Well, cars kill more people each year than guns so it would make sense(, according to their logic,) to ban cars. But apparently guns have only one intent, according to the gun control advocates, to kill and cars are used to transport people increasing our economy. I suspect that most of the defensive use of guns outside the home of the intended victims do not exist ----- statistically, that is. I would surmise the following:
--- Most criminals have enough brains to break off their attack if a gun is displayed by the intended victim,
---- Most such non-shooting self-defense incidents go unreported (and therefore never become part of a 'statistical study' ) BECAUSE ---
A. There was no crime to report, only a threat, or perhaps suspicion of a crime about to be committed, or the 'non-victim' doesn't want to arrest and/or prosecute the perp. The 'victim' is safe and unharmed, which is all he really wants,
B. The 'victim' of the non-crime may be breaking the letter of the law. Maybe he has no 'permit', or he has, but the law says he illegally "brandished a gun" because he did not shoot the criminal.
I have both first and second-hand knowledge of such unreported incidents, and I lean towards considering the relatively few reported instances as but the tip of a massive iceberg.

We can't control gun use, it is almost impossible. Putting more restraints causes more activity underground for the distribution of guns. Stricter laws, mean more people acting outside of them.

It's easy to prove that a crime was committed with a gun, but extrememly difficult to show how many hundreds of thousands of crimes are prevented each year by gun owners since the crime never takes place. someone that may have thought of burglarizing someone in an ally may have taken a quick glance, realized they were carrying a firearm and just turned right around. that right there is prevention of a crime using a firearm, in which case that person may have been savagely beat and burglarized.

I have also observed that when such incidents ARE reported, a second process called "slanting" comes into play. I have screamed at the TV more than once when a "reporter" described a clear-cut case of self-defense as the intended victim "taking the law into his own hands" .
The Media want us to think self-defense is the same as vigilantism.

First, over half the gun related deaths in the US are suicides. Those people would have killed themselves anyway, a gun is just the easiest option. Second, out of gun related crimes, upwards of 95% are committed by unlawfully possessed firearms. Because of this, gun control would have no effect because criminals aren't going to follow the law regarding guns when they aren't following it in the first place.

Outlawing guns is EXACTLY the OPPOSITE of what needs to happen. Guns in the hands of CRIMINALS are the problem. Criminals by definition do not obey the law. So taking guns away will only leave the GOOD people defenseless. If we took a FRACTION of the money on the "war on drugs" and used it to educate people on gun safety, we could stop more kids from accidentally getting shot in their own homes. Even if all firearms went away tomorrow, you're right, murder and death wouldn't stop. But in reality, outlawing firearms just takes them away from good people. The criminals still have them regardless, and CRIMINALS are the ones committing CRIMES with firearms.

I was just trying to say that death is a part of life no matter what, and taking away guns is not going to take that away. People are going to do what they want to do wether it is legal or not.
