What about Gretzky...you can't even find footage of him checking anyone, blocking a shot, or fighting without being the punching bag. @BillieBobSmith Orr WAS his own goon -- he had the most penalty minutes and fights of that team from '66-'76. He didn't need protection, he gave protection to his teammates, and they loved and respected him for it. Go look at the tape Orr vs Mikita -- he had a fierce temper -- and compare it with Gretzky vs Broten. If you want to argue via expansion, fine (Gretzky was the biggest beneficiary of this anyways) but to say Orr was protected by goons shows how uneducated you are on hockey's history.

Orr was the Bruin's leader in penalty minutes from 1966-76, and he has more fights on his resume in 600 games than Howe, Gretzky, and Mario COMBINED did in over 4,000.

What do 42 years without a cup have to do with Quinn? He was only the coach for the leafs for seven years. He coached vancouver to the finals in 1994. Then he came to the leafs who previously missed the playoffs 2 seasons in a row before his arrival and then he coached them to the playoffs 6 out of the 7 years he was with the leafs and twice to the conference finals in 1999 and 2002. Orr was the superstar AND the protector. Ask Mr. Sanderson, Mr Bucyk, Mr Stanfield. Orr was also the shot blocker, the goaltender, the winger, the centreman, the shooter, the scorer, the playmaker and the crushing body checker. There is absolutely no aspect of hockey that he did not master. Top defenseman, top scorer, tough as a bag full o' Mounties. And when he left the afternoon game after winning two fights and getting a hat trick, he'd go straight to the hospital to visit a sick child. Wow.
