I only discovered Amalia after met my Potuguese wife, six years ago! Never even heard of fado before, but now I'm addicted.

Yesmaybe the 'Soul of Portugal' but she is loved and revered the world over rightly so! What a great artist,diva and folk singer.

I first saw and heard her sing on BBC tv when I was a teenager, I think it was about 1955/60.

I was completely bowled over by her captivating style of singing, I have never forgoten that magical moment and now my daughter has her name.

Listening to her sing again reminds me of the great Edith Piaf.
