    Customer Reviews:

I've built exactly one kit so far: a Saga copy of a Strat. Contrary to what you may see elsewhere, the holes were all good, the quality is good (remember, this is a hundred-dollar kit, not a 35K professional guitar,) and I learned more in reading their set-up instructions than I'd learned in the previous 25 years of fooling around with ...

  • What did you use on the headstock it looks great!

  • Dang it sounds great

  • @foodsmighters thanks man!

  • Im thinking about buying one of these. But the only thing keeping me from is it that im not sure how you get the headstock like that. Do you have to woodwork that yourself??

  • @Shamonachild - yes, you have to cut it out yourself. It isn't really that hard though, if you have a jigsaw it's real easy. Just trace out your shape, but it out, and sand it smooth. The sanding is the tedious part

  • Which guitar do you prefer, the les paul kit or the tele kit?

  • @TheTom114 - Les Paul kit. However, I tried to do too much with this kit and may have wrecked it, haha

  • Did the bridge pup sound so strong out of the box? The bridge pup on mine is probably less than half the strength of the neck pup.

  • @MrAlbinoPanther move the pickup up closer to the strings

  • What are the tuners again? I cant catch what their name is.

  • Did the neck fit the body well? How much did you pay for new tuners and what exact brand are they?

  • @robman616 - The neck fit fairly well, and I don't recall how much I spent on the tuners but they were most likely from GuitarFetish.

  • nice paint ...what color is it

  • @TheArts8 - I was supposed to be copper. The paint I used never fully cured (hardened) though, so I ended up stripping it

  • please tell me what did you use on the headstock to get it that yellow tint color???? It looks amazing

  • @AviatorAndyK - If I remember correctly it is Stew-Mac tinted aerosol lacquer. I bought it for my sunburst and had some left over.

  • how difficult was it to paint? i am having to do one for a school project. any tips? especially types of paint used

  • Yours sounds really good---must be the amp?

  • whats the advantage to "string through"?

  • @1295GA sustain

  • is there any reason you didn't paint the Headstock?

  • how's the action?

  • this might be a dumb question, but.... can i paint the pickguard?

  • @1295GA Pickguards are mae of plastic type material--you would probably just accidently scrape the paint off---so probably not good idea

  • Hi from Italy!

Can you tell me what's the average weight of you guitar is?? i'm looking for a light thing, and real teles are far too heavy for me, so i was considering the idea of getting a Saga kit as you did....

    thanx!!

  • did the binding on the guitar come with it?

  • @nestron3030 Actually there isn't any binding on it. It's just an illusion or something

  • hi there!

I bought a kit from Saga 4 years ago. And I sold it. Now im waiting for another one.

Did you paint the pickguard? Or does the orginal pickguard from fender fit on the kit?

  • @stonemaskpuppets - the pickguard is one that i bought for my Fender Tele. I figured I'd throw it on here since I wasn't using it

  • I was told, that the original Fender pickguard would not fit on my Saga Tele. Does it fit 100%?

  • @crowdermusic So Fender pickguards fit the Saga tc10?

  • @SuicidalxFail - In my experience yes

  • @crowdermusic what kind of pickguard are you using in this video? can you be specific

  • How can u compare the quality of this saga w/a real tele, does it feel good in ur hands and stay in tune??

  • @paraglidermx - it stays in tune ok. I haven't had this one set up properly, so I think that would help a lot, and really upgrading the tuners will do wonders

  • Hey man, i wanna say thanks, ive been looking for a vieo with good quality on it to show me wat this guitar sounds like, and i think i made my choice. I should be ordering this soon. And ive gotta say great job on yours! Did you not paint the head because you didnt want to or is it just hard to paint it?

  • I didn't paint the headstock just because I didn't feel like it. i've done it before though, its not difficult

  • ok sweet, im getting the LP version of this guitar, and painting it to look like a buckethead guitar. thnaks man.

  • Thanks for the info. I found a tele. kit on grizzly industial for 109.00 , I think I`ll go with them , so thanks again. E.J.Moore

  • hey man go to ebay, u can get a kit for $93

  • hey man, can you give me a phone number to get a hold of the Saga company so I can order one?

  • @coffee489 I never called, I always ordered online. I think you can find better prices if you go through a vendor than through Saga themselves

  • Sounds pretty good. I would have given the front of the headstock the copper color as well. I've been doing a lot of research on the Saga kits and think I might give one a try. Are you the guy that did the "Stormcaster"? That copper Tele looks familiar.

  • Yep, I did the "Stormcaster" as well. I'd say give it a try!

  • this is what i like to see lots of mods on what are already v good kits, now ive never used warmoth and dont intend to (ive made 188 and assembled 2! client requested part time in 3 and a bit years £400-£800) and i must say i was impressed with what you did so much so i want to try out the tele kit!

  • Thanks! They are good guitars as is, but I like to tweak things anyway, so I thought I'd do the extra's.

  • Did you use a drill press to drill the holes for the string through?

  • Nope, I hand drilled them. I used the bridge string-thru holes as a template and just went very....very slowly

  • hey man does the headstock come cut like that or is it the big block ugly thing?

  • it comes with a paddle headstock so you can cut out and shape it yourself. All I did was take an outline from my Fender and trace it on. I had to manipulate it a little bit just to make it fit the paddle, but I'm happy with the look

  • was that kit hard to build, and how long did it take you to build it

  • it wasn't too hard to build. It was my third kit, so I pretty much had the basics down. The instructions are helpful but not 100% thorough. Overall I'd say it only takes a few hours to build, but a couple weeks for the painting (mostly drying!)

  • sounds good. i'm looking for an alternative to the $1500.00 fender with the mini humbucker

  • is that neck in the kit, does it feel comfortable and easy to play?

  • yeah its pretty comfortable. It could use a good setup though, especially a lot of work with the nut

  • Does this guitar stay in tune?

  • it holds tune fairly well. I did upgrade the tuners though, which help a lot

  • Comment removed

  • Looks and sounds very nice - - I've got to try one of those kits. Thanks for posting.

  • can you make me one? how much would you charge?

  • those amps sound really nice.

  • howd u do the string thru? w/ a drill press? and did u hav to get a new bridge

  • Where are you buying these kits? ebay?

  • Theres some on Instrumentalley(dot)com.

  • Search saga les paul kit on google and theres a couple vendors

  • How much did you pay for this guitar kit?

I have a Michael Kelly vintage patriot guitar, but I'm in the market for a new one. These saga guitar kits look really inviting! Should I get one instead of going and getting a Squier?

  • I got these kits because I was looking for a project and something fun to do. I would say they can be on par with Squiers if you put a little work into them, but Squiers are probably better off the wall.

If you are looking for something fun though, and ending up with a more than playable guitar, I'd say go for it! I paid $80 plus shipping for this one I think

  • where did you find it for 80 bucks?

  • the price has gone up recently (within the last few months). Now the TC-10 kits can be found on ebay for $89.99, plus whatever shipping costs are

  • oh ok cause i was looking at all the kits on there. im kinda hung up between a tele and a lp. like a prs style dillion now. can that tele bridge be routered out to fit a humbucker or not? if not id just put a hot rail in it

  • you know, I bet you could route it, but I would just say go with hot rails. I have a GFS Lil' Puncher in my Fender Tele that i love

  • mad chill man, sweet guitar, just ordered this kit, could hear you jam all day.

  • thanks man. let me know how yours turns out

  • looks and sounds great! was the through-body stringing hard to do?

  • it wasn't incredibly difficult to do the string through. The way I did it isn't perfect by any means, but it is functional and the ferrules on the back line up pretty well. It was just a very nerve-wracking process, so patience was key

  • Hey im ordering a guitar kit tele r they eny good for some distortion?

  • I think so. I never really use any real high distortion, but in the other two videos I did with this guitar, they were a little more distorted.

  • I'm happy you're playing chords instead of just showing off soloing like most of the other saga demo videos... Good to see what a full chord sounds like

  • do u recemend differnt tuners?

  • yes, I do. I've tried a few different ones. Schaller mini's are nice, I've gotten some Gotoh's from Stew-mac (on this guitar). Also tried some GuitarFetish tuners which work really well.

  • nice lookin and soundin guitar man

  • did you stain that neck? it looks niice. also like the body color.

  • Kind of. I used a tinted lacquer (left over from my sunburst LC-10) that I thought might look good. It's a little more yellow than I hoped, but I still like it.

    Thanks!

  • nice

  • yep, i was meaning the amp.

i need one and i dunno what to take between this and the vox da5.

    thanx :)

  • yep, well I'd say either one would be good. I've gig'ed out with the AD15, and it works really well, plenty of power when you need it, but also good for practicing. Either one would be a good choice though I'm sure

  • is it too powerful for home practice?

  • I'm assuming you mean the amp. And I think it's perfect size for home practice. I use it in apartment all the time. I never turn it up real loud, but you can always use the direct-out jack, and plug in headphones.
