my take on plasma or lcd is the picture dont look as good as the good old tubes !! yes it looks nice cause its flat but u dont watch the flatness but the picture. i'm not sold on the technology. dont throw away your good old tubes folks ! this is a commercial revolution mistake !!!

The reason more people buy LCD over Plasma is because of 2 things: The burn-in misconception that started because of the first series of home theather Plasmas back in 2001. The other is BRIGHTNESS--ppl don't understand that the amount of light an LCD puts out is UNNATURAL AND UNNECESARY--especially once you take the TV home. LCDs looks better in showrooms only because they cope better with ambient light...

Also I'm going to get rid of some of the myths about plasma tvs. They do retain an image displayed for a while, but there will be a screen wash or white out feature in there somewhere. Pop that on for 5 mins and bingo- image retention is gone. Also plasma DONT need re-gassing after a few years... unless you want to inject phosfor into microscopic little chambers that hold the gas! A plasma is less reliable though as they contain more parts IE more to go wrong! And yes, I am a tv engineer!!!!!!

Leave it on a dvd intro screen or the like and trust me you will get retention. It might be that you cant see it against a dark background. Try and white wash the screen and you will see where its retained the image... it takes a trained eye but it'll be there. Still its not a problem... most people cant see it anyway.

Finally someone clears up the terrible myths that started because of the first Plasma TVs that came out! But, actually, Plasms panels are built more durably than LCD panels--Tempered glass and metal instead of plastic which LCDs use.

And with LCD SEVERAL THINGS CAN GO WRONG: Dead Pixels and/or stuck pixels (VERY RARE on plasma), Backlight failure (Plasma does not use a backlight so this isn't an issue), mura, etc.

Plasma is a great technology!

My god just reading some of the comments on here makes me chuckle. Theres loads of people on here that like to think they know whats what but most of you don't. LCD's are ok upto about 42", then plasma is the only way to go after that. As for anything below a 42, its preference really. LCD's are more relaible due to less inside to go wrong, but if its picture quality you want plasma is the only way. They will break down at some point though.

never. Plasma's are actually extremmely good for gaming, but some people say lcd's are better for gaming.

Plasma is EXCELLENT for gaming. I just sold my LCD and bought a Panasonic Viera. No Blurring, excellent black level, excellent viewing angles.

The ONLY thing, is remember to mix-in a little TV with your gaming--e.g., if you're playing Gears of War for 6 hours straight, switch the screen to TV for a minute or two when you go to the bathroom.

Also, this is only really an issue in the first 200 hours, then it is much less likely to be a factor.

i have the samsung HP-T4254 plasma 720p 42". i have only had it for 30days got it for $999.00 at best buy. out of the box i set the picture at standard at 60% contrast i use the tv alot everyday for about 12 hours a day. only problams i have had with the t.v is ghost image there always there they do leave but it gets annoying and what happends in 2yrs once the t.v is older are the ghost images going to leave??? thats what i'm scared of but thats the risk when it comes to getting a plasma.

Buy a plasma, trust me....LCD's don't have the clarity......a plasma used normally will last you 8 years without problems if its a good make. You can get a 50" here in the UK for under £1000. Not a large sum for years of entertainment.

I would get a plasma. LCDs don't have good contrast ratios when compared to Plasmas, and the problems had with plasmas are starting to disappear.
