I actually have YDL installed on it at the moment.. I wanted to try it out then read a bunch of things broke in Ubuntu as they upgraded to newer versions, including wireless. There are instructions for how to get it working but I'm too lazy to put Ubuntu back on. One thing I will say is it is much easier to install apps in Ubuntu than YDL and YDL will charge you for some things like certain codecs. I will put Ubuntu back on when I get a chance but I'm in no rush.
hey can you make a video on how to get the wifi up and runing with the new kernel and every thing im get confussed with all the codes i need help realy bad

piracy = viruses if you don't know what your doing. So think of it like this. Pirate games and know nothing = lose all your money because hacker has visa cards... or... buy game from store = 60 bucks is gone, but you don't have to go through bankruptcy and depression.. I choose buying the game.
How is this piracy? Ubuntu Linux is open-source software and the OS is unable to boot ps3/ps2 backups. The ps3 has a option that allows the ps3 owner to boot an OS on their ps3 with no hacks.
Why would one want to pirate PS3 games? I could sorta justify piracy if the games were bad or if they were selling a crapload already, but the PS3 really needs some support.
THE ONLY Game I am lookin forward to is MGS4 There is not a single game other that that I would want to own for the PS3. All the others i use on 360. We basically bought ps3 for blu-ray... looks nice on 52in bravia xbr5 :D
there is actually a way to get the games to run, you can lituratly create a virtual cpu, so make the os think its running x86 as apose to cell, but the only problem is the ps3 is majorly lacking on ram and running linux wine and windows is overkill
ok wine does run windows programs but what he is pointing out is that wine actually stands for "wine is not an emulator". even though it pretty much is an emulator. kinda like gnu stands for "gnu is not unix", even though it's a unix based system
cool video man, i just installed it myself, cant seem to get the full screen though, or good res, i have a 40' LCD runs at 1080i. how do you get the full screen and res daniel
did u hav to install YDL before hand and then install ubuntu or did u install ubuntu from scratch, im thinking of doing this on my 60" is it slow or does it run smoothly??
actually it is 60" but you don't own it so you wouldn't know. i'll probably post more in the future, next time i'll show and be sure to measure with tape just for you
wow that sure is not a 60" tv. My 56" is alot bigger in width to let u know now thickness because it is thicker. Oh and also my friends had a 60" tv and it was at least 15 ps3s long add or take a few.
can i get wifi just by creating a ps3 online acc? or do i have to buy something special before... all i have is a ps3 strait out of the box and motor storm, can i go strait online without having to get a wifi router or something?
you need to at least have a wifi connection available, whether it's your own or you're stealing a neighbor's. then you need to have the premium edition of the ps3 which includes the wifi card, otherwise you need to plug in with an ethernet cable. i have heard that sony has made some changes so the regular ps3's might come with wifi now, i don't know.
Wifi? How? im a pro with linux and have no idea how to get wifi on PS3 ubuntu. also i have a graphical boot up so it doesn't have the text start up like seen in this video on my PS3 :D
You can use a regular TV, I just installed it using like a 20" SD tv imo. Just rememver that you can move the windows around by holding alt + left mouse button so you can see everything because on an SD TV the windows will be off the screen
it can't. worse case scenario you mess up your install and kboot doesn't load properly. in this case you would just do a factory reset for your ps3 if you couldn't figure out how to manually fix it. google for it or look in the manual.
I'm not much of a gamer but i know there are different applications that can assist you with getting games to work in linux. just google for cedega, wine, and transgaming.
Nah, it does not run Games via Cedega, because the ps3 is a PPC based chip and sony restricts access to the RSX (graphicss card for the PS3.) IT is near impossible to run pc games through linux. But I do not know about PPC based linux games (if there any out there) but your best chance is emulators. Snes, megadrive, mame etc.
"i started out by going to psubuntu dot com. you should be able to figure it out from there." as i stated earlier. there are links that already have this explained.
i started out by going to psubuntu dot com. you should be able to figure it out from there. as far as the speed goes, everything is slow the first time starting up, including the first time you launch applications. after that it should run fine. keep in mind you need the premium ps3 for wifi as the standard package does not include it. you may be able to plugin a usb wireless adapter if you have a standard ps3
please tell me how i installed ubuntu 7.04 on my ps3 everything is perfect expect i don't have wifi

if you install linux on your ps3, and use wine, you can basically run those games.

Linux can utilize memory cards as ram. You could also use "Wine" or "Cedega" to play Halo as long as Ubuntu is optimized to utilize the RSX.
