The 454 is a small block. It's isn't a 400. The 400 can only (safely) be taken out to 434. This is an aftermarket block. Before making stupid comments, people should read a little bit of literature. Google it. There is quite a bit of information out there on them.

A 472 is largest small block that I have heard of so far, and I believe that World was selling turn key 454 small blocks. It is a good choice for performance as the small block with aluminum heads will be about 250 pounds lighter than a all-iron big block. The blocks that can be machined to this size are aftermarket, I seriously doubt that a average 350 block can be taken that far.

They are Dart's chevy blocks and they dont start at 454 they start at 350 and 400 you have to take them to 454. You can take their stock cam location blocks to 454. If you get their raised cam location block you can go more.

Check your facts...here is the breakdown: A 383 is a 350 with a slightly altered 400 crank...and it's still a small block. There is no such thing as a BBC 350. Here is the entire family of Chevrolet Small-Block engines: 262, 265, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, 383 (using a crankshaft from the SBC 400), 400...again all small blocks. Chevrolet Big-Blocks consist of 348, 366, 396, 402, 409, 427, 454, 502 and 572.

this is a bad motor dont get me wrong but i dont think people are doin it for power i think its more for the number "454".and alot of people claim they have a 454 small block but you cant tell over a video.(if you get what im sayin) and its hard to tell but that dosent look like a aluminum intake to me.
Not just a bored and stroked 400 SBC but you also need a tall deck block for clearance and that will require a special intake and a lot of other special items. I think the biggest you can go with a production 400 block is 434 but it requires much grinding and IMHO will weaken the block. You really need to start with an aftermarket block when you start building large cube small blocks. or all that expensive machine work will be for nothing. In the planning stages of a 434 SBC right now.
Summit and Jegs both sell a small block 454 crate motor by World Products. World also has a website with the smallblock 454 on it. It was always my dream engine until the Pat Musi 555 big block came out.

does anyone here actuly know why people use small blocks no big blocks an what the differance between a Chevy 305,350 and 400? if you say the bore wrong, if you say that they heads are diffrent wrong you can name anything you want but hate to tell you the only diffrences are 2 things cam and crank everything else is exactly the same hints to why you can change all parts from one motor to the other an a small block is used more due to it picks up quicker.

this is a bad motor dont get me wrong but i dont think people are doin it for power i think its more for the number "454".and alot of people claim they have a 454 small block but you cant tell over a video.(if you get what im sayin) and its hard to tell but that dosent look like a aluminum intake to me.

Not just a bored and stroked 400 SBC but you also need a tall deck block for clearance and that will require a special intake and a lot of other special items. I think the biggest you can go with a production 400 block is 434 but it requires much grinding and IMHO will weaken the block. You really need to start with an aftermarket block when you start building large cube small blocks. or all that expensive machine work will be for nothing. In the planning stages of a 434 SBC right now.

Summit and Jegs both sell a small block 454 crate motor by World Products. World also has a website with the smallblock 454 on it. It was always my dream engine until the Pat Musi 555 big block came out.
