I'm so gald I came across this song. The next time someone wants me to a piano challenge, I'll tell them to look up this song, the challenger is DEFEATED!
Since this was posted, I've worked 24/7 to learn this inspiring work. The lyrical content is 2nd to none and I feel I connect with the composer's psyche. The only problem I had was that upper bass clef - the one that doesn't do much. But I sorted it. They don't call me 'Clever Dick' for nothing.
@Joshlama Actually, I synced up every note correctly (for the most part) in the song. Even though it was MIDI - most notes are correct (ignoring the fact that my piano is two octaves short haha)
The ending was probably first made when Hamelin was playing it himself on a piano, and as he was approaching a big finish ending like he had in his mind, the piano just broke. He decided to use that instead.
oh man.... that, is just pure INSANITY through the medium of music. how did he actually have that stuff going on in his head?!?!?!?!!!!! maybe he's sane and we're all mental
I'm kinda listening to some of the hardest pieces to play on the piano and, there's a lot of things the pieces do that he does to a much grander level in this piece.
@fakericky I had a nightmare about me being chased by an undead Nazi circus while this song played throughout the whole dream. It was a lot scarier than you think.
I think it might be possible for two pianos and four pianists - or if not, then maybe three pianos and six pianists! (but the pianists have to be VERY VERY good!!!)
It is actually very craftily composed. I particularly like the inner voicing coming out of the dense texture, as well as the Ligeti-like chromatic clusters of sound.
I love how he has used the main theme, and has worked on it, while still making this really good 'ragtime' feel ( but contemporary) piece. for example: theme " 0:09 to :27 " and my favourite idea " 3:25 to 3:41 "
Also how you think it's going to be ragtime @ the beginning, then it goes crazy.
Oh, one other thing-I actually have a live recording of this piece being performed actually pretty recently. Chuck Norris was the pianist, as I recall XD
LOVE the awesome sound effects using uberfast notes starting at 3:26 when the main theme comes back again! what a comic relief break from the intense classical music!
If you watch the whole thing, you break on through the other side, there's no going back either, your insane. No jokes this is revolutionary composing, Liszt would've probably imploded hearing this. Lol
Hahah, I knew this piece but I didn't know it was composed by Hamelin, I though Hamelin was playing it and I was like wtf I know he's a supervirtuoso but.....
The entire piece is avalable on the web as midi files. One of the cool things with finale notepad is that it will transcribe midi's to a .MUS (finale) format and you get what you see here.
The midi that I've used here I can't find any more.
Then perhaps you could write what you mean and mean what you write. It is the responsibility of the writer to clearly express him/herself. Don't blame the audience for your lack of writing skills, dumb ass.
I've got a better idea. Stay the fuck off you tube and don't bother us with your ingnorance. Clearly, Hamelin's music is too complexe for your simple little pea brain.
I doubt so. The score is pretty straightforward if you look at it (I have the first half of his manuscript) - and it's dedicated to Jurgen Hocker, who is one of the best pianola guys around. Gyorgy Ligeti easily surpasses this.
