and those folks in Khmt (Egypt) who invented the tools to begin with.. those massive structures they built, the international trading that occured, and peacefully at that, the taxing policies, efficient systems of record-keeping, chemical compounds they created for a multitude of usage surely had to depend on an almost supreme mastery of math... but i like Riemann!!
Thanks for all the views and rates guys! To address some of the complaints, I do realize that this list is far from complete. These were just some of my own personal favorite mathematicians; and not to mention, I made this video a long time ago, like five years ago. I would not like to make the impression that I 'forgot' such math legends such as Gauss, Euclid, Fourier, Galois, Lobachevsky, Tao, Pythagoras and the like. The ones listed were simply those that had truly fascinated me at the time.
You have my thumb up for Ramanujan! Most of people never heard of this great genius and is very rare to heard about him, if you are not much intrestet in mathematics :)
Talking about Newton in math is as talking of Einstein in physics. Promoted by media. Masses who have no idea about math or physics, were captured without knowing why! Few in math: Leibniz, Euler, Gauss, Godel, Fourier, Lapalace, Descartes, EUKLIDES, PYTAGORA (EVERYTHING IS BASED ON HIM!!!!), Lobachevski, Chebishev, Galois...float far beyond Newton.
Heizenberg, Plank, Bohr, Maxwel, Lorenz, De PAULI and singularity in human achievements, Nikola Tesla, are beyond Einstein-COMPILATOR..
i'm not a mathmatician myself but my favorite calc professor said there are great mathmaticians known for contributing to individual branches of mathematics but Gauss is the only one that made significant contributions to every branch of mathematics. i could tell he was speaking hyperbolistically but am still assuming that means gauss made a whole lot of contributions and thus considered one of the greatest mathmaticians.
they r all great, ya i think cauchy would be a good figure 2 put in, gauss, riemann, euler n cauchy, they r all my idols. their spirits made me create my own theorems n my own principles.
Great videos and channel. If anyone wants to obtain computer, electronics or books in support of a good cause, see my channel for treasure trove home page. Thanks.
@sourmanofcoal.You are so correct, many would only particate in discussion of education and not get involved in 'Practical Problem Solving',not even in the basic stages.
'Personally', I think Gauss was the greatest mathematician who has ever lived. And he had some outstanding students like Eisenstein, Riemann, Dirichlet, Dedekind and Kummer. But none them mentioned! Hilbert was great also.
Ramunujan - never heard of him. I missed Cantor, Gödel, Poincaré, Gauss, Moiver, Galois, Hilbert and others. Anyway, thanks for Riemann and Euler. :-)
Do you remeber this one from the last channel I had? . Thought it was lost until I clicked on my Videos folder. I am contemplating on creating another one for the sole purpose that I forgot so many others. Thanks for the suggestion :).

Newton was both one of the best mathematiscians as well as one of the best phycisists, is there someone else with this achievement?

Many of those people are genuine mathematicians, but many of these mathematicians we have today are having problems with basic mathematics.

@mathesssful Todays education doesn't reward creativity, it rewards parrot behavior.

Yeah, out of the many I could have throught of, Gauss came to mind instantly. Not surprised other commenters feel the same.
