Dennis is a national treasure. I hope he continues on national radio for many, many years to come. His respectful, reasoned discussions with those who differ, and his frequently non-political, deeply insightful discussion on the big issues of life have taught me a lot.
One of the best lessons- simply clarify your differences with others and leave it at that. Forget trying to win them over. Just know your position and explain it well. If they disagree, so what?
I would much rather not be taxed to pay for daycare for others'. Just myself. When you start letting others take care of you - you are absolving yourself for the responsibility of taking care of your own life. I moved out when I was 18 because I wanted to provide for myself. And now, I want to provide for myself and my wife, and child. It's called growing up, and taking responsiblity for yourself: GOOD or BAD. I'm proud of what I do, AND how I do it. Socialists are proud of, what exactly?
You don't want to be taxed to pay for daycare or health care, but you allow your government to give away 700 billion dollars to companies like AIG that spend $27,000 for a "spa day".?? See, everyone is a conservative until they're broke. Then they have their hands out just like a homeless bum. I'll bet most of AIG executives are Reppublicans.
Angelina, he is referring to being "taken care of" with respect to the things on many liberals' agenda's: free daycare for all, free health insurance for all, free this, free that. Essentially, a Socialist agenda, which is what the 'progressive democrats' now call themselves. He is not referring to the basics of a society. Everybody wants those things. (Oh, and by the way. Nothing is free. Your taxes will go up, and goverments waste money like no tomorrow. $9,000 hammers? $12,000 toilets?)
BTW, Americans don't want free health care- we simply want fair health care. I work in the health care field and I have good health insurance and I have my health needs met. But believe me, many people don't. I see what happens behind the scenes and if you have lousy health insurance or no insurance you are screwed. You WILL be treated differently. If a family member of yours gets in a traffic accident and has a brain injury and tries to get a neurosurgeon just try with no insurance. HAH!

Dennis, the government doesn't take care of me or my family and I'm a democrat.
So you're saying we should have no police department, no fire department, no rules or standards for roads or bridges, nothing to help people when they are down and out. If it wasn't for SS we'd have the soup lines again.
That's not at all what he is saying. If he was, he'd be a libertarian. Please listen to his show.
He knows the government isn't good at running things, so he doesn't want it to run your health insurance, or to tell you that you can't smoke in your own home, or to tell the oil companies they can't drill.
He DOES want the USA to "fight evil" (war on terror), which is another reason he is a republican.
Well believe it or not, Democrats want to fight evil too. We just want to fight it where it is and not bring it to places it isn't. The "terrorists" were not in Iraq. There were and are in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is where we should have kept out efforts. When we took Sadam out (yes he was an evil man, but he wasn't behind 9/11) we allowed Al Queda to invate Iraq. If we had gone after them where they lived we probably have Osama by now.
Cjla, I would say ALL dictators are bad. Saddam terrorized his own people, but he did not attack the U.S. Most of the people who attacked us on 911 were from Saudia Arabia. So why aren't we attacking Saudia Arabia??
If the U.S. is now in the business of bringing down evil dictators, there are a few in Africa I'd like to see brought down. Let's at least be honest with the American people and not use made up reasons for starting wars. GWB simply wanted t settle a score and he used us to do it.
Thank you for your response. Anyhow, I will quote what Dennis Prager said, "It is obviously impossible to fight every evil in the world" he goes on to say, "What kind of idea do you have? To either take all the evils on the Earth or none of them." So,are we actually doing good in Iarq? I am guessing your answer will be "Yes, right?
CJla, are we doing good in Iraq? I would defer answering that until you ask the 1 million + family members of Iraqis who have died in Iraq. Are we helping now?? Of course - because American soldiers always help. But our efforts should have gone to capturing Osama and not settleing a score for GWB.
I did not say "good" in terms of settling good outcomes. When I said the word good i meant fighting evil. Do ou see U.S. soldiers fighting evil in Iraq, or what exactly are we fighting agaisnt there? Look at my question, I am asking what are we fighting agaisnt, NOT what are we fighting for?
" 1 million + family members of Iraqis who have died in Iraq"
1. Your source?
2. What's the percentage of Allied collateral damage vs.intential insurgent attacks?
"efforts should have gone to capturing Osama and not settling a score"
The over-emphasis upon Osama alone is the weak spot for those left of center. Islamic terror existed before and shall exist after Osama, and my primary woe with President Bush is in the clear definition of that enemy and not singling out Bin Laden alone.
Who are the enemy? Even if 80% of those casualties are from other Arabs and not us or our allies, does that negate our responsiblitly for starting the war in the first place under dishonest terms based on a non existent threat? Like Colin Powell said, if we go in, then we are going to own what happens.
In addition, Democrats know how to get rid of other Democrats when they try to put too much government in our lives. In California, we voted out the previous Governor and put in Schwarzenager. He couldn't have won without democrats. On the other hand Republicans always support other Republicans regardless of the outcome. Look at where GWB has left this country - jobless, homeless car-less,vets with shoddy health and mental health care. That's how you reward these brave men and women???
Irony. You are provably, factually wrong and ignorant. He said "as little government as possible" you seem to think he said "no government". Conservatives and libertarians are not anarchists.
I adore Prager... his big booming voice and gentle spirit, truly a remarkable human being. And very smart to boot.

How much have we dropped in Iraq & Afghanistan. Should the government just stop taking care of the poor, sick, helpless?

Was Saddan Hussein a terrorist? Or a bad dictator? Was he or was he not a terrorist to his own people?
