Whenever I'm paper tuning, how far should I stand from the paper? When I stand very close I get a perfect hole, nock in the center of the fletchings, but when I stand like 6 or 8 feet back I get a nock low and nock left tear? Should I go with the tear from when I was standing closest? Thanks a ton!
Thanks man!!! had new string put on bow and could only get down to 1.5" group at 20 yards. with broad head this thing was going crazy, like 4-6 inch group. I did all your steps and learned alot!!! bow is shooting 100% I cant believe I left a bow shop with so much stuff wrong with it! I recomend using less wrinkled paper, and keep the paper tight as possable.
When you paper tune, you stand 4 to 6 feet back. Your arrow, even though it bends and flexes (archers paradox), properly tuned bows at 4 to 6 feet should be flying straight.
Since I cover all the the rests I tune with moleskin, it's a simple matter to remove the blackened moleskin and put on fresh, once perfect tears are realized. Can't count how many times I was tearing my hair out trying to find the sweet spot. Then I quit being so lazy, blackened the rest, rotated nocks accordingly and often got perfect tears just from nock rotation. Then the only marks on shaft normally appear at the front, if you keep arrow off rest until fully drawn. I may do a video.
I've been paper tuning for over 25 years. In my experience, the standard corrections for high, low, left and right tears are not at all "cut and dried". Fletching contact is the FIRST order of business for correcting poor paper tears. Unless you're using a properly set-up fall away rest or a velocity robbing whisker biscuit. Instead of powder/chalk on the fletching, I coat the rest at all possible points of contact with gunstock inletting black or lipstick. Gives a much clearer picture.
hey man im looking at getting a diamond marquis. its an 09 model. you know anything about them at all? ive seen a few reviews that look good. i want it for hunting mostly sika deer and goats.
I have shot one a few times and I think they are pretty good bows. They are made by Bowtech which is a good company. They are smooth and forgiving. Not much on speed but they will definitely get the job done.

If your shooting mechanical blades do you need to broadhead tune?
BigBuckDown211 4 months ago
if you have a helical will it make an inconsistant tear from the spin or is it best to use straight fletch?
rlc347 6 months ago
@rlc347 either would be fine and should tune well enough. Some guys tune to a bare shaft.

I am going to papertune before this falls hunt, so if my field tip is higher and to the left of my fletchings what should I do?
jtschid0910 6 months ago
@jtschid0910 sounds like a weak arrow. Try lowering your poundage or shooting a stiffer arrow

@hunteverything It doesn't matter what kind of bh you use, it is always a good idea to have a properly tuned bow.

My mom would be pissed if I was shooting arrows at her garage. Is yours?

@JTLweb I'm a little to old for my mom to yell at me for shooting at the garage. Now if i did it at her house that might be another story.

Great instructional vids, but honestly, it does no good to the viewer if your bow is shooting correctly and tuned perfectly. Just a thought.

@hoytrider I start at 4 feet and move back to 6 then 8. If I get a perfect hole at 8 I feel like I am in good shape.

i dont buy this paper tuning crap. the archers paradox prevents straight arrow flight!!!!!

i called my bow shop they said yes you could take chalk and mark your fletchings and then you could tell that way
corydstroyer 2 years ago
I never thought about doing that. Thanks for sharing I learned something new.

can you paper tune with broadheads
corydstroyer 2 years ago
I wouldn't recommend it. Your tears would be very hard to read.
