no order, hendrix srv rory. Best. others have gotten close but these guys kill all competition. they did not care abut speed or trying to impress, they just played with heart and soul. The way its supposed to be. Clapton almost got there and Mayer showed promise but these guys are cemented as the best.
Jimi Hendrix was cited in a 1969 interview shortly after Woodstock: Interviewer: "So Jimi, what's it like to be the best guitarist in the world?" Jimi: "I don't know, ask Rory Gallagher".[37][38] from Wikipedia Rory Gallagher page
That battered old Stratocaster must have a story or two to tell. I saw him in 1969 and the power went off, but he just palyed on without amplification. Magnificent!
What a shame he's gone. Bumped into the bass player (Ritch Mc Cracken) in Carnaby Street shorly after the end of Taste.
Rory was and still is the greatest guitarist ever, and not just because he was such a great player. the most honest and true player you will ever hear.does anybody know where i can get this on dvd or cd.? the quality is amazing.i have the two taste studio and two live recordings on cd .but where can i find this i have found his solo beat club but not with the taste. this is awesome beyond words!!!
Jimi Hendrix was amazed at Rory's guitar playing when they played on the same bill at the Isle ot Wight. The story goes that JH was asked what it was like to be the best in the world and he said "better ask Rory Gallagher".
so RG has a Rangemaster sitting on top of the AC30, right ?...some kind of pedal action going on methinks in the heavy sections...just backing off the guitar volume will get the cleanup if a Rangemaster, as we all know.
Amazing Quality !!!!!!!!!!! 11 out 10 for this ! Fantastic ! With Richard Mc Cracken and John Wilson ... Such a shame it never lasted longer than it did.
A great rock guitarist is nothing without a great rhytm section. Maybe sometime in the future ppl will understand that. Remembering Cream, The Experience and Taste - thx for the music.
rocker53zero,you know I just realized when you were 17 you really resembled Rory a lot! Love this man and everything he did, what a loss of great talent the day we lost him. Thanks for sending this my way ♥
@rocker53zero he used to play here in belfast,in liverpool club on the woodvale, most sunday afternoons, remember Eric Bell coming along one sunday, but a great guirtarist Jim Armstong always stole the show
@1690k Big Jim Armstrong had a severe stroke a couple of years ago. The last I heard of him was that he is now living in Las Vegas, but don't know if there's any truth in that story.
@rocker53zero Thanks for your reply, yes he does live in Las Vegas,he took the time to reply to an email i sent him, talking about the old days, glad to report he said he might lift the old axe again soon,if any one has any footage of him with light or sk-boo or even on his own would love to see it posted, the last time i saw him he was playing a bluesy jass set,but he was saying the singer was murdered in londonderry, but as i said he is alive and well, what a great guirtarist he was.
@1690k I've got lots of C90 tapes of Sk'Boo and even some of Spike and Bronko. The guitarist, vocalist you were referring to was Jimmy Gilchrist, who was dragged off his bicycle on the way home from a motorcycle club meeting by scum from the Bogside. They stole his wallet and credit cars and dumped him in the Foyle while he was unconcious, where he drowned.... If you google (Jim Gilchrist murder) you will be able to read about what happened to him.
@rocker53zero Your are 100% correct in what you said, how it happened and by whom,Jim did name {Jimmy Gilchrist} by name and a brief detail of his murder in his email, glad to have spoken to someone who knows their stuff, all the best
