  • Yates did make this exercise famous but he wasnt a natural lifter (juicehead). The yates row mainly works out your traps and can actually be harmful to your bicep tendons. if you really want to improve the size and strength of your back, Pendlay Rows all the way.

  • I never lift like that at work, I'm told its not good for your back. I was taught to keep your back straight and bends your knees when you lift something heavy. What are you doing to avoid back injury?

  • One arm rows on a bench are more effective for lats/rear delts. You're risking serious back injury dipping and moving that much with the weight.

    keep the abbs tensed permanently, and breathe properly, this exercise is fine. As long as you work your lower back muscles from time to time

  • @nasimbahal when i lifted like that for football i was told by the trainer to keep your back straight and your head up, more affective and less chance of injury

  • @utewbing I always felt Dorian Yates' back and sweep had a lot to do with the pullover machine, being strapped in and able to pull heavy weights from behind the head. The reverse grip rows were way overhyped and even led to his torn left bicep.

  • It's an effective but also dangerous move to keep doing that much. One has to really focus on the technique, otherwise it could lead to some serious injuries.

  • Never liked this exercise. Anything heavy enough to hit the upper-back is too heavy for the lower back. I'll try again. My personal variation,is to lie flat face-down on the bench with the bar underneath. I then pull the bar up in line with my upper chest until it hits the underside of the bench. You may need a partner to keep the legs on the bench. This variation needs a high, long bench and setup time.

  • The video is good. Though I can say the exercise is for advance body builders but can be try by beginners like me in a more lighter barbell. I do know a link of a site that gives you workout plans and information on how you can gain lean muscles and at the same time develop a lean muscular look. Youtube won't allow me to post the link but you can check it on my profile.

  • Got a question if I'm 80kg, I have a good, protein- rich diet (6 meals ofc), will I buff up? I workout obv. The supplements that I'm using are Whey and Casein.

    Morning: 5 eggs (boiled) + (2 scrambled)

    Pre-evenin snack: 1.25 scoop whey (30g protein) + yoghurt (around 5g) + bannana

    Lunch: 2 chicken breasts with rice (apple + cucumber)  I hit the gym after an hour

    Post-workout: 1.25 scoop with bannana

    Dinner: Tuna fish and peanut better (32g protein)

    B4 sleep: 1 scoop casein

  • I think you might have some sort of genetics that make your biceps develop too much, they look sort of unbalanced compared to triceps

  • ehm... your variant of an Yats' exercise is ok only for low weight, or you gonna visit a hospital. But this is VERY low weight...

  • This would hurt my back horribly. I am 6' 5" and it's hard for me to do excercises like this one. Even dumbell rows hurt my back. Any suggestions for guys like me with back lower backs?

  • @Wampaa If your back hurts don't go for no support belt, go for another exercise and try kineto.You might get serious trouble one day with your spine.One guy in my gym had it bad from these things and both the trainer and the doctor told him if it hurts, drop it.He didn't.

  • No offence, but you are not wearing a belt, and you should, you are not doing the exercise right, and you should train your arms, they are too small for your body, but good video, and your back is great! :D

  • @zeldaisbest , no need to wear a bel when traning correct and in a safe/comfortable range. If anything wearing a belt can cause more problems. Google it..

  • @ydrol2 not true at all, if you isolate your torso while doing this to work your lats harder and a belt would def. be recommended. do dead lifts and work your lower back, dont try and row more weight by bouncing... not everything on google is true... fag

  • yeah you can do this or try not to move you body and give it all in the mid-back / arms. For lower back you can use deathlifting or squads. But everyone has his own way to train, this is very nice by te way(Y)

  • V-shape comes primary from Lat pull down or wide grip chin ups, giving the flared lat look. Those bent over rows add density to the back. Throw some deadlifts into the equation too, Franco Colombo had a huge back for his side and he did lots of deadlifts. Also throw some T-Bar rows into the back program.
