely gotten murdered while being called "nigger" and "faggot". I'm sure "nigger" is exactly what the people who shot Bob Marley had in mind. Those words have way too much venom to be funny, run counter to the message here, and I have a hard time believing anyone gay or black, for whom those words have caused much pain, is laughing along with AirSandFire. So sorry, but you're wrong. "Just kidding" doesn't cut it with negative and disrespectful shit like that.

  • @freezerburningman Sorry dude... Bob Marley wasn't shot he died of Cancer.

  • @LochnessLakeMonster

"In December 1976, two days before "Smile Jamaica", a free concert organized by the Jamaican Prime Minister Michael Manley in an attempt to ease tension between two warring political groups, Marley, his wife, and manager Don Taylor were wounded in an assault by unknown gunmen inside Marley's home."

Marley WAS shot. Never said it killed him. Hence the line, "They tried to keep me down, but Jah want I around." Sometimes people on the net actually DO know a thing or two...

  • I personally agree.. What about "for the sake of simplicity" simply from the heart & the moment!? & that being good enough! Brave enough to truly create, have style all their own, use actual instruments & God given voices delivered & shared. Then kind enough to share.. So the wannabes & posers have something to "work with!"

The new wave- computer button pusher's are music meshers & blenders. Their final products can show creativity too, after all it still involves someones time, efforts & idea

  • haha wow. I thought this may have been a Jerry Garcia Band recording mistaken for the Dead but its not. Haha it reminds me of Makisupa Policeman how its all goofy. Best band ever is right.

  • man they knew how to have fun.... the greatest band of all time.

RIP Jerry, Brent, Pig, Keith, Vince, and Bob Marley

  • fuck off all of you. i'm sure bob would've appreciated this cover maybe NOT his favorite, but lets see you all create a band and cover this song, especially by an AMAZING band at best.

    pussies

  • oh dear Jah.... not cool at all.....

  • Perhaps this is both the worst and best Dead cover ever. It was fun though, I can tell you that.

  • Oh God, those vocals sound like someone is torturing cats.

  • @NickDanger3 Hey man, it's hard to play when you're really high on acid ... the notes all change places but they don't tell you where they've gone.

  • Little Darlings!!

  • well put LouDaLibre.. pretty simple message..

  • I always appreciated the Dead's broad taste and interest in all sorts of music,as well as their willingness to take chances..Garcia ,in Legion of Mary ,covered reggae tunes in the early 70s before it was well known in the US. The drummer have a good One Drop beat here. But the rhythm guitar isn't playing the skank,so it doesn't gell. Cool that they tried it ,whatever it is it's not really reggae though.

  • wow nice job by the GRATEFUL DEAD. all they're doing is gold

  • Nice... pot smokers unite, right? Wait they both died (rip- Marley, Garcia), we need some more to unite now. Who will step up to the plate and carry the legends that were? All we have now days is vloggers and twittering bastards... makes me sick. People sacrifice the simplicity of their feelings for technology. You people that post everyday just so other people can see more about your so called "life"... what are you trying to show all these others who zombie over you? Make living real!!!

  • @WingsOfTheMind Lol, take it easy chief.

  • @allforyouz Ha. All in good fun bro. But the vlogging twittering bastards will still always annoy me. The life they live is reflected on a computer screen everyday, and they get off on it. They get off on stealing seconds or even minutes from the poor ppl who fall for and read what their opinions are. I am not a chief. I am a warrior ... like crazyhorse or red cloud, I will do the grunt work of the population. Will always tell it like it is. People just enjoy what feels good to you!!! pls??

  • @WingsOfTheMind You're like Crazy Horse? Nice try. I want the last twenty seconds of my life back...

  • awesome cover come on its the dead for fucks sake love it or leave nothin left to do but smile smile smile

  • Too much anger dudes - Bob & Jerry were both global ambassadors of peace, love and acceptance, and the power of music to make the world better. Neither of them was in music for the money - take a hint from those guys, open up your heart and enjoy the tunes.

  • Yep, I know cause them same black people created music theory.Stupid white euro trash people have no brains thank god for afro tech!

  • god rest your soul jg

  • Haha this is great. Jerry improvises and starts the whole thing up. This is great

  • rip both garcia and marley both legends. garicas music was so magical he was so good when he improvised

  • pick such a nice tune from outta the blue singing it out not knowing the lyrics well and still get the crowd going and laughing.. who cares bout the lyrics anyway the message of love is already received. its the vibe that counts- plain original .

  • Was a crush to get in. Heard the first few songs outside. Finally got in during this little bit, not a full song, but a homage. Careened into a hot Minglewood. Hampton just had a vibe, much like Richmond Coliseum. At the end of the show my friends and I were laughing so hard we were crying. We figured that there had to be a lightning bolt shaped crack through the foundation of the structure

  • EVERYBODY BE NICE TO EVERYBODY ELSE, OK?

  • @fbskier20 Fuck you nigger faggot! Just kidding. Love you bro. :)

  • @fbskier20 the world is so fucked up these days we cant afford not to be!

  • Jerry Garcia,

    Bob Marley,

    REST in PEACE.

  • I was at this show in Hampton VA. It was at the beginning of the second set when everyone was just standing around. An impromptu spontaneous diddy...not as a "song". Notice no one knows the lyric. It was just for fun. Jerry started it, and the others filled in. Taken in context, evryone had a good laugh. A great second set ensued.

  • @Torpor111

If you were there you would have known that it was in the 1st set between Sugaree and Minglewood. Now I will say that everyone dug it and had a good laugh but you gotta get your facts strait...

  • u guys dont know , i think , how comical it is really , reading ur history of verbal violence , celebrating this kind of song , liamsdad & tommytom too .

  • awesome

  • The greatest Band there ever was or ever will be

  • @coydad Yep, The Beatles , You Are Right.

  • Thank you Jerry

  • bobby sucks!!! should have let brent sing it....

  • @mrafferty74 He might of except he was dead when they played this live for the first time.

  • @drummerboi420 no he was not

  • @mrafferty74 You sure? Maybe I was incorrect, either way I agree bobby should never of sang this.

  • WHOOOAAAA!!! FaCKIN TITS. bobby man... sit down an shut up.. hahaha! i agree with most everything posted about this.

  • god bless whoever recorded this

  • god bless the grateful dead!!

  • Props to Uncle Jerry, and Brother Bob, too...

  • @whalebob a true bob marley fan wouldn't care. he shared the same principles as jerry garcia and the rest of the grateful dead, and the crowd sound like they are loving it, so who cares? thats what its all about, having fun and sharing music from all over the world

  • @MayonaiseKing100 in all fairness the singing is pretty unacceptably awful

  • bobby ruined this for me also!

  • awsome song bobby needs to shut up though!

  • @ elkbeard: Yes sir.

  • well that was shitty.

  • groovy

  • I started listening to the Dead 23yrs ago, 60+ shows. i never cried so hard when jerry died.

  • happy birthday rip

  • Bob marley is jamming w/Jerry Garcia in heaven and theres no racism..everyone loves another..all the women loves all types of men..white, brown, black and yellow

  • guys it really doesn't make a difference what physical ailment his passing is officially attributed to. its too bad but a correct diagnosis doesn't change anything in this situation. i think this band is great but in my opinion, not that anyone cares, you can't compare with bob. esp since he wrote it to his wife haha

  • HELL YESS

  • I don't think this was 'rehearsed' a lot.

Having listened to 10000's of hours of Dead, this sounds like a jam more than a full-on song.

It's awesome though and the crowd loved it.

The JGB did it sooo well!

  • think they had mickey hart here on drums? not a reggae drummer by any means...still a cool cover and a nice find. thanks for posting.

  • 3rd song in on the first set, double blown , reality is that deadheads go crazy for this impromtu improv it's why a dead show is a dead show

  • Jesus, take some singing lessons, this fucking sucks

  • @Thelookoutslookout you must be tone deaf if you think that

  • @laxskater49 No, I think you must be tone deaf. The singing is weak, it's of key, and the harmonizing is too.

I like the Dead, too. But as a musician, I have an ear. Play this video for any professional singer in your area, and they will concur with me.

    The singing is bad.

  • @Thelookoutslookout well this version is still great. Its not all about the singing, look at Dylan or Hendrix. They both didnt have great voices yet they were amazing musicians/ artists.

  • Dylan always sings on key.

  • @Mark575 hahahhahaha what a joke that is

  • I agree...the singing is terrible. Maybe if they practiced it a little more they would have gotten it right. By the way, I LOVE the dead, but come on, let's be honest here. I DO believe they are capable of better, and they proved it many times. Just not here.

  • Love Ya THANKS!

  • Great singer but bad choices!!! :"(

  • @steveothesecond12 its his life theyre not bad choices stfu Jerry lived his life like he wanted to

  • @laxskater49 As much as you would like to believe, jerry didnt just get messed up all the time cuz he wanted too, towards the end he did what he had to do to feel normal. The reason why he passed was because he tried to beat it cuz he hated heroin and in the end his body couldnt take it a drastic change like that. I cant stand dead heads who think Jerry Garcia was just a party animal and wanted to be fucked up cuz he liked it. Do some research if you love him like you say you do.

  • @silentdreemz85 yes but he caused that addiction BY getting fucked up all the time like he wanted to in his younger years. Unfortunatley he developed a heroin addiction among other addicitons. Look at pigpen, died of liver cerosis.

  • @laxskater49 Yes i realize jerry caused it himself obviously. And pigpen did not die from cerosis, he was far too young for that, he died from a GI bleed or gastro bleed. like i said do research dont just listen to what people tell you.

  • @silentdreemz85 no go on the dead site it sais he died of liver cerosis lol YOU do your research lmao

  • @laxskater49 On March 8, 1973, he was found dead of a gastrointestinal hemorrhage at his home in Corte Madera, California. McKernan is buried at the Alta Mesa Memorial Park (Plot: Hillview Section 16 Lot 311) in Palo Alto, California. His grave marker is inscribed:

    RONALD C. McKERNAN

    1945–1973

    PIGPEN WAS

    AND IS NOW FOREVER

    ONE OF THE

    GRATEFUL DEAD

    [edit]

he HAD biliarry cirrosis which is not as bad as actual cirrhosis, but eventually can cause cirrhosis. But did not die from it.

  • @laxskater49 Dont try laughing at me either. Right on the Grateful Dead website it says the same thing.

  • @silentdreemz85 there is no such thing as 'far too young' for cirrhosis of the liver. just thought i'd let you know

  • @s0undgarden Younger people get biliary cirrhosis which isnt cirrhosis but can lead to cirrhosis. I know there is not such thing as too young but usually when your young you get biliary cirrhosis. which is what pigpen had.

  • @s0undgarden EFF YOU...my livers is made outta cast iron, Im 50 and have been doin drugs and licker since day one.......of course, I'm italian !!!!! someday I'll just stick to the herb!....fuck the cirrhosis of the liver

  • @ioriorioriorio uhhh oooookkkkk... ya eff you buddy? dont know what that response was for... but good for you, man, GOOD.FOR.YOU.

  • One of the greatones but look what the drugs did to him. Sad very sad we should still have many of our great singers and composers if not for their choice of drugs.

  • @willowsl we might not have had all those great singers ini the first place if the crugs didnt open their minds, especially in Jerry's case.

  • @sunsshin3 i doubt if Garcia needed anything extraneous to open his mind, though the psychedelics did take him (them) to places where i'm sure they found inspiration that led their music in the direction that it took, else the music would've been there anyway regardless, but come from a different set of experiences peace

  • yeah, pretty crappy version, i never liked brents playin or singing anyway. can you hear how bloddy out of tune they are- > I will

    listen to bob instead

  • @schwingster69 they are totally out of tune huh, but still injoyable

  • zions

  • Some nice white dudes paying homage to a nice tune is more like it. I think music is meant to be shared. The dead covered quite a few songs... I mean it's not like their fame is predicated upon stealing black music, like the fame of Elvis.

  • @dingle1492 good way to put it

  • @dingle1492 I have always like Jerry Gracia and dreadful dead, but with this trash cover to Bob's song, all i can say lets go back to his own quote in Milan Italy 1980 when he was asked about some singers covering his music, he said "THEM KNOW IT BUT THEM CAN'T DO IT" lol lol lol

  • @Benghazison dude stfu this cover is great dude

  • i like Elvis

  • @dingle1492 WHAT A nitwit statement. figures from A DEADHEAD...Elvis gave black artists a chance for fame, by the way this VERSION SUCKS!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @TOMMYTOMA4 u dont no shit. this is not ment to be a true cover jerry just busted it out of nowhere. and nobody cares about what u think. rip jerry

  • @mrfox50 Hey Dummy, Learn To Spell....It's Know, Not No. Go Smoke Some More Weed...Like I Said, This Version SUCKS!!!!!!

  • @TOMMYTOMA4 i dont smoke weed anymore. maybe you should because ur an ass

  • @mrfox50 You Don't Smoke Anymore, But Your Brain cells are Dead From Years Of Using. Now I Understand How You Can Listen To That Dribble. and by the way You The ASS.

  • @TOMMYTOMA4 quit putting your finger in your butt and smelling it

  • @liamsdad33 I been sticking my finger in your Coked out Eye Balls...

  • @liamsdad33 but its fun

  • @dingle1492 How many samples do the current rappers STEALING from rock bands?????? And they aren't even musicians, just ghetto duchebags who get a like minded (empty minded) following.

  • @JoeKsanu and make lots and lots of money

  • @dingle1492 elvis was to black music as was harriet tubman was to slavery

  • haha, ya know they're high as hell singing here........loved it

  • Most of them quit smoking by the 70s

Jerry didn't until he started rehab in late 80s, about when this was played.

Yeah, they all kindof got over the drugs dude XD

  • dont like the 88'recordings that much.

    The best is from 73'

  • i agree my dad has some recordings from 72-73 from a show in cleveland... every song sounds great.

  • hey I was there and it was awesome!!! wish there were more songs posted from the '88 tours!!!!

  • Rasta Dead you gotta love it.

  • all you haters are just pissed that you weren't there for that one. how awesome is that

  • That puts a nice smile on my face. Ahhh, the eighties with a soul.

And, in my opinion, it was Bob who was a bit off, but the Dead were not about great singing in a "materialistic" or "fantastic" way. They were about making a difference in our lives, bettering our lives and making all have a GOOD TIME!

Blessings and thank you for posting the song

  • Bob Marley a bit off?

    How u mean mate.

    Love this tho...Great version.

  • Weir

  • @sepharothic2 . i imagine you know very little about bob marely or appreciate his music for any matter.

  • sorry..Jerry's cool and all but it is off key and sluggish....they actually could have pulled off a cool DeadStirItup version if they practiced it some.

  • The played a Stir It Up Jam out of Fire and into Drums on 3/21/91 at The Cap Centre

  • man i don't get why so many people are hating on this i think this sounds pretty good

  • God bless you Jerry!!

  • Hahaha this is fun

  • hahahha i love this

  • Too funny! I was at this show and LMAO. I wrote down "Stir It Up Bullsh*t" on my setlist. :D Thanks anyway for trying, guys!

  • hahaha thats great

  • A perfect example of when "it didn't work," in my opinion. TERRIFIC examples of when it DID is when Jerry used to cover this tune with JGB in the '70's. His jammed-out versions and harmonies with (yes) Donna get so much closer to the sweet spot. Thanx for the upload, tho! Jerry's always just what the doctor ordered.

  • I really like this! And you know what, be respectful to Jerry. He was out there in his last years giving it his all. What a wonderful great man

  • yes i agree

  • Yes indeedy. Till the bitter end, and for us.

  • if theres a heaven its one, giant grateful dead concert, from parking lot to parking lot.

  • @elkbeard there wouldn't be parking lots in my heaven, only meadows.

  • this is the best

  • i respect da DEAD but dey fuckd dis song up

  • i agree

dead are in my top favorites, but i did NOT like this song :(

  • It's obvious this is a spir of the moment thing.

  • Its The Dead Mister.

  • 3/26/88 is my birthday everybody!!

i wonder if MJ is gonna teach BOB to moonwalk n if BOB gonna teach him bout Haile Selassie I

  • Hahaha..

    :P

  • I only hope to see him play when I get there!!!!!!

  • bob marley didnt die he went to paradise learn the way of the rasta

  • so i can watch them...

  • you must respect the dead

  • yeah man im sure that marley would be pleased actually, its people like you that would make him roll over in his grave. one love man, its a message. but thats just my opinion, i cant speak for The Gong himself

  • you tramp

  • yeah dude the singing in this song sucks but i like the music

  • That says it perfectly... great music, singing still in progress.

  • that was pathetic-horrible vocals-sounded like complete crap

  • Its cool to see them attempt this even thoe it wasnt done as good as it could of been

  • Thank you for putting this up i have never heard this. Jerry played this for his daughter it was her favorit song!

  • love the song...love love love the dead...but I am thinking I need some ear "bud" to get thru these vocals...yikes!

man I miss jerry...still good to hear 'em even when it's not one of their best

  • i love gd

  • Hell yea awsome man!
