  • Is it possible to set up a wireless AND wired internet connection ? I got a wireless router for my gaming consoles, laptop, and iPod touch which all can connect wireless but now my desktop pc which is connected to a wire cable can't connect. How can I get both to work ?

  • pfSense is the best, monowall second. What geek does not put together his own router?

  • is it hard to add a gigabit ethernet connector to a computer because right now it doesnt have it all it has is a normal internet slot and is there a real big diffrence if i did i would say my internet speed is like 1mbps ya i know sucks

  • fuck u

  • fiberwire = my thing

  • just use wired at home and wireless for traveling

  • u can only do one thing with wired like 1 computer when i played ps3 with wired no one can use the computer when i play now i can use my ipod ps3 and computer at the same time and i have 2 routers lol but the other one i dont use cuz i have at&t wireless internet

  • wireless is the future

  • The only way wireless is going to get better then wired is if they stop making wired lol (that is what is happening anyway). Nothing beats wired stuff.

  • wireless owns!

  • wired ftws but how do i set y pc to use wired and not connect in wireless?

  • Fuck wireless! I've had too many bad experiences with them like dropped connections and very bad lag, last time I used a wireless network I always ended up with a horrible connection to xbox live on my xbox 360 console now I'm using a pure ethernet network, when me and my brother play online the only time we ever get lag is when someone else as a shitty connection

go with fast or gigabit ethernet, and make sure you're using good quality cables like cat5e or cat6, then you wont be disappointed

  • Fuck wireless get hardwire

  • The speed lost through wireless and wired is still pretty significant. Even the newest wireless adapters out today can't compete with wired speed. I get 14 - 15 mbps on a wired. On wireless, I get 6 - 8 mbps. Not only are you loosing speed through wireless, but also the router you are using to get wireless. Even using a router with a wired connection can loose a little bit of speed, but not that much. It's usually not even noticeable but can be.

  • I have been gaming on WIRED for pretty much all my life and I don't plan on going to wireless anytime soon. Its already been said, Wired is faster... SOLID CONSISTENT connection... wireless has to many environmental factors going against it. Even on a 5 bar connection it still is prone to inconsistencies. Lag in gaming is common place and file transfer speeds between wireless networks is CONSIDERABLY slower then wired not to mention all the security related problems associated with wireless.

  • i agree, my wireless was working for a little bit and then it started to say limited or local connectivity. So for spending countless hours on trying to fix it i just decided to go for the long ethernet cable and bam!! Lightning fast and connects a lot faster!

  • If you plan on using wireless for streaming videos to your playstation 3 then be prepared for some slow loading and somewhat lag. When i was on wireless on my ps3 streaming videos from tversity on my pc to my ps3 the videos skipped. When i copied videos from tversity to my ps3 wireless, it took about 3 times longer to copy to my ps3 rather it being wired. Wired will be faster. Also for me, it seems web pages load faster on wired. Using the ps3 web browser.

  • thats why im running a 15m ethernet cable under the house from my router to my ps3 :D

  • KLA551K, ya when I am on Wireless connection with my PS3 it is so slow. But, once I go wired it is alot faster. Not as many droped signals.

  • with wired you have less lag in internet games than with wireless

  • I love idea, now that I work off of wireless n I have up to around 1000 feet of range, wired is great, I like wired, but not as much as wireless, mainly because of buggy RJ45 cables.

  • I just bought a Cat6 Ethernet cable a few days ago and just got it today. When I had my wireless usb network adapter, my downloads speed were at 3.5megs. When I hooked up my Ethernet cable, my speeds were up to 11 megs download speed.

  • Personally, I did use wireless for 2+ years and did enjoy, it is really convenient, except for the occasional problems of the adapter overheating, slow downloads, and internet timeouts. Long Ethernet cables may be a hassle, but I personally prefer them now and think its a good way to go.

  • I have ab A/B/G built in transceiver in my laptop. How readily findable is 802.11n these days? Common yet. IMHO, I think it's still really relatively new. People still seem to be catching up with G. Some still appear to just be at the lowest 802.11 at 11Mbps as opposed to the 54.

Yeah, sniffers. That's why I use wired when at my desk. Unplug and turn on the wireless when I move about. Also, I turn off the SSID broadcast and keep the broadcast signal strength to a minimum and use WEP encryption.

  • You said out and about. Is there a way to have my laptop disabled if it's stolen? I have police tracking built in but not the disabling part.
